What is really incredible is the arm gussets. Barbour put two 2" wedges under each arm. It now has superb range of motion. Best $40 spent on any of my Barbour refurbs.

I have a new pair of Caesar Guerini's but I have only owned SxS in the past. What type of grease do you recommend for the action? Good old Vaseline or some other fancy product?

Congrats on the purchase. Guerini makes some beautiful guns. I have been lucky enough to shoot a few of them and have been impressed.

From what I have been told by friends that shoot them, is that the chokes can be tight. Greasing them is really important. I also recommend loosening them a bit after you shoot.

I personally use Krieghoff “Gun Glide”. It is 7 bucks for a tube. I work under the theory, flawed or not, that Krieghoff sells nice stuff. In the end it could be the same as the grease walmart has. I just personally would rather spend the few extra bucks on a “name brand” grease since I already invested in an expensive gun.

So in the end I think brand doesn’t matter as much as using it frequently.

The real story here is what SxS do you have? Do you only hunt with them, or do you do any of the SxS competitions. I find those events mind blowing.

I am fortunate to shoot in a number of small sporting clays events in the fall and spring. I generally use a sxs along with a few of my friends. Never done a designated sxs class event before.

But recently I have been using Beretta 686 sportings in completions that I borrow from the gun club. Don't pretend to be a professional but my scores have gone up using o/u vs sxs.

Thanks for the advise on grease. Any concerns about clogging up the firing pins?

Keith Broadley started with Barbour more than 20 years ago working a table just like the one we’re looking at. Better known as the waxing station, it is here where the process begins, to take soiled, beaten Barbour coats and give them a fighting chance at another season of life.

We’re in Milford, New Hampshire at the U.S. headquarters for the legendary J Barbour & Sons. As we wait for the wax to melt, and the table to warm up, Keith opens up about Barbour’s past. He speaks in a way I’d assume Hemingway would: grizzled but comforting, always sincere, and with an underlying passion for what goes on here.
