They found themselves given the most peculiar of tasks as a trainee Auror and upon occasion, they questioned whether they were having practical jokes played upon them, or if the Aurors of the Department were simply bonkers. The box Jacq had been given had been heavy, but it hadn’t rattled and they had been instructed not to look inside as they transport it from a particularly gruesome looking crime scene on the outskirts of London, to the Ministry of Magic on the other side of the city, and make their way down to the Department of Mysteries with it. There, an Unspeakable would take it from them… they hoped.
Jacq hadn’t apparated, unsure whether they could with whatever was in the box, but after almost an hour, their curiosity had gotten the better of them. They had pried open the lid and peeked. So wrapped up in the startling contents of the box, eyes widening and feet still very much moving, they almost slammed straight into another person and gasped, jumping backwards to put space between them. “I’m so sorry, I-” they glanced down, noticing that the box lid had flown off completely and the contents was visible to all, “er, my friend here distracted me”.
.
Oh boy – what a sight. It was lucky she stepped back just in time, but Jacq’s jump did a better job of that; Agnes placed her hand over her heart for a moment, but whether that was out of relief, or just for the drama was debatable. But she removed it a beat later as she sought out the missing lid, and summoned it silently to her waiting hand before settling it – with a laugh – back on the box for the Bell. “And does our friend have a name?” she asked, though she wasn’t entirely sure she’d be given an answer. It was nice to aim high, though, and Agnes was (after all) a very nosy thing. And wouldn’t it be a treat if she could learn about something she wasn’t supposed to before lunch?
“You’re fine, I’m fine, don’t worry about it,” she assured Jacq, pulling on a much brighter smile, as if there hadn’t just been a skull sighting out on the streets. “Where are you lugging him, anyways?” If she remembered correctly Jacq was in the Auror program – and Agnes herself had business in that department to see to that day. “Are you heading back to the Ministry? Want some company?”
