We joke and all but some of you really forget that people hate women.
Seeing people wonder “how can people say stuff like this” and “why does [x misogynistic thing] keep happening” is a bit disorienting because when you take a five second pause to think about it you can realize quite immediately that it’s because people hate women. Like guys… people HATE women.
I always found it so fucked up how women are forced to learn about male historians, geniuses, painters and philosophers and see them as smart and good people when they saw women as literal shit on their shoe, for example Albert Einstein, Aristotle, Norman Mailer, Martin Luther, Paul Gauguin, Thomas Aquinas, Picasso, Napoleon, Confucius, Dalí, etc.
I remember I got in trouble at school for saying male historians and geniuses who saw women as subhuman aren’t great and I refuse to praise them for their achievements. Imagine what this does to girls and their self esteem.
We barely learn about female history and when we do so much shit gets glossed over, and the history we get taught about in full is about misogynistic a$$holes. Then if girls complain they get lied to and told those men were actually great people and to just shut up. 😢
I was vocally critical during art school of all the male artists they would talk endlessly about - many of whom were not only verbally critical of women, but committed rape, domestic abuse, pedophilia, and plagiarism of womens work.
It did not go down well.

content creators are never going to think critically. content creators are freelance advertisers. they're selling something, not thinking. and genuine criticism of ingrained societal norms does not sell. on the left they criticse the social norms of the right because it makes their followers feel good about themselves, but a content creator will never challenge the status quo of their own audience.

Ok sorry I’m gonna expand on this a bit but it absolutely GALLS me how trans activists have used indigenous people as a talking point for YEARS, using the tribe that has two spirit as proof of their bullshit for years.
But when an indigenous person tells them how utterly offensive it is to use the word genocide, it’s just completely ignored.

You don't even have to go back that far, the Highway of Tears in British Columbia is a recent example that was determined to be a genocide of natives by targetting women and young girls, the future of a society.
Completely agree, and it doesn't help young and impressionable teens to hear that there is a genocide against them for existing when it's just not true.
There is no epidemic of violence against trans people like there is for other vulnerable populations. Most trans people that are murdered is due to intimate partner violence, prostitution, homelessness, racism etc.
Women go missing or are murdered EVERY DAY. Because they are women. Indigenous women are particularly vulnerable to this.

