Overview: Both these readings were very interesting to read about performance art and taught me about what it is. Performance art is an exhibition of actions executed by the artist to challenge the idea of what art is.

Artist Statement 4: This video was super fun to make. I went home for Thanksgiving and my siblings asked to see performance art, so we spent the night watching some more ridiculous versions of performance art. This led me to the idea, of a snowball fight with bread. So I made them participate, and now I present, Bread-Fight.

Reading and Response 3: I thought this reading was very interesting. The part I thought was very enlightening was the paragraph about the three senses of projection and the three types of origin the mythical, the archeological, and the psychological. The connection between projection and the construct of our conception of humanity was well made. The illusionistic aspect of projection was interesting, and the idea that falling for reality because it resembles reality through illusionary projection. Also, the idea that projection is not exclusively a peaceful or leisurely activity and can trick the mind's eye was interesting to read about. The relationship between cinema, projection, and illusion was apparent in this reading. Next, in the reading by a collet, the introduction of video art is apparent. The example of “A Trip to the Moon” by Georges Melies was my favorite because that was one of the first oldie movies I was introduced to, and it was artistically amazing and the  original illusion in the film was eye-opening. I loved reading about all the various and different ways to portray video art, through the presentation with projectors and through installations with audio and video, or installations without audio and only video. The screens in the grass was my favorite.

Artist Statement 3:

In this one-minute supercut video, I decided I wanted to use snippets of nostalgic films from popular coming-of-age movies I had personally seen to create an overall coming-of-age cut video. I used snippets from The Outsiders, The Giver, The Breakfast Club, Call Me by Your Name, My Girl, The Sandlot, 13 Going on 30, etc., etc. I also picked a song for the video based on modern nostalgic feel, and ended up with the song Coming of Age by Foster the People, which worked out perfectly.

Artist Statement #2

In my work, I used a singular video from YouTube about what life looked like in the 70’s in America. I decided to only use 3 frame GIFs, to show how different each one moves, and how fast or slow it appears although it’s all the same length. The best GIFs in my opinion were the videos that contained people, not just cars and lights, because of the nostalgic aspect of looking into people of the past. The similarities and differences between a longer GIF and a 3 frame GIF are apparent in how the GIF feels like a moving picture, unlike a looping video.
