“You’re making the fundamental mistake of assuming you’re like everyone else, Blondie.”
The corners of her mouth tipped up just a fraction, although she wasn’t as credulous as Alaric seemed to think. After-all, it was exactly that kind of response that she was counting on when breaking in, in the first place. That his forgiveness would be more easily granted thanks to that nameless something that seemed to reside fairly mutually between them. And it seemed - at least for now - that she was right. Alaric didn’t seem angry. A little rankled, maybe, but she could charm her way out of that.
Only it wasn’t her doing the charming when Alaric chose that very minute to test her sincerity. Cami recognized it as soon as he pushed off the door and strode towards her purposefully. She tried to keep her poker face up and her body motionless even as the detective leaned in with a whisper. Abort, abort... A voice in her head sing-songed, faint alarm bells going off at the back of her mind. Abort mission. “Cut me some slack - it’s a big ego to work with.” The blonde replied, noting that she was trapped against his desk, knowing he was calling her bluff. Thankfully, Alaric didn’t press it, relieving her instead of an espresso and moving to sit into his desk chair. A sigh she didn’t realize she’d been holding filtered inaudibly past Camille’s lips.
“Why is there virtually no information on this Agency online? Why do you guys even have files on my brother’s death when the NOPD cleared the case and ruled it as a murder-suicide?” So she hadn’t managed to find the file, but Stiles’ slip on their first meeting had given a way the fact that it existed. “This isn’t just your run-of-the-mill Investigations Unit, is it?” The psychotherapist asked, turning to face his desk. She’d done enough beating around the bush for a day. Any more and she’d be pushing her luck - even with Alaric. @sarcasticsxtiles
His hunch had been accurate. She wasn’t here for him. Whatever this visit was about, the root of it stemmed from Cami’s need to get answers. Answers he still couldn’t provide her. His gaze was steady on her as she recomposed herself, turning to face him now that he was seated. There was no hesitation in the slew of questions thrown his way and Alaric didn’t flinch, knowing they were coming. He had to give the girl props for lasting this long, for bothering with the facade at all...
When she finally ran out of breath and the speaking ceased, he delayed responding. Taking a slow drag from the cup as he watched her. “You know what my answer’s gonna’ be, Blondie.” His answer was, he had no answer. Just like the day she crashed his crime scene. He could neither confirm nor deny anything she’d just asked, or alluded to. Part of him wanted to tell her, to come clean with everything...start to finish. But he knew he couldn’t, he wasn’t ready and honestly? He wasn’t sure she was, either.
“Though...when has anything about me been run of the mill?” He winked playfully as he tossed the barb her way, hoping she’d let it go. Praying she’d walk away before this situation got any dicier than it currently was... “Like I said before, the minute I’ve got answers about your brother, you’ll be the first to know...”
