<WHERE AM I?>
<...WHO AM I?>
[ooc below the cut]
Wanted to say that your art is incredibly f*cking good (I'm still gnawing on the 919 art you made a bit ago)
Also, I have another OC your could draw (if you want to)
Click (from one of my rp blogs @fishy-scientist)
Their document (for extra details)
The picrew I used
They were fun to draw an interaction. But would you accept candy from them?
<Look 19!>
<It's me!>
< :D >
*They are very thankful*
[The predator stared at the approaching creature]
[The lab coat and dark red goggles put them on edge]
[The creature's gas mask hiding their lower face did nothing to put the predator at ease]
[The creature's tan fins wiggled in interest at the predator, as a hiss came from the mask]
[The predator's distrust was only rivaled by their interest]
@blacksites-apex-predator
[The predator mentioned]
The predator's tail lashes back and forth as the creature in the gas mask approaches, glowing orange eyes flicking around the room, cataloguing possible escape routes if this encounter turns ugly. "...Hello?" Lux's wings and frills fan out, the otter mutant attempting to make themselves look bigger and more threatening in case the newcomer is an enemy.
*A voice rings out inside Lux's head*
<Hello.>
*The mutant's voice(?) is calm, though an underlying feeling of excitement is barely noticeable*
<Who are you?>
*The mutant's eyes shift to Lux's collar*
*The two small lights on the mutant doctor's gas mask change from a light blue to an equally light red*
Lux steps back as the lights on the other mutant's gas mask change in color, not knowing what that change means. If it's anything like the changes in their own glow, though...it's probably not a good thing. "...I'm...Lux. And you are?"
*The mutant pauses, realizing how they look to others*
<Don't worry, I am also against urbanshade.>
<My name is Click.>
*The lights on Click's mask grew slightly more red when they mentioned urbanshade, but quickly faded back to light blue*
Lux relaxes at that, their tail swishing behind them. "Click, huh? It's...nice to meet you, I suppose." Their wings fold back against their sides, the otter mutant's frills still fanned out to the sides of their head.
<It's nice to meet you too, Lux!>
*They sound happy, as a small bit of yellow appears in their lights*
<I think 19's mentioned you before.>
Lux cocks their head to the side. "19? You mean 919? You know him too?" A smile spreads across the otter mutant's face at the mention of one of the few beings down in this watery hellhole that they genuinely consider a friend.
*The yellow fills the lights on their mask, and they sound excited and happy*
<I do!>
<The two of us are roomates, actually!>
"Roommates, huh?" The luminous orange glow emitting from all across Lux's body pulsates, fading to a sunny shade of yellow to match the light of Click's mask. "Glad to hear he's got other people looking out for him."
<Yeah...>
*A slow pause, the same thought in both of the mutant's heads*
He needs it.
<Anyway!>
<How did you meet him?>
"Chance encounter, really- he was walking by the vent I was in, and I decided to poke my head out and take a look-" The otter mutant chuckles a bit, a warm smile coming across their snout. "That day was one of the best days of...well, of what little of my life I can remember."
<I am glad he made your day better.>
*A somber note, as colorless gray specs appear in Click's lights*
<I... I can understand memory problems.>
Lux looks away for a moment, the light emitting from all across their body dimming. "...Can I ask you something?"
*The grey is gone, the lights having returned to a calm blue*
<Sure! What do you want to know?>
"...Do you ever miss something without actually knowing what it is you miss?" Lux's light dims further, the luminous orange now tinged with a pale crimson as their finned tail droops downwards.
*Click sighs, sitting down cross-legged*
*Their mask lights are fully a somber grey*
<Yes.>
<It's... Honestly not that long of a story.>
Lux cocks their head to the side, sitting back on their haunches. "A...story?"
<I've only woken up recently.>
<Maybe... 2-3 days ago.>
<I... don't remember much before then.>
Lux's glowing eyes widen with surprise as their frills fan out to the sides of their head. "...Wow. And...you say you don't remember much...just how little do you remember?"
<Practically nothing.>
<It's all just... ideas.>
<I know things, but I can't remember how and where I learned them.>
*They bring one of their hands up to their face, hiding their eyes from Lux as they shift the goggles up to wipe away tears*
<And eventually, even those stop.>
<The only clue I have for why I'm here is my file.>
<I don't even have my own name.>
"Oh..." Lux's frills flatten against the sides of their head. "...I can relate. I...I can't remember my real name, or even what I used to look like." The otter mutant's tail droops downwards.
*Click turns towards Lux*
<I'm sorry this all happened to you, Lux.>
<You don't deserve this.>
Lux just stares at Click for a moment, before giving a small, shaky nod. "...Thank you." (But you do deserve this, vessel. This is what you were always meant to be.)
