Summary: Alastor had gotten too close to the Hotel Ensemble for his own liking, especially after what he did on the roof with Adam, so he's calling in a favor. What's a favor between... colleagues?

If Alastor didn't know any better he'd think that Hell was turning on him, laughing or smirking at him, as he finds you outright staring through him instead of agreeing with a minor fuss. Alright, if you did have a problem he usually smoothed it over in the ways he knows how to, but this doesn't seem like one of those times. You're not mad or turning your nose up, you're just... staring at him.
He finds it best to explain his plight again to you. This time, without the flattering and posturing of getting in close, he keeps the pitch clean, “I need you to help me with—”
You stop him because, oh no, you heard him well and good already. You just need a moment to weigh your options and to properly think about his request—but first to have time to process this to begin with, and you know his style of pitch.
Loud, flamboyant, and/or in-your-face was always his style if he could, and sweet, charming, and/or peaking Southern charm is when he wants something personal. You're not letting that sway you with whatever it is he wanted to portray himself as, his words spoke louder then his actions in moments like this.
“So, you just need a moment. Sweetheart, take your time!” He sounds so assured and fiddles with his cane, almost like the answer was already obvious. “The poor Hotel can wait long enough for you—our dear Niffty and Husker are just waiting oh so patiently too.”
Ah, Niffty and Husk as a way to tempt your hand again.
You know he wouldn't stoop to attempts trying to appeal to your humanity like Vox had tried once upon a time, even if you've mourned your allies in your own way.
To appeal to emotions from Overlord to Overlord is like sifting through a puzzle handed to you by the one getting propositioned. The trespasser must play the chords and tunes of the home they enter, especially asking for help. Alastor had played your game and here he was with his little requests and tasks.
It's good that you didn't have your preferred drink of choice or you might have had to neglect it, especially soon after your decision came to mind.
You reject his request for help.
Denial was, indeed, quite a drug it seems. Alastor hadn't taken your refusal without a small laugh and a quick, “Oh, silly, if you wanted to bargain you should have asked!”
But you weren't joking and you didn't want to barter on terms, this job was just too far out of your usual wheelhouse and you honestly have no idea why. Why you? Why for this sort of task, one that Alastor had obviously been able to do once upon a time himself, would you even agree?
You can deny him however you wish but he will always get more verbose and irritable as he tried to implore you to take this task. It wouldn't be the first task you've done for him as a colleague, and sure this will be your first as a previously estranged colleague, but that's just him and you!
He trusts your professionalism and surely that's enough? Your little servants won't be [grievously] harmed and it'll get you in favor with the Princess, or at least her strange family, if that helps sweeten the deal.
That doesn't. And Alastor can already tell before the words even finish coming out of his mouth.
You notice this task is particularly important to him and he noticed that he laid this on more thick then he was supposed to, but only you can help him at this point. If you didn't know any better you'd think he was handing over responsibilities to run off again and possibly burn bridges—it wouldn't be the first time.
Why can't he get Rosie to help? The Overlords meeting showed that she knew he was active again, and even supplied Cannibals to help the Hotel from the news you heard.
“Why, you can't ask too much of the Cannibals or they'll think you using them is quite old news! They've already lost quite enough, and gained what they wanted. That deal has expired.” It sounds plausible, if a bit convenient. You saw the memorial statues.
You can't think of many reasons why not you, and that's equal parts fair to Alastor. Having anyone you're on good terms with is hard to manage in Hell—just ask Vox about the inner circles of the Vees.
Or don't. Why lose a good spy for some gossip? While you wouldn't exactly be harmed for having a spy in V-Tower, your agent might die though if their network had personalized gossip meant to entrap. That spy was a good ol' sport and has been around with you since Husk's Overlord days.
That's probably one reason Alastor likes your work. Professional. Maybe messy, maybe elegant, maybe a flare of humanity in your mundane. He saw something. He wanted it.
You both share a look.
His eyes are narrowed even with his smile as ridged as steel and edges sharp as knives.
“Alastor. My no, stays a no.”
His smile tightens and it's surely the answer he knew was coming. He doesn't seem surprised. He leaves a pause for you to almost rethink. His smile softens as his mask goes back up. “Ah, worth a shot! I hope this doesn't spoil your mood because I did come here to get away from the mundane life! How does lunch sound?”
You keep your lips tight, but end up smiling nonetheless. A united front for the stage of the public, especially with those cameras everywhere because of the influence of Vox. This outing will be over all the headlines no doubt, overshadowed by the Hotel gaining more of a... horrid reputation.

