"Do we not all, in a fashion?" Yevon would leave it at that. He could of course pull his usual trick- to split his face, revealing what monster hid beneath his skull… but that was something better used to invite fear, to save as a surprise for an opportune moment.
Far more interesting was how utterly unfazed this bird- birdman? Yevon wasn’t quite sure- seemed to be. Annoyed, absolutely, but otherwise unflinching. Perhaps this fellow was irritated to be found out so easily? Or perhaps he was merely confused by the mysterious stranger who would read him so easily.
Ah— manners. The ridiculousness of the bird’s shape had thrown Yevon from his usual graces, it seemed.
Sweeping a hand from beneath his cloak, to touch the pauldron over his heart, he offered, “Yevon. Yu Yevon. High Commander of Zanarkand.” That was a tease, of course, when Yevon no longer had a Zanarkand to command. “Summoning is my devotion.”
Slowly, the doctor's eyes returned to appraisal rather than narrowed annoyance. The other man's supposedly high rank would explain the cloak, though it was unlike any fashion he had ever seen in his modern world. At least, not the likes of which was to be taken seriously.
His gaze flitted from this man's--this high commander's--hand, then back to his face. The partridge was an observant one, taking note of how the other introduced himself with absolutely no humility, and how he took such care into answering as minimally as possible. As much as he had given, Yevon had also kept.
"Iwamine Shuu." He introduced himself in turn, replicating the formality. "Head doctor of St. PigeoNation's institute."
And while he knew nothing of Zanarkand or what the other could have possibly meant by 'summoning,' he had to wonder why exactly he mentioned his devotion. And what--if at all--Shuu himself had to offer as his. Medicine was a safe answer, though not entirely true. "Studies," he offered vaguely. "You can call it devotion."
What else did he have left?