Reblogging for this excellent point because yes, indigenous women are going through far more oppression and genocide, seeing as how not only are they being murdered and then no one investigating (I live in Canada and know the crime statistics. Cops don’t fucking care) but also in Canada, indigenous women are still being sterilized by the medical industry. They go in for a procedure (usually a c section or other maternity care) and while she is under they put her through tubal ligation. The last story I heard about this was from 2020, 3 fucking years ago.
Now I’m even more pissed about this tbh
Reminder for everyone: Native American women in Canada make up 50% of prostitutes, despite being only 2-3% of the Canadian population.
Canada has a great problem of sex trafficking of Native American women and girls.
You all realize Feminists have been critiquing "women only spaces" for decades right?
I think often about Audre Lorde's critique of a women only event that welcomed her wife and daughter, but not her son. Because she questioned it - the function and purpose of barring even the sons of Feminist women from Feminist events. Especially the barring of her young Black son, who would otherwise be left alone in the city where he would be more prone to the very violence those same Feminist women claimed to want to change.
Because what functional, forward thinking Feminist purpose does it actually serve to do that? What message does that send to women with sons, husbands, brothers, lovers, friends, who want to involve the men and boys in their lives in their activism? Who want to build a functionally better world for us all outside of the oppressive grasp of Patriarchy? Especially for the marginalized men who often sit at their own intersection violent Patriarchal oppression, that still happens to be Patriarchal oppression despite it not being distinctly misogyny?
What purpose does it truly serve to sequester yourself away into a pocket of the world, detached from those you share it with? What bright and shining future does that really promise you?
Let’s apply this to other groups.
Should POC be allowed spaces that exclude white people? Should trans people be allowed spaces that exclude cis people? Should Muslims be allowed spaces that exclude non-Muslims? Should disabled people be allowed spaces that exclude able-bodied people? Etc. Etc. You could make the argument for any one of these that they’re wrongfully excluding well-meaning allies, possibly even the family of those attending the event. You could claim that it’s alienating to both those allies and those who want to bring them along.
But when it comes to any oppressed group other than women, nobody argues against exclusive spaces. And if they do, they’re rightfully viewed as ignorant (think white people complaining about not being allowed to join a black student’s union).
When it comes to anyone other than women, it’s generally understood that exclusive spaces for oppressed groups exist for many reasons. One might be wanting to find community with those who share your experiences. Another might be wanting to have conversations about these experiences without feeling pressured to change the way you speak about them for the comfort of outsiders (many women know that conversations about women’s experiences are very different depending on if there’s a man in the room. For example, talking about periods).
Why is it that this understanding suddenly disappears when we’re talking about women?
We can absolutely argue that there should be events open to everyone, because I agree that no progress can be made if we just shut everyone out all the time. But exclusive spaces are important too. Audre Lorde and any other woman who wants to bring men along to feminist spaces needs to accept that some spaces just aren’t suited for that. Some feminist spaces need to be for women only, and some need to be an open event for everyone. A balance can and should exist, because both of these spaces are important for different reasons, and achieve different things. We need both, not one or the other.
Audre Lorde was a Black Lesbian talking about her son, who was a child at the time. Shut the fuck up.
How does anything I said warrant a “shut the fuck up”?? Just because she’s a black lesbian with a child son doesn’t mean female-only spaces need to open up to males for her. She and every other woman who want to bring men or boys to feminist events are more than welcome to seek out mixed-sex events, or even create them! Nobody is stopping them from doing that. As I said—because I was agreeing with you—those spaces are important. But so are female-only spaces. They can coexist.
It’s really just as simple as this: not everything will cater to your specific needs, because some things will cater to the specific needs of others that differ from yours.

No literally like I don't know anyone who is on birth control exclusively for its contraceptive function. Its essentially just a hormone regulation medication. Yeah it's not perfect but the risk/benefit is personal.

also, what gets me the most about the “b-but the pill has side effects! it messes with your hormones!” argument is that virtually all other medications on the PLANET have some level of risk/benefit. birth control is NOT unique in that regard, but some radfems on here act like the potential risks/side effects are a gotcha when they really aren’t. esp if you’re disabled or neurodivergent, chances are that you are also already on a medication that could potentially have some pretty serious risks, too, but no one is crashing out over that lol.

uh “we as a society take for granted that women will endure harsh side effects in order to have sex with men, who, in the majority of cases, don’t treat them well” is a highly salient topic of feminist discussion and the alternative to entertaining this discussion is to live in a society where the only viewpoint is “women enduring harsh side effects in order to have sex with men, who, in the majority of cases, don’t treat them well is just How Things Are and everyone who complains about it is just being hysterical” which is, you know. The most dangerous place for a woman in the north of Ireland is her own home. 1/2 femicide victims are killed by an initiate partner. 1/6 girls in Northern Ireland will be sexually assaulted or been the victim of physical violence by a partner since 15. The average age of female homicide victims where sexual violence has been involved is NINETEEN. More than 5 women are being murdered a year in Northern Ireland by men, and that’s only the reported ones. If a woman is raped and murdered here, the media cannot report the rape. Abortion laws are so strict here, almost all pregnant women and girls have to fly over to England or wales or further to receive an abortion, we’ve been campaigning against this so long that Sinead O’Connor was one of the leading women trying to change laws surrounding this.
I am in full time education in one of the best schools in the country academically. We have a sexual predator, who was caught assaulting a girl in a classroom with a teacher present, just wandering around our school. He got THREE FUCKING DETENTIONS. Ive had boys try and stick their hand up my skirt, I’ve seen boys constantly sexually degrade female peers. But I have not seen any teachers do anything about it.
If this is my reality as a teenager, what will it be like when I’m an adult? I’m tired of screaming into a void about feminism when this is going on unseen peoples noses and they just don’t care. Misogny is 100% still a societal issue, it’s there, and it’s not going away unless we actually do something about it