Summary: It's Sinsmas after all that has happened to the Hotel and helping Charlie rebuild is the least you both can do, especially since Sinsmas is coming up and if this Hotel isn't finished, Lucifer will break down. His daughter, at a motel for her human holidays, cleaning debris? Absolutely not! So, when he finishes up his end of the deal, why does that accomplishment feel... like it never mattered?

You've got the help of the King of Hell, there was no way anything can be hard when you give him the task of completing anything. Set the floor plan anew with even, sturdy flooring and nails the size of fingers keeping them secured? Done before the spider demon can help with the walls. Getting those windows and having them set within their frame, he can do half of them in the time of—what ? He should probably leave some things to the staff? Hm... that's fair, Charlie trusts these people and on a smaller note Lucifer can see their genuine care to help. So, he can step back after he's done with the foyer.
He won't admit his height had almost made him miss the malignant of the wallpaper where the second floor meets the railings and the 90° angle of the—nevermind, forget it. He got it done, so no-problemo!
Setting himself down upon the ground, his shoes give a gracefully padded thud! as his wings fold inwards to tuck beneath the skin. The outfit he wore? Simply not broken or anything out of place, he says this to himself as he sees you sitting alone in his technically finished foyer. He would be startled if he already didn't notice the lone seating arrangement that Husk had pushed in earlier, alone yet salvaged from the prior wreckage.
He pulls at his collar as the sounds of construction grow louder in the sudden silence, his wings and the wind no longer filling his ears with noise. Making his way over, he sits far enough away from you to be respectful but... well, close enough he feels it wouldn't be too offensive.
Anything you can talk about will be difficult to bring up, no doubt. The ease of a temporary bubble from where Charlie assigned Lucifer to at least make sure the interior could handle a second floor. Of course, he's got that! He can do 'physical' labor well. But he's not exactly doing any 'emotional' labor besides worrying his staffs golden luster between his hands.
Finally, when he decides that enough is enough and hovering will do him no good, it's best to start talking now. He will greet you officially and it's soft compared to how he'd put on a show for Charlie, "Hey... I don't know what you're thinking, but I'm here if you need me."
Whether you're angry and could snap at him for something he (or another) has done, sad over something he cannot tell, or just your ruminating on something: he can and will listen with a good ear! Well, he can try as he's still working on this between you two after his hiding much less him and Charlie... but he is trying!
It's when you mention the encroaching date and human holidays that the people love celebrating that he grits his teeth. Oh. Human holidays mean a lot to Charlie and quite a few Sinners—if he remembers some old traditions correctly—and he guesses that it would mean a lot to the residents of the Hotel. Sinners, y'know?
The passage of time had slipped by him yet again, and for that he'll apologize. But it's not something he can really fix being as old as he is and how finite time is. If you'll have him, as your partner, he would be willing to scoot right up next to you and take your hand in his.
And while you two are talking, it also comes to light this will be another holiday in 7 years you'll have spent alone. Charlie has her friends and her patrons to fill her life with purpose, especially on a day where you indulge sin she'll have to ward off with familiarity—you even mention she has plans to do something more humanly traditional, Christmas. But still, this will be the first year you and he will have spent time together in 7 years...
If he wasn't already so soured and ready to set things straight, he'd have teared up and just sat there with you...
