âBreakfast is on the table, and the showerâs available, if youâd like,â Victor says without looking up from the morning paper.
The footsteps he heard walking down the hall immediately still outside the walkway into the kitchen. He turns the page with one hand, bites into his apple with the other.
âChris probably wonât be up until noon,â he continues, speaking around the fruit in his mouth. âSo you could take your leave right after.â
Thereâs silence for a few moments, and then the faint sound of someone trying to stifle a giggle. âOkay,â a sweet voice says.
Because Victorâs used to this, of course. Because Victorâs a good friend and a good roommate, and Christophe is too, for the most part, which is why bringing hookups home to their apartment has been okayâd for Mondays and Fridays and Saturdays. It takes 21 days to form a habit and itâs already been eight weeks into the semester, so Victorâs used to this, this part where maybe Christophe is a good friend but he is not a particularly good hookup, so itâs Victor who has to be the one to usher them out of the apartment.
(He should have majored in hospitality, he thinks.)
Christopheâs Saturday Night seems to think so, too.
âThis coffee is amazing,â he says, practically inhaling the mug. Saturday Night reaches forward to pluck a strip of bacon from the center of the counter. âI woke up because it smelled really good,â he admits. His hair is flat on one side of his head and there are pillow creases along his cheek. His lips are dry and thereâs sleep crusting his eyelashes and Victorâs not used to Christopheâs hookups being so⌠soâŚ
âHow do you know Chris?â Victor asks casually. One question, heâs allowed one question. He never asks questions, so this is okay, they roll over. Or something.
Saturday Night smiles at him around a piece of toast. âDance team,â he says brightly. âWith the showcase coming up, you knowâŚâ He waves a hand. Reaches up to rub the back of his neck. Victor does not count the hickeys. âItâs been pretty stressful.â
Victor clears his throat. âItâs good to de-stress.â
Saturday Night blushes, and Victor hands him an apple.
âApples are good for stress, too.â
âYou seem to know a lot about stress, for someone with Chris as a roommate.â Saturday Night smiles, and Victorâs brain chooses that moment to remember how he sounds like moaning out Christopheâs name.
Victor coughs. âThat arrangement never worked out for us.â
Saturday Night hums. âWe hardly even have that. Iâm just his Saturday night hookup.â
âAnd youâre my Sunday morning,â the words slip out of Victorâs mouth before he can help it, cheesy and flirty and lame and god, Saturday Nightâs smiling at him like theyâre both in on a secret and itâs nine a.m. and he should be in the shower and well on his way, by now. Thatâs how it works.
It takes 21 days to build a habit and five minutes for Saturday Night to break it.
âSounds good to me,â Saturday Night says, settling into the seat next to him.
