SOME LEGENDS ARE TOLD; SOME TURN TO DUST OR TO GOLD
Eldest son of Orion and Walburga Black, Sirius grew up in the polite graces of pureblood society, born to the prestigious House of Black and heir apparent to the Black dynasty. He learned how to waltz and foxtrot before he learned how to ride a broom, having had various tutors from a very young age, lessons varying from proper speech etiquette to impeccable table manners. His mother spent most of her time criticizing her eldest son, throwing biting remarks his way every chance she got. Not only did she make it abundantly clear that Sirius was a disappointment, but she also made sure he understood that it was his duty to uphold the Black family name. Orion, on the other hand, was fond of shoving Sirius around every time the boy did anything that was less than proper, determined to beat out his rebellious nature. But rather than make Sirius the perfect son, it only made him even more aware of his familyâs toxic nature. The only bright side to being a part of the Black family was his brother, Regulus, and his favorite cousin, Andromeda. He found in Regulus a reason to stay, he felt the need to protect his brother from their parents and their poisonous ideals. Shielding Regulus from the truth and acting as his defender throughout their childhood. It wasnât until Sirius arrived at Hogwarts that it became increasingly apparent that Sirius was nothing like the rest of his family, becoming the first ever member of the House of Black to be sorted into a house that wasnât Slytherin, instead being placed in Gryffindor, shocking not only himself but everyone else as well. It didnât take long for Sirius to make friends amongst his housemates, finding a kindred spirit in fellow Pureblood, James Potter, the two of them becoming fast friends, and later Remus Lupin, a somewhat shy Half-blood who much preferred the company of a good book than to socialize with his housemates, and Peter Pettigrew, a lonely, quiet boy who was in desperate need of companionship. Together, the four of them soon became known as the mischievous quartet of Gryffindor house, their bond only growing stronger once they learned of Remusâs condition. James, Sirius and Peter soon decided to learn how to take on an Animagus form in order to accompany Remus during the full moons. Christened Padfoot because of his Animagus form by James, the four friends soon became known as the Marauders. Sirius grew to think of his friends as brothers, a family far better than the one he was born into. Charming, confident and mischievous  Sirius has made quite the reputation for himself amongst his fellow students. He isnât afraid to break the rules as often as he pleases, Jamesâ penchant for trouble having rubbed off on Sirius, and enjoys the rush that comes with letting loose every once in awhile. Even from a young age, Sirius had a talent for creating havoc wherever he went and an affinity for mischief that no matter how much his parents reprimanded him, could not be subdued. A born troublemaker, Sirius was famous for the amount of planning he put into his pranks, taking great pride in his ability to make even the sourest of professors crack a smile. A heartbreaker in the worst sense, Sirius is a womanizer through and through, indulging in debauchery without a care for the long string of broken hearts he leaves in his wake. Yet, somehow, not one of his past conquests can bring themselves to hate him, no, itâs almost impossible to dislike Sirius. Beneath his reckless behavior however, Sirius possesses a heart of gold, a true friend to those he finds deserving of his loyalty. Not only does he possess a great deal of bravery but he is also an extremely trustworthy individual, always willing to do what is right by those he loves. The summer after his fifth year proved to be quite eventful for Sirius. What would have been a typical row between Sirius and his father soon turned into  much more when Orion tried to physically harm Sirius, an action that proved to be the straw that broke the camelâs back. Without a word, Sirius turned his back on his family and everything he had once known, his fatherâs furious threats and Walburgaâs outraged cries not enough to make Sirius stay. To his pleasant surprise, the Potters took him in without a complaint, treating him like one of their own, giving Sirius the love and attention his parents had denied him for so long. He soon grew to realize that leaving his family was the best choice he had ever made, his only regret was having left Regulus behind to pick up the pieces. Now, back at Hogwarts for his sixth year, Sirius has found himself shunned not only by his cousins, but by his brother as well, Regulus refusing to even look at him. Too say it broke his heart to watch his brother hurting would be an understatement, but there wasnât anything he could do about it, not now that Regulus acted as if he didnât even exist. But Sirius knows that as long as he has his mates, heâll somehow manage to get through it.  Aware of the war currently being waged outside of the castle walls, his family having always been staunch supporters of the Dark Lord and his ideals, Sirius has found himself trying to distance himself even more from his family and their dark reputation. He sees the way people have begun to look at him, as if, despite everything pointing to the contrary, heâs still one of them, and the last thing Sirius wants is to have his loyalty to his fellow housemates doubted. He is willing to do whatever it takes to prove to everyone that he is nothing like his father, like Bellatrix. Willing to prove that he would do anything it takes to keep the people he cares about safe from harm.

a playlist for Sirius Black ;; marauder, gryffindor, reckless, loyal, brave, a rebel with(out) a cause. a playlist for staying up too late and waking up with the sun, for coffee as black as it gets and glasses of firewhisky that burn your tongue and lips as you knock them back. for the sound matches make when you light them, and the way your hair and hands smell of smoke after youâve finished what feels like the millionth cigarette. for leather and hard rock and the purring sound your bike makes when you rev the engine. for singing too loudly and laughing too unashamedly and long nights running in the forest with the wind so close to your skin and hair that you feel like youâre made of something elemental. for the best of friends and the worst of enemies and the fact that the only colours you ever wear are red and gold because youâre a fucking lion and youâre so damn proud of that. and most importantly, for the fact that family isnât determined by blood, but by choice.

