Fire Emblem Awakening
Personally I am not a huge fan of tactical RPGs so when I found out that Fire Emblem was one I was slightly disappointed. (I knew absolutely nothing about the game other than the name up until yesterday mind you.)
So going in blind I downloaded the 3DS demo. A few friends on twitter were loving it and I figured why the hell not. Everything is gorgeous so far, cut scenes, art style, voice acting, everything. Then combat begins and I find out it is a tactical RPG. I feel my heart sink almost immediately. But since the story was compelling I urged myself to press through the demo, and I am glad I did.
I really enjoyed Fire Emblem and I will be making the purchase when it releases. Until I read another preview of the game I couldn’t quite figure out why I liked it when I have never been a fan of other games in this genre. Then it dawned on me.
The other turn based tactical RPGs felt so hollow to me. Its impossible to build relationships with the characters if they are randomly generated. Fire Emblem uses characters with pasts, not cheap throw a way characters you have no emotional attachment to. You can build a team that cares for one another. You can bond with the characters. This is one of the most important aspects of gaming to me personally.
I know that is a silly reason to like a game. But it is the truth about why Fire Emblem appeals to me when so many other tactics games fall short in my eyes.
Yes. Join the fold.
WOW
They did a really good job on the artwork for this game! :D
Yes, indeed. The characters are what makes this game so awesome.
(Sadly, no Renha official art yet. Poor guy.)
The green team.
If you ever need to rescue someone but want them to attack the next turn, here is how you can. It IS possible for those who don’t want to use dancer units or if your dancer can’t reach.
My brother calls it the “rescue-drop maneuver”
You need a minimum of three units to do this.
Have the unit...
So I’ve been playing a lot of Fire Emblem over the past couple of days. It’s funny how, every now and again, we come across games that personally mean something to us.
I’ve only played three of the United States releases, but I’ve loved all of them. Maybe it’s that childhood love of high fantasy...
This is a great description of the games. Thank you.
Hello New Followers
Thank you. You guys are awesome.
An example of single line defense with some natural bariers thrown in.
edit: I meant to put this on the tactics blog. oops.
Lyn, you are amazing yet again.