<You're w-...>
*Click pauses, their lights dimming slightly*
<...Who was that?>
"..." Lux stiffens, as their eyes widen, a pale shade of pink tinging the luminous orange glow emitting from the otter mutant's body. "You...you can hear him?" (Of course he can. Don't you see the crystal atop his head? Don't be stupid, Vessel.)
<Who is he?>
<The crystal? What's so special about it?>
*A small bit of red begins to glow in their mask lights*
<Also, it's they/them. If you plan to insult me, at least do it right.>
Lux sighs, the pinkish tint to the light emitting from their body deepening to a palish red.
“…His name is Maledict. He’s been in my head ever since the first experiments.”
(I believe that you can figure out the significance of the stone atop your head for yourself, godling.)
(Mal- what the hells are you talking about?)
(I speak not to you, vessel, but to the crystal-bearer. Hold your tongue.)
Lux lets out a low growl, their tail slowly beginning to lash back and forth behind them.
“Just…just ignore him, okay? He’s nothing but an up-jumped bully with a stick up his ghostly arse.”
*Click paused*
*Godling?*
*What does...*
*919 mentioned a rumor he'd heard*
*Back when they first met*
*Something about the crystal being one of Thor's bones?*
*...Thor was a god*
*Wait*
<Did urbanshade make me a demigod!?>
<I mean, that explains why you seem to be recognizing something, Maledict.>
<I assume you are some form of god?>
(HA!) Maledict barks out a laugh, although it's humorless and cold. (Me? A god? Oh, you truly have much to learn, little godling. What I am is...rest assured, I am something much, much more than a mere god.) "What you were. These days, you're nothing but a jumped-up ghost with delusions of grandeur."
The entity growls down at its host. Maledict is obviously displeased. (Did I not tell you to silence yourself, vessel?) "Oh, you did. The issue with that is that I don't give two flying fucks."
*Click sighed, rolling their eyes beneath their goggles*
<I can see why it's called a 'god complex'.>
<Anyways. What were we talking about, Lux?>
Lux chuckles, nodding at Click. "Uh...memory issues, I think- I'd rather not really talk about those much more, though..." Lux shakes their head. "So- have you seen anything interesting down here? I've found a couple cool things in the Heavy Containment rooms-" Lux may despise that place for the years they were confined there, but they've gotta admit that some of the trinkets they've found around the cells were pretty cool-
<I can understand that.>
*Click thought for a moment, tapping one of their 3 fingered hands on their mask*
*A small bracelet that looked like it was made of scrap, yet still shiny, sits on their wrist*
<A few of the things in heavy containment were pretty cool, plus some of the things 19 collected.>
Lux's eyes dart down to the shining bracelet for a moment before reestablishing eye contact with Click. "919 collects things? Like what?"
<Mostly shiny things, candy, and some chemicals.>
<The cool things are the shiny things he's made or found.>
Lux's ears perk up, the otter mutant's tail swishing from side to side. "...Candy? I...I haven't had candy in a while...and you said chemicals? What kinds of chemicals?"
*Click softly chuckles fondly, noticably more muffled than their voice*
<19 has one hell of a sweet tooth.>
<The chemicals though... That's an interesting one.>
"Heh- can't blame him for that-" Lux shakes their head. "...Interesting? What do you mean by that?"
