The love and camaraderie between the three was palpable when they came back out together to play the songs off their joint EP, boygenius. Born out of the idea to record a 7" as merch for their tour together, Julien, Phoebe and Lucy realized they had more material than they anticipated, and their collaborative work blends the best of each into something entirely new and vital. The rich harmonies of “Me and My Dog” sounded sublime live, and when all three women gathered around a single mic to close the night with “Ketchum, ID,” it was with all the power of their shared understanding and melancholy over the rigors of life on tour. It was even better having just witnessed lighthearted moments between the three, like Lucy and Phoebe exaggeratedly bowing down to Julien and pulling out lighters while she shredded on guitar.
