Asking the runes for a sign, I draw Thurisaz reversed.
My life has been at an accelerated pace recently, including a new place of employment, new relationships, new attitudes, and new tattoos. The recent period I've been going through has definitely been radically transformative.
Thurisaz reversed is my sign to breathe, turn inward, be still, meditate, and as Mr. Blum counsels, "wait on the Will of Heaven."
Thurisaz has been called a gateway and a place of non action. An airport comes to mind, and it feels like I'm on a layover. So, I'm going to enjoy this time before my flight arrives. Resting and flowing easily with the moment, I'll dream some more about my destination and all the wonderful experiences.
A few photos of tattoos. We added more vines to my berry branch, going up my neck. I've got quite a little tiny tattoo collection going since we added water, bird, moon, and fire. The fire burns. A talented, heavy handed, beautiful, 23 year old man did the fire, bird, and added to my berry branch. The day before a veteran named James did my back of neck tat, water, and moon. I love them all and am so thankful for the process.
At this point, I've had 12 tattoos. One of them was death pansies on my right shoulder over a large area of purple, green, n blue watercolor, which was unpleasant to walk around with for me. I enjoy anonymity and a bruise like water color tat lends itself situationally to the opposite of being unseen. Perhaps, I wanted physical comfort at that time. Interesting, tho moot point, it's covered now, as previously mentioned, with death pansies, impulsively sought after while I was driving around out of my mind with grief after my husband exited stage death.
All my tattoos were actually impulsively done. Many based on emotional pain and grief so deep, tattooing feels like relief, understanding, acceptance, and anticipation for healing, manifested physically, even artistically.
Tattooing is a good example of the impulsive nature Thurisaz, especially reversed, guides us to consider.
In my life, my tattoos are outward expressions of my inward intent to tread lightly and my understanding of the beauty of embracing the nothingness, yet everlasting quality of this experience, we call conceception, birth, life, death...
I also enjoy the idea that thousands of years from now my progeny may delight in possessing my dna in the form of my preserved, tattooed skin, maybe on a drum. Bang bam boom.