<Not long after he set up his hideout, 19 found out that urbanshade's chemical storage was somehow untouched by the breach.>
<I wouldn't have expected it from a man who got arrested before graduating high school, but he has an impressive amount of chemistry knowledge.>
<Among other things.>

A meeting
*919 looked at the large tube in front of him*
*He'd seen tubes like it before, so this one didn't catch his eye at first*
*Until he noticed a shadow*
*There was a blurry shadow, inside the tube*
*919 questioned what it was, until it clicked*
*It's a person*
*Another experiment*
*They looked humanoid, so they might've once been human*
*What happened to them?*
*919 looked at the desk next to the tube for answers*
*Inside the top drawer, there was a file labelled "The Traitor" next to a pair of red and black goggles and a matching black gas mask*
*...So they were definately a human*
*919 opened the file, reading it*
*A few minutes later, 919 looked at the creature, feeling some level of pity*
*A whistleblower, someone who tried to reveal what Urbanshade really is*
*But they failed*
*919 looked at the drawer again, seeing the mask and goggles differently, now that he knew their purpose*
*919 looked at the tube again, noticing something he hadn't seen before*
*[Almost like his eyes were drawn to it]*
*A lever labelled "Release"*
*919 could figure out what it did*
*919 reached an arm out, before hesitating*
*What if they're feral?*
*Most of the DNA from their file is*
*Maybe they will attack?*
*...But...*
*Even if it's risky, he still should do it*
*If it's hostile, he can just kill it*
*It'll be better for it that sitting in that tube until the place is destroyed*
*919 sighs to calm himself...*
*...And pulls the lever.*
*Numbness was a strange feeling*
*Or would it be the lack of a feeling?*
*Either way, feeling numb was weird*
*It took away everything else, leaving nothing but a void*
*It felt lonely*
*It had been a while since they had felt anything else*
*Since they had felt*
*How long had they been in here?*
*How long had they felt nothing?*
*...Was it nothing?*
*If they focused, they could feel something*
*It felt... Wrong*
*They couldn't pinpoint it*
*But they knew something was wrong*
*Like they were in a body that wasn't theirs*
*Who were they?*
*What were they?*
*Were they alive?*
*Questions plaged their mind*
*There wasn't much else to do in this void of nothingness but try and answer*
*Until something changed*
*A bright light above them*
*A roaring flooded their fins*
*They could feel again*
*The numbness was fading*
*The light grew, lowering*
*It soon passed their eyes, showing the world to them*
*The world was grey*
*Colorless*
*Except for one thing*
*A person*
*They were covering their eyes, looking away from them*
*The light was lowering*
*Or... It seemed more like the void was lowering*
*The endless abyss they had been downing in*
*The roaring stopped*
*They looked down*
*There was no void*
*They heard the sound of the glass around them sliding*
*Something pushed them forward*
*They twisted, and landed on their back, pausing before taking a deep breath*
*They focused on the feeling of their lungs expanding and contracting*
*After a moment, they tried to move*
*A new feeling spread throughout their body*
*This one was unwelcomed, however*
*It hurts*
*IT HURTS*
*They slammed their eyes shut, and screeched*
*Their voice was scratchy and hurting, like it was coming from mangled vocal cords*
*Their screech was clearly inhuman, but not far off*
*Their throat was burning*
*They screamed for another few seconds, before a wave of another feeling shot through them*
*They felt tired*
*Their screams quieted, before ending entirely*
*The pain was still there, but they felt too tired to scream*
*They risked opening their eyes*
*They saw the stranger, eyes blown wide before slamming shut*
*They looked scared*
*They was sure they matched it*
*Their thoughts slowed, the lethargy taking them back to a void*
*They were too tired to fight it*
*They shut their eyes, and hoped they would open again*
*919 looked at the mutant*
*He could understand the pain the poor guy was going through*
*He'd gone through something similar*
*But one thing stuck out to him*
*They weren't hostile*
*They clearly saw him, but they didn't even try to attack him*
*They probably needed a place to stay, and to be helped*
*919 sighed*
*He really is somewhat becoming a medic for the mutants*
*The familiar sound of flesh tearing apart barely registered in his ears, as his tentacles went to pick up the mutant*
*...More hesitation*
*919 looked back at the goggles and mask*
*Slowly, he put the goggles over the creature's eyes, carefully avoiding the crystals*
"It's just so you don't accidentally hurt me."
*919 looked at the mask and stopped*
*...He'll just wear his*
*He picked up the mask, carrying it with him, but not putting it on the mutant*
*He turned, and began the walk back to his hideout, gently holding the mutant*
*Several hours later, they slowly began to wake up, their thoughts still slowed*
*Where..?*
*What's happening..?*
*They could feel something soft below them, and instinctually nestled into it*
*Soft...*
*They started feeling more, sensations they half-remembered*
*They had something soft wrapped around parts of their chest*
*The word bandages came to mind*
*They could feel something hard around their eyes*
*Goggles....*
*Something else soft lay on top of them, layering over their body but leaving the head exposed*
*After a few minutes of enjoying the softness surrounding them, they decided to slowly open their eyes*
*The room they were in was different*
*The roof was strangely black, with beautiful white specks decorating it*
*They looked a bit like stars*
*They looked to their right, seeing a white and green box labelled First Aid*
*After a couple of seconds lying down, They decide to see if they can move*
*Once they start moving their limbs, though, a clattering can be heard towards their feet*
"You're awake!"
*They looked at the voice, propping themself up on their elbows*
*It was the stranger from before, be they were no longer looking away*
*They looked mostly human, but with a few differences*
*They had a large blue ring around their right eye, which was a matching unusual blue*
*They had two large splotches of what looked like decay on their chin*
*Are... Are they okay?*
*They look like they're rotting*
*They opened their mouth, and tried to speak*
*...But they couldn't form words*
*Their throat burned, and the stranger tensed, eyes blowing wider, before looking remorseful*
"Please... stop trying to speak."
"It... it sounds like you can't."
