❝ nate – ! ❞ this is the third time she’s been hit this day alone – that’s not even taking into account the four straight days that she has endured this. at first it was kind of funny, but now? now he’s just asking for war. ❝ that is it! ❞ she hops over the back of the couch and now it’s a hunt – except instead of using a nerf gun of her own she’s taken on a more natural approach of once she reaches him, she tackles him to the ground.

❝ —— well, they’ve gotta sleep at some point, right ? besides, being still is the LEAST they could do for you if this is how they are on a regular basis. ❞ he honestly didn’t know how she managed to sleep with all that moving about; more props to her, he supposed – it was yet another thing she could do that would never cease to amaze him about her. leaning toward her, he presses a chaste kiss to her temple; slinging an arm around her shoulders. ❝ i’m sure if something was ever wrong, you’d be the first to know, alright ? they’re okay. ❞

she shifts in her spot so she can lean into the comfort he’s bringing her. she doesn’t really freak out that much, but all this pregnancy brain gets to her from time to time. ❝ well, duh. ❞ she doesn’t mean to laugh because she knows he means well, but it’s hard not to at least a little bit. ❝ but you’ll be the next to know. promise.  ❞

as if she really needed to ask such a silly question. allowing for her to pull his hand towards her, he can’t help the lopsided smile that spreads along pallid brims as his hand is pressed firmly to her stomach; a soft laugh fumbling out betwixt parted lips. ❝ —— sure seems that way, right ? i give major props to you for putting up with that, by the way. because all that moving about would drive me crazy. ❞

❝ someone’s gotta do it. ❞ she offers a small shrug of her shoulders as she laughs. her free hand joins his on her stomach, and she’s right back to being comfortable again -- well, as much as she can be with a baby kicking around in her belly. ❝ i’ve gotten used to it, though. i think i’m more freaked out when they’re not moving now. gives me anxiety just thinking about it. ❞

❝ hey -- wanna feel something cool? ❞ who is she kidding? of course he does, and before he can even reply she’s grabbed his wrist and she’s tugging his hand over. she’s six months pregnant with baby drake and the little person inside of her is moving like crazy. pressing his hand to her stomach, the excited smile on her face gives way to just how happy she is with this whole situation. ❝ you feel that? it’s like they’re throwing a party in there or something. ❞

lays down next to her, rests his head in her lap.

it’s a quiet little moment in their appropriately quiet little life now. not everything is all figured out – it never is – but the big picture seems much more obtainable than it used to. right now, things make sense, and she just likes how that feels. she can follow leads and write stories all she wants, but when the time calls to set the pen aside and just enjoy her life she can, and she’s even more happy to say she can with him. and in the coming months, she’ll be changing that ‘him’ to ‘them.’

the added weight in her lap is hardly unwelcome, and she places her hand against his scalp before slowly letting her fingers slide through the short brown strands. peach lips are pulled into a sweet smile, and as a certain thought pops into her head, she can’t stop the small giggle that soon follows.

❝ you know, pretty soon you won’t be able to do this. won’t be enough room for the both of you. ❞ she explains matter-of-factly. her free hand moves to press lightly against her stomach, and the smile doesn’t leave her face even for a moment. ❝ what’re you gonna do, hm? ❞

❝ you should feel very special. just saying. ❞ with a smile crossing pallid brims, he cants his head to the side ever so slight; brow arching. ❝ i was wondering.. syfy is doing their thirty-one days of halloween right now and, well — you wanna share a blanket, maybe get some snacks together and join me in the living room ? and we can marathon whatever corny horror flicks they’ve got airing tonight ? ❞ he questions, a laugh following suit. ❝ give ourselves a break from work. ❞

❝ scary movie date night? ❞ the offer definitely sounds much better than being hunched over the laptop for another hour or so. she figures she deserves a break -- they both do. ❝ alright, i think i could swing that. just don’t get crumbs all over the couch again. ❞ she can’t help the small jab - it’s a sign that she’s excited to spend the quality time together.