"I understand your situation and I hear you." He acknowledges how you feel first, before taking the longest and unsure sigh that could rattle his frame. "I understand how hard it's been for you to stay with us, me, these past few years and we've been less than absent to you."
"Near nonexistent, except when I'd come to visit." You agreed with him. He can't disagree with you.
"And I deeply apologize, time just flows on and when Lilith took Charlie with her during our..." He felt the air pass through his teeth in a hiss. He's not angry, he's not. But everything was just too much. "I just lost sight of myself and all we held dear."
We. He and Lilith had cherished and longed for many things in their long lives, and very few they couldn't obtain together. Their peace and stability were often shaken by Sinners or Hell's natural instability within the lower ranks, but it was nothing they couldn't charm and smooth over. Even the other Sins had been acquaintances, friends, they were much closer to than they are now and something to cherish. But then came you in all your glory during Charlie's childhood and they should have been fulfilled by then—not that they weren't ?! A beautiful and loving wife, a charming and joyful Charlie, and yet they both took side long glances at someone who they could not have. Never did their eyes stray from one another, but when they did look away to look back, Lucifer could remember that confident smile on Lilith's face.
And he distinctly remembers her calling the look he gave her 'lecherous'. After his slightly mortified reaction, she laughed and actually called it rather charming.
"We'll be celebrating without Lilith again, and you if you don't want to... stay." The words coming from your mouth are saddening, but no less the truth. What has he done to prove you wrong in the last 7 years?
"Do you want me to stay?" Lucifer asks and if he didn't have your hand in his before now, he reaches to do so now. "With you?"
He wasn't talking about Sinsmas. That much was obvious.
Your talk wasn't long from being interrupted and it was a sign of the Sinners patience towards interruption or sin. Although that wasn't long after you agreed, it still had his features sharpening in agitation. He hears a loud shatter from somewhere in the hollow of the Hotel and his sharp teeth, dilated eyes, and a small hissing noise you were unsure about. Maybe a snake hiss, maybe the hiss of smoke from his upset.
These chandeliers were from his castle, he admits. Oof. Tough luck.
But, enough about talking. Even as he gives you a gentle smile and a wave before he's off to another floor, the relationship you and he have is now steady enough the weight seems to leave his shoulders.
He still has a lot of work to do, but maybe some time fixing the Hotel as a medium for spending time together, that'll do for a bit!
But even when it was completed and Alastor had shown himself to the crew, Lucifer gritted his teeth at that, it was soon after that he found decorations had adorned the walls and a tree had been erected in the foyer.
If you're not sure he'd remember the date and perhaps even lock himself away, you'd be pleasantly surprised he had ducks on every railing with something slightly festive about them. A little tree hat, a green or red duck, or one with an elf hat. Some with tiny devil horns. Some with vaguely red hats. Some with elf ears.
Alastor, Vaggi, and quite a number of staff and residents looked between frustrated and annoyed as the ducks seemed to appear everywhere, even the tree. Lucifer came next, looking as Prideful as ever and showing you another one he wanted to use as a tree topper.
Definitely is the guy who wakes up Christmas/Sinsmas day and changes from his pajamas into another set of lounge wear. While he is wearing white skinny trousers and tasteful loafers, he's wearing an ugly couples sweater that he's grinning at you from.
From the box he got his shirt from had came two other ones that looked identical to his. The one is your size is quite obvious and his expression tells you all...

