So, Final Fantasy XIV is actually amazing and I’m mad I’ve wasted so much time and money on Wakfu. Or rather, the developer for Wakfu, Ankama.
They have terrible community management, poor communication with the players, too much focus on the cash shop… Not to mention their focus is split by continuing to update Dofus while also developing a Dofus 3?? It’s like, you’re spending so much time and money developing the Wakfu cartoon, don’t you want the game to also hold up?
For example, when they announced they were revamping the Enutrof class, it seemed like they were planning to do it with lots of player collaboration. They got a group of Enu players, and let them try out the new class to submit their feedback. The result? It seems like they completely ignored the feedback, and went ahead and released the class that everybody now hates.
Going along with all this, is just how little development they actually put into it. It seems they’re finally back on track with actually updating and releasing new content, but all the content seems to have lazy designs, relying on rng or massive HP pools for bosses.
They’ve also revamped the crafting and gathering system like three times in the last two years. And I’m just tired.
This game still feels like it’s in beta after like 5 years. I’ve played Final Fantasy XIV for about a week now and it’s just trumped everything about Wakfu for me already (enthralling storyline, lovable NPCs, plenty of things to always be doing, automating of mundane tasks, lots of PVP modes, etc).
Furthermore, with the removal of open world pvp (for better or for worse) the only kind of unique advantage Wakfu has over other MMOs is the turn based, grid strategy battle system. It’s just not enough.
So with that said, I guess I’m done with Wakfu. I had a great time on it, made some amazing friends and memories, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Although thinking about it, if it wasn’t for the friends I made, I probably wouldn’t have played the game for nearly as long. It’s just, enough is enough, and I’d rather waste my time and money on a company that seems to actually be accountable to its community and delivers a complete, and enjoyable, product.
Who knows, maybe I’ll log in periodically to Wakfu still just to see what’s up. I’ll probably also continue to draw Fekri and think about all the adventures. But as for the game itself, I think this is it.
