Weekly update:

It was halfterm so a lot of my students forget their lessons and thus I didn’t get to work as much as I was expecting. Hopefully with a few new students starting this week that will be less of a problem.

Between that and a few birthday celebrations that were more expensive than expected, I went into my overdraft for a few days. Luckily it’s prearranged so no interest. I got paid today and cleared that.

I managed to save £100 (less than half what I had hoped) from the last paycheck, so £50 for each of the two weeks that covered. This puts me behind where I wanted to be, but I found out that an expense I was expecting of £30 will be covered by my university and I’m likely to get double pay for working a holiday soon, so between those two things I’ll have nearly made up your difference. Just gotta be a bit strict about non necessities/looking for deals and I should be back on track.

The interest on my savings is higher than I expected, so that’s good news! It’s at about £16 now total.

Weekly update:

This week I taught 13 lessons (enough to hit my savings goal with £6.50 left over)

And worked 8.5 hours at the bar (my usual is 4-6) so that should cover half of the formal I’m going to in March. I was covering for a sick coworker which was tiring because I didn’t sleep well and had taught a bunch of lessons already that day, but this coworker doesn’t usually ask for cover unless she really needs it and besides, 3 hours worked now (when uni isn’t so stressful) means 3 hours less when exam season hits!

I made £6 in tips and £1 in loose floor change, which I’m putting towards a bigger treat for myself later in the year (I’m doing the 1p savings challenge and just putting all my loose change in the box since I usually pay with card).

I also spent £20 less than last week, according to my bank statement. Getting my spending down is the real challenge because I can be quite impulsive.

As for uni, that went well. I didn’t read any of the texts this week since I’m not planning on writing my final essay on them, but I still contributed a lot to the class discussions. I also got to hang out with some friends after uni and went for some nights out.

Today is my day off and I’m just planning to rest/see some friends I haven’t seen in a while.

This is just my little blog to log achievements as I make my way through to the goal of financial stability.

I don’t want to talk about my goals to my friends because I don’t want to make them feel bad if I do well/feel sorry for me if I don’t. Also it’s a lot of maths lol.

The forums for FIRE are super nice, but not really the space for this. I just wanna mark achievements/post ideas in a little corner for myself.

My goal is to put myself in a position where I’m financially stable enough to pursue writing and only have to work part time (like 20-30 hours a week). I also want to pursue a master’s degree but that’s expensive lol.

My aim is to get on the property ladder, get my master’s degree, contribute enough to investment accounts while I’m young that I can ‘coast’ to retirement (not have to put anymore money in and just let the investments grow for when I’m older).

While I’m a student (age 20), I’m working two jobs, which means between 23-33 hours a week. Luckily I like both my jobs and my degree isn’t that intense (max 20 hours a week, and a lot of that is voluntary).

So far I’ve saved enough to max out my LISA this year, so that means I have £5000 in savings towards a house deposit. Hopefully I’ll be able to max out my LISA at least once more before the end of uni. Maybe even twice (but that would be some serious hustle lol).

The area I want to buy in is LCOL (low cost of living) so if I max out my LISA four times then I’ll have a 20 percent deposit. The only question is getting my income high enough that I could then get a mortgage for the rest. Is probably work as a teacher initially, which would more than cover the mortgage, but those jobs are hard to competitive in my area so we’ll see.
