   THEIR DIAMONDS had said, of course, that a fusion of gems from two different castes    was unheard of for a reason. There was no possibility that they might remain stable    enough to be effective in battle; the sacrifice of a noble gem with future-seeing powers    was a casualty in itself, but one they were willing to dispose of nonetheless for the sake    of comforting the masses. Nevermind that she was stranded on this backwater planet    in the first place, her mission compromised and her Diamond inexplicably absent...but    in the presence of that VERY SAME fusion, no less.

   One that looked like she was willing to put up a fight.

    ‘ —or what? ’                   she does, however, come to a HALT. her shoulders roll, synthetic bones keening visibly beneath her skin, and raises her spear just so. she’s yet to take aim, ( and, lest the other DARE make a move, she never will, ) but she tilts it so that it catches the sunlight, gleaming a silent, but brassy warning.     ‘ those names won’t do you very much here. ’ her eyes dart to the mute communicator and something she’ll call guilt pricks at the back of her neck. ‘ i’m not going to hurt you. ’                   looking at the pearl before her is evocative in a way she can’t quite describe — if she’d a stomach, it’d churn with the thick of it. she’s able to say with certainty that the feeling is largely unpleasant.

   Pearl’s expression visibly p a l e s, any notion of further protest withering on    her tongue. She clutches the communicator as if it’s her salvation, white-    knuckled, but it remains silent and so does she, throat working under the    pressure of not speaking.

              A valid question, even if it was coming from an abomination.

   ❝ You. You- get away from me. I’m not interested in humoring traitors. ❞     The very sight of this Pearl wielding a weapon against her shakes her down to    her core, instills a sickening sense of WRONGNESS that she couldn’t even    begin to correct. This one was blatantly, incurably broken. Defective. Pearl’s    weren’t made to FIGHT.

      And goodness knows she wasn’t. She couldn’t defend herself EVEN IF SHE WANTED TO.

   ❝ Once I’m home- once my Diamond hears of this, you’ll regret ever having    thrown your life away for this useless hunk of rock. Leave me. ❞

This Pearl was so hard to deal with- being a Diamond’s Pearl had it’s ups and downs, but working with other Pearls could be so annoying. It was strange, because Pearls weren’t  supposed to be anything, much less annoying. Maybe there was something wrong with herself, as opposed to the other Pearl.