James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, & Peter Pettigrew.Â
One affluent. Two pureblood. Three loyal to their cause. Four souls that had come together in spite of all difference. They liked to imagine that it would be like this forever: kings of their own right beaming through the halls, chasing after pretty redheads, leaping through the forest in a body that was and wasnât their own, completely consumed by freedom and possibility. The war has never been quite real to them. Perhaps it is the way they live, or the fact that they are never truly alone, or  that this happened (it still makes them laugh). All they know is that one day (thereâs still time to be young, thank Merlin), they might be on the front lines of the war, and all this will just be some far-off, lingering d r e a m .Â

JAMES POTTER + sirius black
eleven-year-old james potter peered into the mostly empty compartment before sitting himself down on the bench. the other boy, the only one in there, paid him no notice, choosing instead to glare out the window at nothing in particular. james looked the boy up and down for a moment before clearing his throat.
âoi, do you wanna be best friends?â
the other boy finally looked at james, looked him up and down, and raised his eyebrows. âwhy would i want to be best mates with someone with such stupid hair?â
james didnât miss a beat. âbecause Iâm awesome and really doing you a favor. after all, youâre the one with stupid shoes. you chose that; i canât help my hair.â
the other boy raised his eyebrows again and james mimicked the motion with extra dramatics. they stared at each other for a long moment before the other boy looked away, sitting back in the seat. âalright then.â
james grinned and sat back. âyou know best friends is forever right?â
the other boy snorted. âwell obviously.â
âWell bredâ is a word which doesnât mean anything at all, but which some people use to make themselves feel better than others.

HARRY POTTER CHARACTERSÂ | sirius black
littlelionmarls:
Having long ago learned to keep an eye out for slinking Marauders, consciously or otherwise, Marlene hadnât been quite aware of her eyeing Sirius from across the hall until she saw him slipping away. She had been just on the edge of the perimeter encompassed by the spell when sheâd realized the prank, snow powdering her hair and a shiver quaking through her as darted quickly away from the bulk of the damage. Filch was going to be livid about the mess, but then when wasnât the bastard peeved about something or another? Even if she hadnât born witness to the boy sneaking off, it would take no genius to figure out the perpetratorâŠthere was usually a one in four chance of pointing a finger in the right direction.Â
As she approached him, the blonde shook her hair out, flinging the melting snow in it toward Sirius. âI was just thinking the same thing,â Marlene smirked, running a hand to smooth her now semi-damp hair. âSharing is caring, innit, Black?âÂ
Sirius knew he probably should have made a quick exit as soon as he saw Marlene coming (sheâd witnessed far too many of the Maraudersâ pranks not to suspect at least one of them on an occasion like this), but part of him was intrigued and more than a little amused to see how she would react to his latest m a s t e r p i e c e. Having snow flung at him came as something of a surprise, and Sirius had to fight hard to prevent himself from letting out an ungodly yelp as the cold substance hit his face and ran down his shirt collar.
Being a master of maintaining an ever-casual facade, however, he simply shook the snow out of his own hair, sending a halo of droplets spraying from his black locks, and fixed his fellow Gryffindor with a wide grin. âAww, Marls, does that mean you care about me?â His grin widened, then, turning into something of a smirk, and his silvery eyes glimmered with barely contained mirth. Heâd wilfully misinterpreted her words, he knew that, but it was just so fun that he couldnât help himself. âBe still my beating heart.â

C O M F O R T. That was the first word that came to mind as she settled into his embrace, face hidden and fingers nestled into his hair â although she wasnât quite sure who was comforting whom. By this point, maybe he needed it more than she did. âYouâre so much better than you think you are,â she whispered, leaning back slightly to look at him. âIâm not saying that youâre perfect â God knows Iâm not either. But youâre better. Youâre better, and I love you, and I mean that. And I donât say that to everyone, okay?â
âThanks, C,â he told her, voice so low it was barely audible, and allowed himself briefly to enjoy the feeling of her fingers carding through his ebony locks. He wasnât sure he believed her, still, (in fact he knew that she had to be mistaken, that he wasnât the hero she made him out to be - it was only a matter of time before that would become evident), but there was still something comforting in the knowledge that there were at least a few people who believed in him.
