Do you remember being held, holding on or reaching out, do you remember breath and lungs that felt full? Remember long drives with windows down, remember falling asleep in one city and waking up in another, do you remember exploration? Remember the grackles in the Texas trees, the bats under the bridges? Remember the swallows over the lakes, remember the sea birds calling? Do you remember the walks under the grandfather moss, the hunt for sea glass on shoreline, the ruins of some castle eroding into surf? Do you remember conversations spanning hours, soundtracks of coffee spoons in coffee cups and steam from milk frothing, do you remember hands on skin and arms tight like rope around the core of us? What of shoulders that hold our heads when our eyes can’t hold their water, what of consoling, what of a cuddle under a blanket on some evening of cool air and late darkness? What of holding, what of being held? Do you remember what hands are for beyond the washing of them, do you remember touch, and do you remember tenderness?
