mikhail barked out a laugh, face squinting when the action brought another jolt of sharp pain through his chest. “yeah, he’s a real doctor. he tends to charge more than he should, though, so if you do call him, let me negotiate, okay?” the brunet smiled, touched by finnegan’s concern even if he’d never admit to it out loud. “you’re not gonna lose me, don’t worry.” in reality, mickey was sure his husband’s concern came from a place of worry about his own financial stability rather than concern for mickey himself— after all, if mickey was dead, who’d pay the bills? — it was still nice to allow himself to pretend that finn cared about him. “do you want kids? in the future, i mean.” mickey asked after a moment of silence, thinking finnegan’s words through. mikhail always knew he wanted children, but he wasn’t sure finnegan would too; considering they didn’t even share a bed, it seemed almost impossible for the man that they would ever get to the point of sharing kids. in any other situation, mickey would’ve been uncomfortable with the sight of finnegan having to dress him, but the pain and fever combined with the blood loss were more than enough to make him not give a shit about anything. mikhail laughed at the crude words, pushing his body onto the pillow before collapsing on it, a small smile still tugging at the corner of his mouth. the tall man felt a wave of shock run through his body when finnegan laid next to him, when he touched him; mickey forced himself not to react, scared that he might push finnegan away. instead, he simply took his hand in is, body melting against the bed. “i’ll definitely try to make time for that. well, you shouldn’t stop your life because of me. you’re a person, not my trophy. if you want piano lessons, you get piano lessons.” his point would probably have been better if the words hadn’t been cut with yawns, but mickey was past controlling himself. his eyes close on their own when the other male starts to run his fingers through his hair, and mickey needs to force himself to pay attention to what he’s saying. “we don’t get guys like that very often anymore, but if we don’t make an example out of him, things can get really bad for the girls.” he paused for a moment. “you’d like them. our girls, i mean. you’re just as much of a menace as they are.” mickey lets out a small, bubbly kind of laughter. “ ‘m feeling better. just… hazy, i guess.” he turned his head to the side, looking at finnegan through half-shut eyes. “thank you. for taking care of me, i mean. and i’m sorry for ruining your night. i’ll make it up to you, somehow.”
finnegan stared at him in awe, he’d noticed every single wince and harsh breath. it broke his heart to see the other like this and the thought of having to see him way worse eventually, terrified him. “nonsense, you can barely breath properly. we’ll pay him what he asks for and you’ll let it be. i can handle this.” for once he wanted to show the other he was capable of making decisions, of not being another trophy or prop in his life. “promise?” it sounded innocent, how finn worried about his husband and wanted to keep him close even when they barely knew each other. finnegan had grown up surrounded by family values, he knew that the day they married when the words ‘forever’ were muttered, they were meant. “i do. do you?” his voice was low, the male hadn’t thought about it much, but he knew it was his duty to care for their home and their kids eventually, just like his mother had said. having their mini-me’s running around the mansion seemed fun, finn had always thought that the white-picket fence ending of movies was magical. the family with kids, a dog and a happy life were ethereal to him. his fingers brushes gently against his hair, hopefully mikhail would fall asleep soon. finn doubted he’d even be able to, between checking his temperature and having a mini freak out if it changed in between, he wouldn’t see a minute of sleep. his fingers caressed the other’s hand, giving him a slight squeeze. “i’ve always thought the chefs made way too much food for a brunch of one, it’d be nice if you could come. i’ll make sure to make my mom, your personal cheerleader, come too.” the brunet rolled his eyes playfully “thank you.” it was endearing, how his husband would make sure he’d get everything he wanted even when finn was a nuisance most of the time. from the jewelry, clothing, lingerie and furniture, mikhail made sure finnegan had everything his little heart desired. “i’ll come down to the office one day then, maybe you can introduce us. god knows i’m in need of friends” finn gave the other a smile, hushing him quietly as he noticed him falling asleep. perhaps, he was impulsive, dumb even. but he reached closely to mickey’s face, lips pressing against his cheek softly as he placed a kiss goodnight. his cheeks blushed a deep red instantly, hazel eyes looked down on their bed as he laid back down “none of that. you haven’t ruined a thing. just sleep, rest a bit. i’ll make sure to cook that dish you mentioned in the morning as a reward if you go to bed.”
