Been out all day in the sun but I don’t want the sun to go down in #GibSunday without a big thanks to @folkwaymusic and @guitarfixr for fixing the nut and doing a little fret work on my 1961 #LesPaul #SG Junior. The open high E string was sounding like a sitar for Pete’s sake! But it’s perfect now and fun to play again. Thanks so much you guys!

A lovely 1954 #Gibson #LesPaul Standard @capsulemusic #Toronto, spotted during #InternationalGuitarSummitONE 2017 yesterday, with the lovely @rpcc2 the lovely @malonzi5150, the lovely visiting Italian VIPs @maschio23 and @iampoldina and the somewhat less lovely me. 😁 It was a GREAT day packed with visits to 4 guitar shops and tours of two private guitar collections in the Toronto area (guess whose? 😁).

(Note the “shadow” left on the guitar by a different tailpiece that had been installed at one point and has been since restored to “cool” with the correct wraparound bridge)

#GibSunday is off to an unusual start this week with something you don’t see every day: a 1972 #Gibson #ES325 #TDW, spotted at @folkwaymusic, Waterloo, Canada.

These basically a budget version of the #ES335, but were odd #guitars which differed in several ways from the other Gibson #thinline semihollows:

1) they were semi-hollow but if I remember correctly, the center block does not run the full length of the body.

2) they had #minihumbuckers instead of regular #humbuckers

3) they had practical, if aesthetically questionable, plate-mounted controls. Unlike the other Gibson semihollows, you don’t have to go in through the f hole to get at the electronics.

4) they only had one f hole!

5) they had an unbound neck

6) they had dot instead of block fret markers.

This particular one also has those cool “Gibson”-embossed pickup covers that only happened in and around ‘72, that crazy “harmonica” bridge, and three or four layers of alternating light and dark body binding…the weird thing is that the outer-most binding layer is dark rather than the conventional white/crème. My cousin has one of these from (I believe) either '73 or '74 and his has a regular Tune-O-Matic (instead of the harmonica bridge) and single layer binding on the body. I have also seen red ones with single ply dark binding. Apparently there were a lot of cosmetic variations on the 325s during their short life!

My most recent #guitar purchase thanks to my friends at @capsulemusic Toronto: 1968 #Gibson #ES330 TD.

If I was only able to keep one guitar from my entire collection, this would be the one. Long neck join like an ES335 (the neck joins the body at the 19th fret, unlike pre-1968 330s that joined at the 16th fret), but fully hollow so it is nice and light (this one weighs in at 6 lbs 3 oz if I remember correctly) and #P90 pickups which are my favourite pickups in a Gibson. I could happily live the rest of my life with just this one guitar…

1966 Fender Mustang

This surf rock machine’s Sonic Blue finish has turned a very cool green.  The neck is marked “16 MAY 66B”. Brazilian rosewood fretboard, 22 frets, two single coil pickups, and of course that Dynamic Fender Vibrato!