"And I'll be honest, it brings back bad memories."
*Oh.*
*That makes sense*
*They decide not to try to speak again*
*But how would they communicate?*
*An idea enters their head*
*One that they don't know why they thought of it*
[It was like someone whispered it in their ear]
*They tried to open the strangers mind, and talk there*
<Can you hear me?>
*The stranger jumped, surprised*
"Y-yeah, I can hear you."
*They sighed in relief that they can communicate*
<Who are you?>
"My name's 919."
<The number?>
"Yeah. I was an expendable sent down here to snatch the crystal powering this place."
*Expendable?*
*Someone was sending people to... wherever this place is to take some crystal?*
*And if they're sending expendable people...*
<...How dangerous is this place?>
*919 looked away*
"Very."
"Given how the crystals still here after... I think close to a month? Not fully sure. Anyways, since none of the expendables have gotten the crystal yet, and Urbanshade's constantly sending them down, I'd say this place is kinda dangerous."
*Urbanshade?*
*Something about that name irritated them*
"Oh! Yeah, that's probably something I should tell you."
*The anger faded quickly, replaced by interest*
<What?>
*...F*ck, how was he gonna tell them*
"Urbanshade does a good bit of human experimentation."
"We both are victims of them."
*919 was concerned they would take this badly*
*The voice in his brain was silent for a while, before finally speaking again*
<Are you okay?>
*...What?*
"You... What?"
<Are you okay?>
*919 was confused*
*Why would this mutant who just learned about what happened to them care more about him?*
"Why do you care?"
<You have been down here having to deal with whatever they did to you for far longer.>
<And... I have this... Kind of gut feeling that you aren't taking it as well as you seem too be.>
*...*
"I..."
*He looked away*
"I'm fine."
<You don't seem to be.>
"It doesn't matter how I feel, you're the one who's worldview should've just been shattered!"
*The mutant shrugged*
<I have bigger problems honestly. Such as how I don't know a lot of important information right now.>
*Don't know what important information?*
"Like what?"
*The mutant looked away, and a grey gas begins to fill the room, replacing the calming blue gas*
*919 started at the gas, debating on what to do, when the mutant began to speak again*
<Who I am, where I'm from, what I am, what I used to be. Things like that.>
<I don't know what to do, quite honestly.>
*The gas reached 919, is emotional effects causing him to feel somber*
"There's something else I need to tell you."
<What is it?>
"One of your mutations is that you breathe out a gas that causes people who breathe it to feel whatever emotion you're feeling."
<...I see.>
<Is there a way around it?>
*919 nodded, showing the mutant the mask*
"The scientists made this to counter it. I didn't put it on you because it's up to you if you want to wear it or not."
<Oh! Well... Thank you!>
<It's okay, I'll wear it.>
*919 passed the mask to the mutant, letting them put it on*
"I... I did put the goggles on so that you won't accidentally kill me while I bandaged you."
<Kill you?>
"Yeah. You got DNA they makes you melt brains when you make eye contact with people."
<...I... Why do they have that!?>
*919 shrugged*
"Honestly, I think they're throwin sh*t at a wall to see what happens."
<Well... Is there anything else I should know?>
*919 nodded, and handed the mutant their file*
"This is what the scientists did to you, all I did was bandage some injuries on your chest."
*Oddly, they were less upset than they expected after reading the file*
*They actually felt somewhat glad to know something about why they were experimented on*
<Okay...>
<I do have some questions.>
*919 shifted, sitting down*
"I'll answer what I can."
<What are these numbers?>
"Those are the other creatures here. Not all of us were human, some of us are just ."
<Who's Z-2?>
*919 notably tensed, before sighing*
"Z-2 is the crystal powering this place. I think I heard a rumor that it's a bone from Thor or somethin, but I'm not sure."
<You mentioned the crystal earlier.>
"It's the most important thing down here. If the expendable get it, we're f*cked."
*They could see how bad it'd be*
<What about these other creatures?>
*After a few minutes of exposition about the creatures, They understood what DNA had been added to them*
*One thing 919 had mentioned stuck out to them, though*
<You said Eyefestation could look into someone's memories, right?>
"Yeah?"
<I wonder if I can do that?>
*919 stilled, before nodding*
"Wouldn't hurt to check."
