"Can I ask you something?" Billy asks Ray one day.

"Sure."

"I don't mean this in a weird way or anything. If I cross a line, lemme know… You know that Mendel guy with the pee?”

Ray sighs. “You mean Gregor Mendel and his experiments with garden peas?”

“Yeah. I was reading one of your books and I was thinking- is skin color something that’s the average of the parents or is it just one or the other? I was just wondering what our baby could look like.”

Ray enthusiastically get into the genetics of skin tone and how it is much more complex than Mendelian inheritance.

Billy understands about 70% of the explanation. “I hope they look like you.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. You’re my best friend.”

*Billy and Ray going back and forth with a bit like this--

*There’s more than one instance where Billy is trying to get their toddler to settle down for a nap. Ray finds them shortly after, her asleep curled up on a sleeping Billy, him gently snoring and sometimes with one tit out. Ray finds it very sweet

*Ray and Billy playing "Isn't She Lovely" for their kid and getting really into it. One of them does a riveting performance of the harmonica solo on an "air harmonica"

*They see a bird (or a bat, Ray points out later) flying above the dome and one/both of them cry because that means there's breathable oxygen outside.

Do you think Ray and Billy would have more kids? I can kinda see them having a big family

I think Ray, especially, would want to hold off on having more kids until they find and rejoin whatever society/civilization still exists so Billy can get actual prenatal and obstetric care throughout (I imagine a lot of the process was pretty anxiety-provoking for Ray, even up to the early postpartum period). I think Billy would definitely want another kid ("Dude, we both were only children and look how we turned out.") and I've managed to get some other Biosphere fans on my "Billy and Ray have two kids agenda" (˵ ¬ᴗ¬˵)

I think they'd have three kids absolute maximum. Hopefully they find some metaphorical "village" in their community that becomes part of their extended family and can help out with the kids and, yeah, Billy can probably avoid some of the complications that are more common amongst older child-bearing people on account of his brand spanking new reproductive system, but the rest of his body is very much middle-aged AND he'd be parenting one or more kids as well so it would probably take a lot out of him.