Summary: While it's truly no one's business what happens to their relationship, it's quite a sight to see them fighting (like in Season 2), let's look into that relationship with some brainworms of mine!

Notes: We're exploring the girls, AHHHHHH— Also, serious self-worth issues left (Vaggi worshipping Charlie, more the herself) and vague marriage floating (no one is lead on, I Just Like It,,,). Information up to Season 2's Finale is at play here.
Having all that happened on their minds — should it be Adam's killing slaughter or Vox's war on Heaven — it was about time for the girls to get some time to themselves. With how much pride Charlie takes in her Hotel and her friends, whether they're taking a month to rebuild the Hotel or thriving with foot traffic from the Sir Pentious reveal of Redemption working; Charlie would take even more pride in her relationship.
Vaggie, in Season One, was a great budding manager and assistant to the Hotels other staff ( ALASTOR ) so her work in Season Two cannot be denied any longer. The badge that seals her position in the Hotel, her new name included as 'Vaggi' across it's silver surface, is just the beginning of their changes over time. The talk in the blanket fort — circus tent? — was just the beginning but also, sometimes, it can just wait for tomorrow.
"It can wait for tomorrow." Something new, something soft. Emotions run high and anger begets resentment if you let it fester, but anger also burns and will consume all in-front of it. Sadly, there is no win-win with anger but sometimes you just have to leave it instead of putting yourself in danger for it. While we saw Charlie's anger persisting much hotter and brighter than Vaggi's, it's also not good to yell at your partner. "Let's go to bed/do our tasks/talk later." If you love someone, be willing to talk calmly.
A team front is always stronger than broadcasting your weakness, Vaggi knew that much from being in Heaven's Army, but it's not always that easy. She tried to protect Charlie from the truth of the situation and her weaknesses but that was unhealthy and a detriment to the Hotel. To Charlie, even. If Vox can get under her skin and use her poor media training against her, it's only a matter of time before something else takes hold. Media training is just one facet of this ever-changing world... maybe it's time to be more vigilant.
Charlie also will have to be more open to criticism and trust Vaggi more, also acquiesce that she might not know how to handle something. Her mother may have been a human but that doesn't mean she can handle the Sinners as well as her mother, and her father's views on Sinners as a whole don't help. Listening to Vaggi more, she can temper her expectations and realize not everything is as honest and straightforward with humans.
On that note, still the best power couple this side of the Pentagram — going strong baby! But that is hard work and communication, of course. You take the good with the bad, and since the bad has passed for now...
Imagine Chaggi as the couple who doesn't follow trends but definitely can make them — leaning more towards Season Two, as they were nobodies doing a 'nothing' job to the denizens of hell in Season One. They're no Velvette but you can bet after all that happened that people would be paying attention to the Princess and her Hotel, and all eyes are on them. Of course, since they can't exactly work without their uniforms it's not too outlandish to not notice all the red suits and red formal-casual clothes. But they did it!
All that red with more red... oh boy.
Definitely, when they have off-hours it's on for fashion. Vaggi's nighty and her dress in the 'dance' sequence does make me think she'll wear the prettiest corset dresses and Charlie would wear the prettiest maxi dresses — BUT! I raise you this:
Vaggie in a white satin poet blouse with a dark pair of knickerbockers, with those sporting straps, with heavy boots. The flowy nature of the outfit is both elegant and the wide pants give a great support for her hip and leg movement, easy to go on a hike with Charlie but also able to jog or do something recreational with her. Vaggi would definitely rock a braid too, if she wants to give up the silhouette and if she knows it'll be... difficult. Bloody, she means.
Charlie with a white suit button-up with a pinstripe grey under-vest, with a black waistcoat and black trousers. Could have loafers if she stays inside/casual or leather Italian dress-shoes if she's taking Vaggi out. I can see her being the type for wine-and-dine but Charlie also has the capacity for mini-golf or a boardwalk date. A little bit of her mother and a little bit of her father there, but uniquely Charlie.
Never let anyone take their whimsy from them. While Vaggi can read what mood Charlie is in quite well, Charlie can access the situation as it happens much better. Charlie just being that good and not needing demonic senses for sin or emotion reading? My cup of tea! Charlie not even looking at Vaggi and being able to tell a situation has soured with her back turned, or just knowing what that look means.
The couple that does that look reliably. The couple that matches without even trying, but they do try sometimes. The couple that wants to share hobbies together, but also values their independence. The couple with the silent tells that the other can read before they can even discern the issue? Yes.

Summary: It's time to help with this 'Happy' Hotel for wayward souls and Charlotte's minimal staff will simply not do. The hotelier, bartender, and housekeeping positions are taken, but there are other positions that need filling. That's where he pulls another string.

Looking at Vaggie and seeing that the only Hotel Staff available for anything was simply her, oh, he shakes his head. This will not do, simply it will not do! Going through the contracts and deals through his head, it's not a wonder to you when you feel that tug — if you had time at all to react or feel it. Husk sure didn't, you came to find out later, but it matters not anymore.
Within a section of the Hotel main foyer that resembled where you last stood: it transformed into a better state of its previous condition when you suddenly filled the space.
If you were on the streets before, you are facing the front doors when all of Alastor's magic wears off. If you were in the kitchen or a restaurant, the hotel staff can hear you crash pots and pans in their dining area as Alastor may have taken you from wherever you were serving, sitting, or walking. If you were asleep, just now falling from about the chandelier's height was simply a way to wake you up! That kinda jazz.
When you find yourself somewhere else, and before an ever-so pleased set of pearly yellows grinning at you — it was not something you can feign you couldn't see coming. You can get angry, you can get sad, you can even be happy but Alastor's contracts are nothing to sneeze at so... maybe hear him out? Get a nice introduction like Niffty.
If you don't hear him out you'll get the usual demeaning jokes and convincing like Husk did, or worse, a threat on your (im)mortal soul.
Take your pick! You sold your soul, so it was a futile endeavor to fight him any further. Welcome to your new position !