*They looked at him for a moment, and feel... something*
*It's like a tug, in a way*
*Like they're being guided to something*
*They open their eyes*
*They aren't in 919's hideout anymore*
*They see a brick wall surrounding them*
*Behind them, they can hear the sound of crying, barely audible over the sounds of approaching police sirens*
*They brace themself for what they might see, and turn*
*They see a large shape*
*After a moment they realize what it is*
*Bodies*
*A mountain of bodies*
*A majority of them are dressed in the same outfit*
*Blue-grey clothes, with diving gear on their backs*
*The same outfit 919 is wearing*
*The outfit for expendables*
*Some of them, however, are wearing things like t-shirts and shorts*
*Civilian clothes*
*...oh no*
*Desperate for answers, They looked at the top of the pile*
*They see what looks to be 919, but... wrong*
*He looks twisted and monstrous, with large blood-stained claws*
*On his face, he is wearing a smiling theatre mask*
*Even with the mask hiding his face, it's still clear he's the one crying*
*Surrounding him, there are 5 figures*
*Two of them are blurry, as if only vague ideas*
*The other 3 are wearing the same expendable outfit as 919 and most of the bodies*
*The three expendables, a man and two women, are covered in gruesome wounds*
*The man looks to have been shredded to bits by bullets, leaving little but a bloody mess*
*One of the women has a large bloody cuts, almost like stab wounds, all over her torso, with another one on her neck that is bleeding profusely*
*Behind 919, the other woman looks the least injured, yet still gruesomely harmed, having blood pouring from her eyes and ears*
*They don't question for a second if these people are still alive*
*The wall behind 919 is covered in blood, writing multiple phrases, such as "Murderer," "Are you happy?," and "Do you enjoy hurting people?" surrounding a central quote, all written in blood*
*The central quote is somewhat hidden behind 919 and written in blood that seems to have dried, likely being old*
*"Raised a monster"*
*Oddly enough, one of the messages appears to be fresher than the rest, still dripping*
*"Will you hurt them too?"*
*They can feel their heart rate begin to quicken when they realize who the message is about, as they are forcefully ejected from the scene and back to reality*

[The predator mentioned]
The predator's tail lashes back and forth as the creature in the gas mask approaches, glowing orange eyes flicking around the room, cataloguing possible escape routes if this encounter turns ugly. "...Hello?" Lux's wings and frills fan out, the otter mutant attempting to make themselves look bigger and more threatening in case the newcomer is an enemy.
*A voice rings out inside Lux's head*
<Hello.>
*The mutant's voice(?) is calm, though an underlying feeling of excitement is barely noticeable*
<Who are you?>
*The mutant's eyes shift to Lux's collar*
*The two small lights on the mutant doctor's gas mask change from a light blue to an equally light red*
Lux steps back as the lights on the other mutant's gas mask change in color, not knowing what that change means. If it's anything like the changes in their own glow, though...it's probably not a good thing. "...I'm...Lux. And you are?"
*The mutant pauses, realizing how they look to others*
<Don't worry, I am also against urbanshade.>
<My name is Click.>
<I think 19's mentioned you before.>
Lux cocks their head to the side. "19? You mean 919? You know him too?" A smile spreads across the otter mutant's face at the mention of one of the few beings down in this watery hellhole that they genuinely consider a friend.
*The yellow fills the lights on their mask, and they sound excited and happy*
<I do!>
<The two of us are roomates, actually!>
"Roommates, huh?" The luminous orange glow emitting from all across Lux's body pulsates, fading to a sunny shade of yellow to match the light of Click's mask. "Glad to hear he's got other people looking out for him."
<Yeah...>
*A slow pause, the same thought in both of the mutant's heads*
He needs it.
<Anyway!>
<How did you meet him?>
"Chance encounter, really- he was walking by the vent I was in, and I decided to poke my head out and take a look-" The otter mutant chuckles a bit, a warm smile coming across their snout. "That day was one of the best days of...well, of what little of my life I can remember."
<I am glad he made your day better.>
*A somber note, as colorless gray specs appear in Click's lights*
<I... I can understand memory problems.>
<Yes.>
<It's... Honestly not that long of a story.>
Lux cocks their head to the side, sitting back on their haunches. "A...story?"
<I've only woken up recently.>
<Maybe... 2-3 days ago.>
<I... don't remember much before then.>
Lux's glowing eyes widen with surprise as their frills fan out to the sides of their head. "...Wow. And...you say you don't remember much...just how little do you remember?"
<Practically nothing.>
<It's all just... ideas.>
<I know things, but I can't remember how and where I learned them.>
*They bring one of their hands up to their face, hiding their eyes from Lux as they shift the goggles up to wipe away tears*
<And eventually, even those stop.>
<The only clue I have for why I'm here is my file.>
<I don't even have my own name.>
"Oh..." Lux's frills flatten against the sides of their head. "...I can relate. I...I can't remember my real name, or even what I used to look like." The otter mutant's tail droops downwards.
