Peter David created the character Miguel O’Hara in 1992, but today his health is declining and medical bills are piling up.

Peter David had a series of Strokes, a mild heart attack, and is experiencing kidney failure. The medical bills for surgeries, rehab, and extensive hospital stays are steep. His home has to be completely remodelled to accommodate his wheelchair and new needs.

Peter and his wife have very little income at this point in time. He is employed at Marvel but is on leave so he receives no income. Conventions were also a large source of income but he cannot attend due to his health. His wife, Kathleen, has had to cut her work hours because she is juggling taking care of Peter, and the home renovations.

warning for those going to see new movie "The Black Phone": theres a very realistic scene of child abuse with a belt, i felt so in shock with how real it felt and i realize how triggering it could be for certain people and wanted to put it out there so people could be prepared if they go to see it!

my take on the black phone

the black phone was a great watch for me, i wouldnt necessarily say it was the best of the best, but it was really fun to watch/experience. it kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time! i was bouncing up and down and rooting for finney the entire time. i can understand it being hard to adapt a short story into a full length film, and considering that much space to fill in, i think some things could’ve been explored more, or the movie couldve been a bit longer to explore more themes. i do honestly think it was a great concept tho, and im honestly rooting for a prequel. ethan hawke’s performance as the grabber sent chills up my spine! i would love to see the depth and motive to the grabber’s twisted character, decisions and morals! i also loved gwen with all of my heart, she kept me giggling. i honestly miss finney and robin’s friendship, they deserved better.

after suffering from a bad mental health day a few days ago, i never expected it to go even further down hill. but after the news we received yesterday morning, i’m not sure what to think.

yesterday was an extremely disappointing and scary day for women all over the united states. i genuinely have no words to describe how angry, scared, and disgusted i am. as a woman who lives in texas, one of the states who will be the most strict on abortions, i am terrified. i am absolutely floored due to the fact that school shootings are continuously happening every single day, and yet guns still have more rights than my own uterus does. i do not understand how we are moving so far back in time. it is disgusting and horrifying what this country is becoming.

it is important for us to stay together during times like this. this fight is far from over.

6 Tips on Writing An Actually Inclusive Reader Insert:

1. Do a ctrl + f search of the colors red and pink. If these colors are being used to describe the reader in any way, delete it.

2. Instead of "blushing", use "goosebumps", "shivers", "avoiding eye contact", etc. It still conveys the same thing, and you can get more creative than just using "blushing" 10,000 times.

3. Don't mention being pale or becoming pale (like, seriously, this is just a given). If you want to talk about the reader looking sick or dying, use "ghastly" or "sucken eyes", etc. Again, this is a great opportunity to be more creative in your language as well as inclusive

4. For body-inclusivity, don't talk about the reader sharing clothes with someone. I personally would not fit into anything that Nancy Wheeler owns, so yeah, let's just not do this

5. Don't mention hair. A lot of us can't just wash our hair and move on with our day. Don't get me started on "running their fingers across their hair". Just refrain from descriptions of styling, washing, and touching the reader's hair.

6. Don't put pictures of pretty, white girls for "aesthetics". It honestly just deters readers, and it's just not inclusive in the slightest

That's it, that's basically all you need to do to be inclusive. I'll admit, as a lighter skin POC writer, some of these did slip my mind when I used to write, but what's important is actually listening to readers and encouraging inclusivity in your writing.

just use physical descriptions as vague as possible. what black person do you know that has piercing blue eyes cmon 😭 if someone has to do mental gymnastics to apply themself to a “____!reader” fic there’s an obvious issue. there shouldn’t have to be “poc friendly” or any type of friendly labeled on a fic just so someone can feel valid reading it and apply themself to it. it’s blatant ignorance.