With how minimal the front desks natural staffing is here, you find Alastor made your job the most ambiguous job yet and your position piles a bit.
Truthfully, Alastor doesn't pick just anyone for jobs and does have a face of reliability to put on for Charlotte so you must be okay with people and organization, maybe even are good at memorisation and remembering this or that. Now, you don't have to be great at it, but those who are good enough will thrive here.
If you're not good at any of those, Alastor probably did it to spite you. Have fun with that, actually! It's the people of the Pride Ring, you're not getting out of this without some stressors from dealing with people.
If you take the concierge job you're going to have to greet people and answer all the questions of the building, even recommend and recognize people and places outside of the hotel. If you're at the front desk you'll probably be grouped as not only the receptionist but also the manager to complain to, if Alastor leaves his position and Vaggie is nowhere to be found, especially as your the first and last person guests see in their stay.
It's also quite funny to Alastor when you need someone to do baggage and Vaggie is not around. If you're the type to be kind to any members of Alastor's other deals, Husk might be a reliable guy to ask for help if he's not busy, but otherwise your alone.
Alastor will enjoy seeing any outcome where you succeed or fail in your position — but your prior relationship with him will skew that heavily. He likes watching people suffer and fail so you having to deal with empty positions of management and his disappearing act are hilarious as you scramble around, but at least making sure this place can function is what he needs. Your immediate needs are met, but that's all you'll get from Alastor on that front.
If you request anything it will be done in an Alastor-timely manner consisting of either immediately or literally 3 to 4 business days. No in-between. If a guest is genuinely getting on your nerves, that's not Alastor's call so it's best to go to Vaggie first. Then Alastor. Vaggie has sound judgement and doesn't particularly like the guests — or you, for that matter — until certain actions are proven so she'll be on your side quite a bit. But she can get clouded by Charlie's dream and wishes to fill these rooms...
But if anyone does so much as steps out of line and harms his staff or the Hotel, Alastor is your safest bet. Your under his contract after all and stalling for the Princesses take on the matter simply won't do. You come to him, he'll deal with it. Promise.

Someone has to keep an eye on all this pesky technology and keeping a certain roaming TV head out of their hair, and a handyman is far more appealing to have on-site than a phone-in.
Yes, Alastor does love seeing you have a conniption as you spawn in and take one look around at all the decay of the original 'Happy' Hotel and when Sir Pentious blows a hole in the wall. Oh, that must be so rough buddy!
This position will deal with people who are irritated or even no people at all but you must be meticulous in your work, you don't want Alastor breathing down your throat, yes? Ignore the fact that not all technicians and carpenters specialize in all fields, Alastor will call in favors for stuff you can't do — as some facilities are too important to risk floundering.
When you get there and are put to work, let's just say you're either having a rather easy time or a rather difficult time in this mixed company. If you're more aligned with carpentry and general maintenance work like piping and roofing, you might find some actually give a sigh of relief because people generally understand plumbing, insulation, and fixing windows. If you're more of a technician you're going to have your work cutout for you because you're the only assistant in that labor camp besides Vaggie — and that's limited as well! Internet setup, keeping the front-desk computer running, wiring (if you're unlucky), security cameras, the broken television...
With how bad Charlie and Alastor are with technology on their own basis: it's a wonder a technician doesn't pull their hair out — maybe you will after this. When Sir Pentious joins, and later Baxter, you can find yourself an acquaintance if you'd like. Sure a handyman or technician is nothing compared to a mechanistic genius and a bioengineer doubling as a coding expert, but you can definitely get there with a bit of respect or kindness.
If you're called for cyber security of the Hotel's cameras you're fighting Vox off like he's a mosquito... in Louisiana summers, cause you're not catching a break. He's always in there as basically all technology folds eventually, but if you try to interrupt his little spying, your on Vox's shit list and Alastor's good side. Maybe even call Alastor over and have him jack the radio waves and let them have a little chat. He's bugging your work after all, and that won't do!
If you're absolutely sure of something not working on an aesthetic level, Alastor might be a foe on your end. You can lay carpet to fix patches where they're destroyed or try and redo the whole wall since the holes were bad enough you might as well, but Alastor will nitpick everything. You know that cartoon joke about someone changing the color of the paint on their wall more then 4 times just for someone to say it was better as the original? Alastor. And you can't do anything about it.
"Remember when I fixed that clog today?" Alastor says to Charlie in front of her dad to prove he does something and you squint your eyes. Nobody told you about a clog and you certainly didn't tell Alastor about any clogs... based on how this situation is going, it's best not to call him out.