*Click turns towards Lux*
<I'm sorry this all happened to you, Lux.>
<You don't deserve this.>
Lux just stares at Click for a moment, before giving a small, shaky nod. "...Thank you." (But you do deserve this, vessel. This is what you were always meant to be.)
<You're w-...>
<Who is he?>
<The crystal? What's so special about it?>
*A small bit of red begins to glow in their mask lights*
*Wait*
<Did urbanshade make me a demigod!?>
<I can see why it's called a 'god complex'.>
<Anyways. What were we talking about, Lux?>
Lux chuckles, nodding at Click. "Uh...memory issues, I think- I'd rather not really talk about those much more, though..." Lux shakes their head. "So- have you seen anything interesting down here? I've found a couple cool things in the Heavy Containment rooms-" Lux may despise that place for the years they were confined there, but they've gotta admit that some of the trinkets they've found around the cells were pretty cool-
<I can understand that.>
*Click thought for a moment, tapping one of their 3 fingered hands on their mask*
*A small bracelet that looked like it was made of scrap, yet still shiny, sits on their wrist*
<A few of the things in heavy containment were pretty cool, plus some of the things 19 collected.>

"..." Lux stiffens, as their eyes widen, a pale shade of pink tinging the luminous orange glow emitting from the otter mutant's body. "You...you can hear him?" (Of course he can. Don't you see the crystal atop his head? Don't be stupid, Vessel.)
<Who is he?>
<The crystal? What's so special about it?>
*A small bit of red begins to glow in their mask lights*
*Wait*
<Did urbanshade make me a demigod!?>
<I mean, that explains why you seem to be recognizing something, Maledict.>
<I assume you are some form of god?>
TURNING OFF ASKS
Cause of the gore raid
[Here too]
A meeting
*919 looked at the large tube in front of him*
*He'd seen tubes like it before, so this one didn't catch his eye at first*
*Until he noticed a shadow*
*There was a blurry shadow, inside the tube*
*919 questioned what it was, until it clicked*
*It's a person*
*Another experiment*
*They looked humanoid, so they might've once been human*
*What happened to them?*
*919 looked at the desk next to the tube for answers*
*Inside the top drawer, there was a file labelled "The Traitor" next to a pair of red and black goggles and a matching black gas mask*
*...So they were definately a human*
*919 opened the file, reading it*
*A few minutes later, 919 looked at the creature, feeling some level of pity*
*A whistleblower, someone who tried to reveal what Urbanshade really is*
*But they failed*
*919 looked at the drawer again, seeing the mask and goggles differently, now that he knew their purpose*
*919 looked at the tube again, noticing something he hadn't seen before*
*[Almost like his eyes were drawn to it]*
*A lever labelled "Release"*
*919 could figure out what it did*
*919 reached an arm out, before hesitating*
*What if they're feral?*
*Most of the DNA from their file is*
*Maybe they will attack?*
*...But...*
*Even if it's risky, he still should do it*
*If it's hostile, he can just kill it*
*It'll be better for it that sitting in that tube until the place is destroyed*
*919 sighs to calm himself...*
*...And pulls the lever.*
*Numbness was a strange feeling*
*Or would it be the lack of a feeling?*
*Either way, feeling numb was weird*
*It took away everything else, leaving nothing but a void*
*It felt lonely*
*It had been a while since they had felt anything else*
*Since they had felt*
*How long had they been in here?*
*How long had they felt nothing?*
*...Was it nothing?*
*If they focused, they could feel something*
*It felt... Wrong*
*They couldn't pinpoint it*
*But they knew something was wrong*
*Like they were in a body that wasn't theirs*
*Who were they?*
*What were they?*
*Were they alive?*
*Questions plaged their mind*
*There wasn't much else to do in this void of nothingness but try and answer*
*Until something changed*
*A bright light above them*
*A roaring flooded their fins*
*They could feel again*
*The numbness was fading*
*The light grew, lowering*
*It soon passed their eyes, showing the world to them*
*The world was grey*
*Colorless*
*Except for one thing*
*A person*
*They were covering their eyes, looking away from them*
*The light was lowering*
*Or... It seemed more like the void was lowering*
*The endless abyss they had been downing in*
*The roaring stopped*
*They looked down*
*There was no void*
*They heard the sound of the glass around them sliding*
*Something pushed them forward*
*They twisted, and landed on their back, pausing before taking a deep breath*
*They focused on the feeling of their lungs expanding and contracting*
*After a moment, they tried to move*
*A new feeling spread throughout their body*
*This one was unwelcomed, however*
*It hurts*
*IT HURTS*
*They slammed their eyes shut, and screeched*
*Their voice was scratchy and hurting, like it was coming from mangled vocal cords*
*Their screech was clearly inhuman, but not far off*
*Their throat was burning*
*They screamed for another few seconds, before a wave of another feeling shot through them*
*They felt tired*
*Their screams quieted, before ending entirely*
*The pain was still there, but they felt too tired to scream*
*They risked opening their eyes*
*They saw the stranger, eyes blown wide before slamming shut*
*They looked scared*
*They was sure they matched it*
*Their thoughts slowed, the lethargy taking them back to a void*
*They were too tired to fight it*
*They shut their eyes, and hoped they would open again*
*919 looked at the mutant*
*He could understand the pain the poor guy was going through*
*He'd gone through something similar*
*But one thing stuck out to him*
*They weren't hostile*
*They clearly saw him, but they didn't even try to attack him*
*They probably needed a place to stay, and to be helped*
*919 sighed*
*He really is somewhat becoming a medic for the mutants*
*The familiar sound of flesh tearing apart barely registered in his ears, as his tentacles went to pick up the mutant*
*...More hesitation*
*919 looked back at the goggles and mask*
*Slowly, he put the goggles over the creature's eyes, carefully avoiding the crystals*
"It's just so you don't accidentally hurt me."
