A gridworld is an actual thing used in AI/computer sciences. In short, it’s a maze-like grid and an AI variable is placed in it with a given goal. The AI gets points for making a right decision, and losses points for making a wrong decision.

This goes on until the AI is smart enough to complete the “game” on its own and learn all the rules for a best possible outcome. This can be used for a buncha cool stuff (Ex: teaching AI to drive cars or play video games). Reinforcement learning is fun.

In cl16, Gridworld is a literal gridworld.

Whatever they’re training for, in theory, could function in and out of Minecraft (with a proper vessel).
