          ⋮ Why the fuck was he laughing so much? It was a PERFECTLY reasonable idea. Espa was normally so agreeable, too. “No! I swear! I read it in a book–” Which he had conveniently forgotten the name of, which was just typical. The brunet folded his arm with an agrivated huff. Great, just fucking great “Quit yer laughin’, sorry I asked okay? I jus’ thought it’d be kinda neat, y'know?”

His laughter died down to more of an amused snort, "Alright, alright - I'm sorry. But, it was just so funny. Were you really being serious? What did you think was going to happen? This isn't Jurassic Park, you know." As much as Ryuzaki believed it was.

          ⋮ “Eugh, when’re you not busy, yer like a full-time single mom.” God fucking dammit Espa, spend some time with your friends for once. Why does your entire life revolve around something other than Ryuzaki’s happiness? So selfish! “Okay, since I got yer undivided attention–” There was a pause as he pulled a folded piece of paper from the back pocket of his pants. He mananged to smooth it out enough to make the chicken scratch he called handwriting legible enough to read. “So anyways, I was readin’, yeah? ‘Nd there’s this bit where the main dude does a bunch of weird science shit – I kinda just skimmed over that bit – and suddenly there’s a bunch of really tiny l'il dinosaurs…Eeh? Eeehh?”

The mint-haired teen laughed openly, usually he would humor his friend but this time... it was taking things too far. "Sounds like the plot to the second spy kids movie, are you sure you were even reading?" What did Ryuzaki want? Tiny pet dinosaurs? How was he going to do that if he didn't even 'read' how the guy did it? How did he expect Espa to help him out? "Look, I'm got some plasticine in the toy box, you can use that and go nuts if you want. Otherwise I don't think you've got the uh-- equiptment to make real life tiny dinosaurs." Seriously, though? What was he thinking?

          ⋮ “Now listen here, I am too a big reader.” Mostly lies. Sure, it wasn’t often and the books rarely had actual paragraphs, but he had been known to read the occasional novel but the internet was down. “Now’re you gonna hear me out or are ya sit there ‘nd question my abilities?”

"I wasn't doubting you or anything, don't panic." The corner of his mouth tugged upwards, forming an entertained smirk of sorts. The brunet sure did get riled up easily, it was always fun to see how quickly he could get him to raise his voice. (spoiler: it wasn't long) "I'll hear you out, but it better be something good. There's some things I need to do today and I can't really afford to waste time."

“Soup? S'no pizza, but I guess it’ll do.” He grunted and jumped down from his spot on the counter-top, if he got some of his cleaning down now he might be able to sneak out a little earlier. “Soup’s fine, but I’m probably gonna be goin’ through the cupboards for snacks later.” Anyone who could become full on soup alone was too powerful and obviously no match for Ryuzaki’s appetite. Eating until he couldn’t move was easily one of his favorite pastimes, Espa would just have to deal with it like he usually did.

Espa pinched the bridge of his nose in agitation, "I swear you're always thinking about junk food, the soup will be good for you!" He made a mental note to keep a close eye on the other boy after dinner just to make sure he didn't eat them out of house and home, it was another couple of days until pay day and he couldn't afford to run out of the basics. Espa was going to just deal with it, if he had to start shouting he would. "Stay away from the rest of my food or I'm changing the locks and you're not allowed over anymore."

“Ah quit frettin’, ya know I didn’ mean it like that.” Ryuzaki actually kind of admired how Espa handled being the older brother, he didn’t have a clue how he managed to fit everything in but somehow his time keeping was better than his. Left to his won devices the brunet slept in until gone noon and couldn’t even be bothered to boil water for instant ramen. It didn’t taste bad raw, but it certainly wasn’t easier to eat. Ryuzaki was hot mess. “Depends what yer havin’, m'only really good at cuttin’ up veggies, s'long as ya don’t mind ‘em lookin’ at bit er … rustic.”

A hot mess indeed. Espa narrowed his eyes, he wasn't sure how exactly he should be interpretting some of the things Ryuzaki said. "You're in luck because I haven't decided what I'm making yet but I know we're got some vegetables that need using up soon, so maybe a soup or something." He wasn't feeling very adventurous, so the easier the meal the better, then he was somewhat free to put his feet up and relax.