*919 looked at the mask and stopped*
*...He'll just wear his*
*He picked up the mask, carrying it with him, but not putting it on the mutant*
*He turned, and began the walk back to his hideout, gently holding the mutant*
*Several hours later, they slowly began to wake up, their thoughts still slowed*
*Where..?*
*What's happening..?*
*They could feel something soft below them, and instinctually nestled into it*
*Soft...*
*They started feeling more, sensations they half-remembered*
*They had something soft wrapped around parts of their chest*
*The word bandages came to mind*
*They could feel something hard around their eyes*
*Goggles....*
*Something else soft lay on top of them, layering over their body but leaving the head exposed*
*After a few minutes of enjoying the softness surrounding them, they decided to slowly open their eyes*
*The room they were in was different*
*The roof was strangely black, with beautiful white specks decorating it*
*They looked a bit like stars*
*They looked to their right, seeing a white and green box labelled First Aid*
*After a couple of seconds lying down, They decide to see if they can move*
*Once they start moving their limbs, though, a clattering can be heard towards their feet*
"You're awake!"
*They looked at the voice, propping themself up on their elbows*
*It was the stranger from before, be they were no longer looking away*
*They looked mostly human, but with a few differences*
*They had a large blue ring around their right eye, which was a matching unusual blue*
*They had two large splotches of what looked like decay on their chin*
*Are... Are they okay?*
*They look like they're rotting*
*They opened their mouth, and tried to speak*
*...But they couldn't form words*
*Their throat burned, and the stranger tensed, eyes blowing wider, before looking remorseful*
"Please... stop trying to speak."
"It... it sounds like you can't."
"And I'll be honest, it brings back bad memories."
*Oh.*
*That makes sense*
*They decide not to try to speak again*
*But how would they communicate?*
*An idea enters their head*
*One that they don't know why they thought of it*
[It was like someone whispered it in their ear]
*They tried to open the strangers mind, and talk there*
<Can you hear me?>
*The stranger jumped, surprised*
"Y-yeah, I can hear you."
*They sighed in relief that they can communicate*
<Who are you?>
"My name's 919."
<The number?>
<What?>

<Hello.>
*The mutant's voice(?) is calm, though an underlying feeling of excitement is barely noticeable*
<Who are you?>
*The mutant's eyes shift to Lux's collar*
*The two small lights on the mutant doctor's gas mask change from a light blue to an equally light red*
Lux steps back as the lights on the other mutant's gas mask change in color, not knowing what that change means. If it's anything like the changes in their own glow, though...it's probably not a good thing. "...I'm...Lux. And you are?"
*The mutant pauses, realizing how they look to others*
<Don't worry, I am also against urbanshade.>
<My name is Click.>
<I think 19's mentioned you before.>
Lux cocks their head to the side. "19? You mean 919? You know him too?" A smile spreads across the otter mutant's face at the mention of one of the few beings down in this watery hellhole that they genuinely consider a friend.
*The yellow fills the lights on their mask, and they sound excited and happy*
<I do!>
<The two of us are roomates, actually!>
"Roommates, huh?" The luminous orange glow emitting from all across Lux's body pulsates, fading to a sunny shade of yellow to match the light of Click's mask. "Glad to hear he's got other people looking out for him."
<Yeah...>
*A slow pause, the same thought in both of the mutant's heads*
He needs it.
<Anyway!>
<How did you meet him?>
"Chance encounter, really- he was walking by the vent I was in, and I decided to poke my head out and take a look-" The otter mutant chuckles a bit, a warm smile coming across their snout. "That day was one of the best days of...well, of what little of my life I can remember."