This staff position is one that seems to conflict with the inner circle of your contractors hobbies, but you quickly realize why you're called in. While Alastor does like to cook and often tends to kick you out when he does, you're not there to keep the kitchen when it's the small circle of residents that starts out. You're their to assist the kitchen. And take the fall... Oh.
You're here to do everything inside the kitchen so that when Alastor does want to cook, he doesn't have to extend himself to summon non-rotten ingredients or clean utensils. When other services are needed, you do the work.
If you're a chef or even just someone who knows how to handle food, you're also the server, room service, the one to keep up food and pantry, and even help at the bar by ordering through contacts in the industry. If you come with your own contacts for food and drink, Alastor respects you more... but you're still not free of washing dishes if someone doesn't wash their own. Short of the ladies and Alastor, you might find yourself washing others dishes too.
This position will need someone meticulous and able to take criticism (because Alastor will be critical if nobody else is), someone who can stand on their feet and be a bit creative. If you're not particularly close to this, yes you are, you just haven't gotten there yet. Alastor does not fool around with the kitchen staffing and you will not put anyone at least up his standards for the position.
He does make your job harder though, even if he respects food too much to mess with you there, by waiting for the Hotel's popularity to skyrocket before making his move. Bells. You know those old home bells for the staff that ring from another floor and are annoying? Oh, you bet he makes sure those are ready to go.
You have his support and ear if you mention anything is wrong with the kitchen and it actually is rather chill compared to most other positions. He will still do his disappearing act but if the grape vine you start is talking about raw food from faulty refrigerators or broken ovens, you'll find he tends to pop up after you've run laps in Hotel at least twice to find him. He was always there, silly! No need to be so frantic!
Because of how finicky food, cooking or otherwise is, and keeping up with an entire pantry can be you're often the one who sees the squabbles and even the harsher version of what Husk gets. In a way. Bartenders may hear the soul and grievances of their patrons but those requiring food service can be just about anyone — people who are angry, people who are crying because of this or that, people doing a personal spa day, people who are less dressed than they should be. If Alastor is nice to you, the shoe drops here on why he's watching you for entertainment.
The worst part about this job is keeping the original residents out of the kitchen once it starts picking up, if you want to enforce that at all. Angel or Niffty getting into the kitchen can usually be okay, but suddenly having some food stuff rummaged or stabbed bags can lead to contaminated stuff. Don't even get me started on labeled personal meals — those squabbles will happen. Best you put a stop to it, for your own safety and peace. Alastor finds it funny to see you try.
This was fun! I know that the staff is already so bloated in canon compared to the residents of the Hotel, at least in season one, but I always loved hospitality work... in fiction. Also, hope your holidays went well!

Summary: It's time to help with this 'Happy' Hotel for wayward souls and Charlotte's minimal staff will simply not do. The hotelier, bartender, and housekeeping positions are taken, but there are other positions that need filling. That's where he pulls another string.
Summary: It's Sinsmas after all that has happened to the Hotel and helping Charlie rebuild is the least you both can do, especially since Sinsmas is coming up and if this Hotel isn't finished, Lucifer will break down. His daughter, at a motel for her human holidays, cleaning debris? Absolutely not! So, when he finishes up his end of the deal, why does that accomplishment feel... like it never mattered?
Summary: Alastor had gotten too close to the Hotel Ensemble for his own liking, especially after what he did on the roof with Adam, so he's calling in a favor. What's a favor between... colleagues?
Summary: While it's truly no one's business what happens to their relationship, it's quite a sight to see them fighting (like in Season 2), let's look into that relationship with some brainworms of mine!