“Professional asshole, tha’s me! Y'know I ain’t got time fer people who aren’t gonna be nice t'the merchandise. Yer jus’ chattin’, ‘nd yer my friend, so m'not kickin’ ya out yet.” Those poor, poor parakeets, left traumatised after some hauty old lady. Ryuzaki wouldn’t stand for that. He twiddled a piece of hair between his fingers, “You wanna go someplace when I got off here? Or you gotta be at home so you can play housewife again?”

"I really wish you wouldn't call it that, I'm the eldest, it's my job. Not that I'd expect you to understand, you're an only child who can barely take care of himself." Espa admonished. He did his duties as a big brother, it was just unfortunate that those duties also included cooking, cleaning and grocery shopping. It was a lot of work but if he didn't do it then who else would? Someone had to look after his brothers. "As it so happens, I have to drop off these--" he gestured to the bags that had been abandoned on the floor, "--and then I've got to make something for dinner, the sitter is dropping everyone off at seven. If you help prepare it then you're welcome to stop and eat something." It just won't be for free this time. Ryuzaki would be expected to at least help with the dishes afterwards.

“Why’re ya hittin’ me, it was an innocent question…” Anyone who didn’t expect him to try scrounging for free food was a fool, it wasn’t like he need to watch his spending either. Working a dead-end job for shitty pay didn’t exactly buy delicious snack food either. “Hey, if ya ain’t spendin’ money in here then ya ain’t gettin’ free directions… besides, she made the door bang ‘nd it frightened the parakeets.” He shrugged, kicking the heels of his shoes again the board of the counter, “Probably, she looked like she was in a rush.” Jokes on her!

"Innocent maybe, but I've given you the same answer before so you should know better by now that to ask me for food." Honestly, it was like talking to a child. Which Espa had mastered, should anyone dare to question it. He knew the brunet meant well and was likely only joking but it was hard to find humor is something so repetitive, he was too tired. "I hadn't planned on spending money in here, are you going to kick me out?" Espa grinned, "You're a professional asshole."

“Ya came all the way here ‘nd didn’ bring me anythin’ to eat?” He hadn’t eaten since breakfast and there weren’t any snacks in the stock room unless he felt like digging into to a box of dog biscuits. “What kinda friend are you…” He hopped onto the counter and made himself comfortable, legs swinging. “It’s been…” a pause, “Really quiet, some woman came in just after I opened 'nd asked if I knew were she could get a decent coffee… sent her to the fish market 'cause I’m an asshole.”

Espa slapped the back of his hand against Ryuzaki's arm "How many times do I have to tell you that I'm on a budget?" There wasn't a lot of room for splashing out of snack foods and it was annoying when the grocery sends him half-off coupons for snacks he didn't actually eat. Ryuzaki was a bad influence on his coupon-recieving privileges. "She came all the way down here to ask you about coffee? Were you the only one open...?"

Musty old rabbit feed, huh? Looks like he’s been slacking on the cleaning again, there’s a suprise. “Over here,” he replied, chin in palm as he sat because the cash register, the picture of boredom. He’d only had two customers since he opened and the rest of the day had been spent getting into arguements with the birds and calling the hamsters fat. Time well spent, obviously. He eyed the bags Espa was carrying, “What’d ya bring me?”

"I didn't bring you anything," Espa scowled, walking over to the counter and dumping his bags on the floor, "Unless you're in the mood for soap and toilet cleaner," But there was a chance that even Ryuzaki wasn't desperate enough to go for that. At least, Espa hoped that the brunet didn't try an eat his precious cleaning supplies. "How's your shift been?"

He sighed and pocketed his phone, if Ryuzaki wasn't asking for snack foods he was taking a nap. The boy sure did live a fulfilling life. It didn't take long for Espa to navigate his way from the grocery store to the little pet store where Ryuzaki worked, bags of things that the brunet wouldn't be allowed to eat. "Where are you hiding?" he called as he pushed open the door, nice to know the place still smelt like musty old rabbit feed.