<I am glad he made your day better.>
*A somber note, as colorless gray specs appear in Click's lights*
<I... I can understand memory problems.>
<Yes.>
<It's... Honestly not that long of a story.>
Lux cocks their head to the side, sitting back on their haunches. "A...story?"
<I've only woken up recently.>
<Maybe... 2-3 days ago.>
<I... don't remember much before then.>
Lux's glowing eyes widen with surprise as their frills fan out to the sides of their head. "...Wow. And...you say you don't remember much...just how little do you remember?"
<Practically nothing.>
<It's all just... ideas.>
<I know things, but I can't remember how and where I learned them.>
*They bring one of their hands up to their face, hiding their eyes from Lux as they shift the goggles up to wipe away tears*
<And eventually, even those stop.>
<The only clue I have for why I'm here is my file.>
<I don't even have my own name.>
"Oh..." Lux's frills flatten against the sides of their head. "...I can relate. I...I can't remember my real name, or even what I used to look like." The otter mutant's tail droops downwards.
*Click turns towards Lux*
<I'm sorry this all happened to you, Lux.>
<You don't deserve this.>
Lux just stares at Click for a moment, before giving a small, shaky nod. "...Thank you." (But you do deserve this, vessel. This is what you were always meant to be.)
<You're w-...>

"...Do you ever miss something without actually knowing what it is you miss?" Lux's light dims further, the luminous orange now tinged with a pale crimson as their finned tail droops downwards.
*Click sighs, sitting down cross-legged*
*Their mask lights are fully a somber grey*
<Yes.>
<It's... Honestly not that long of a story.>
Lux cocks their head to the side, sitting back on their haunches. "A...story?"
<I've only woken up recently.>
<Maybe... 2-3 days ago.>
<I... don't remember much before then.>
Lux's glowing eyes widen with surprise as their frills fan out to the sides of their head. "...Wow. And...you say you don't remember much...just how little do you remember?"
<Practically nothing.>
<It's all just... ideas.>
<I know things, but I can't remember how and where I learned them.>
*They bring one of their hands up to their face, hiding their eyes from Lux as they shift the goggles up to wipe away tears*
<And eventually, even those stop.>
<The only clue I have for why I'm here is my file.>
<I don't even have my own name.>
"Oh..." Lux's frills flatten against the sides of their head. "...I can relate. I...I can't remember my real name, or even what I used to look like." The otter mutant's tail droops downwards.
*Click turns towards Lux*
<I'm sorry this all happened to you, Lux.>
<You don't deserve this.>
[The predator stared at the approaching creature]
[The lab coat and dark red goggles put them on edge]
[The creature's gas mask hiding their lower face did nothing to put the predator at ease]
[The creature's tan fins wiggled in interest at the predator, as a hiss came from the mask]
[The predator's distrust was only rivaled by their interest]
@blacksites-apex-predator
<Hello.>
*The mutant's voice(?) is calm, though an underlying feeling of excitement is barely noticeable*
<Who are you?>
*The mutant's eyes shift to Lux's collar*
*The two small lights on the mutant doctor's gas mask change from a light blue to an equally light red*
Lux steps back as the lights on the other mutant's gas mask change in color, not knowing what that change means. If it's anything like the changes in their own glow, though...it's probably not a good thing. "...I'm...Lux. And you are?"
*The mutant pauses, realizing how they look to others*
<Don't worry, I am also against urbanshade.>
<My name is Click.>
<I think 19's mentioned you before.>
Lux cocks their head to the side. "19? You mean 919? You know him too?" A smile spreads across the otter mutant's face at the mention of one of the few beings down in this watery hellhole that they genuinely consider a friend.
*The yellow fills the lights on their mask, and they sound excited and happy*
<I do!>
<The two of us are roomates, actually!>
"Roommates, huh?" The luminous orange glow emitting from all across Lux's body pulsates, fading to a sunny shade of yellow to match the light of Click's mask. "Glad to hear he's got other people looking out for him."
<Yeah...>
*A slow pause, the same thought in both of the mutant's heads*
He needs it.
<Anyway!>
<How did you meet him?>
"Chance encounter, really- he was walking by the vent I was in, and I decided to poke my head out and take a look-" The otter mutant chuckles a bit, a warm smile coming across their snout. "That day was one of the best days of...well, of what little of my life I can remember."
<I am glad he made your day better.>
*A somber note, as colorless gray specs appear in Click's lights*
<I... I can understand memory problems.>
Lux looks away for a moment, the light emitting from all across their body dimming. "...Can I ask you something?"
*The grey is gone, the lights having returned to a calm blue*
<Sure! What do you want to know?>
