Never Can Say Goodbye ||
Charice: tucked the carefully folded blanket under her arm as she made her way to Sam's door. She would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous. She had hurt a person who was her family and not even that, she had pushed him away when he needed support most. He had shown her countless times that he was on her side, even when she wasn't sure she deserved it and in the moment when he needed her, she condemned him. Chalice reached up to ring the doorbell and took a step back, hoping and praying that Sam would forgive her.
Sam: had been working on the babies room for about two weeks now and he was so happy to say that he was happy that he was almost done with it. Sure he could have turned any of the 5 bedrooms that he had into a nursery. But he wanted his baby to be as close as possible. So if that meant knocking down some walls and putting his clothes some where else. He was gonna do it. He sighed softly as he put the crib closer to the wall thinking about Charice coming over. If he was honest he really didn't feel like arguing with her again or hearing how awful Alyssa was. But he felt like he would regret it if he didn't at least talk to her before she left. He was brought out of his thoughts at the sound of the door bell. "Ugh please let this go right." he prayed jogging out of the room and down the long stairs. He walked toward the door to open it. "Hi" he said softly with a small smile. Even though he wasn't happy with her, he couldn't find it in his heart to show it. "Come in.. I'm just getting ready to fold the baby's clothes and put it in his dresser." he mentioned as he lead her up the stairs into the room.
Charice smiled when Sam opened the door. He could have easily ignored her or told her off as soon as seeing her but instead, he was still warm and let her in. She followed him up the stairs to the baby’s room and let out a low whistle. “Wow, you really did a lot of work,” she said looking around. “You’re really dedicated to making this house a home for that baby.” She placed the gift bag down and sighed. It was better to rip the bandaid off now than wait. “Sam you know I don’t like apologizing or admitting when I’m wrong but the other night… I was wrong. You told us about the baby and all I could think was how disappointed I was but your grown ass man. You’ve put in the work to be as stable as you are now and instead of supporting you I kicked you out. I’m sorry.” She handed him the bag with a small smile. “I have no doubt in my mind you’re going to be an amazing father. You have my full support and when that baby gets here, I’m gonna spoil it rotten just like you do my kids. Because you’re a good uncle. And an amazing brother even when his sister is a petty bitch,” she smirked. “It’s a baby blanket. I had it made with hypoallergenic wool. Wyatt always hated the wool blankets because of allergies.”
Sam: admired his own work as charice complimented him on how hard he worked on the baby’s room “Thanks.. I have to be honest I had help from Chris and Santana.” he admitted turning to face her when she started apologizing. If he was honest he wanted to rip her a new one again. But as she continued to speak he didn’t have the heart to do it. Because she was right he knew how hard it is for her to apologize or even say that she was wrong. He smiled softly when she handed him the bag. He smiled even more as she told him how she thought he would be an amazing father. It really felt good to hear her say that because he really has his doubt on what kind of father he was gonna be. And it made him feel good to hear his family tell him he was gonna be a good dad. He opened the gift to see that it was a blanket. “Wow… this is” he chuckled trying his best not to be a cry baby. “This is beautiful Charice.. Thank you sis..” he said, putting the stuff down before giving her a big hug. “This means so much to me..” he sighed, pulling away from her. “I’m not gonna lie, I wanted to yell at you.. It really hurt me when you kicked me out…I knew you wouldn’t be happy just because of Alyssa… But I just thought you would have at least supported me..” he said honestly. “But I appreciate you swallowing your pride and coming to see me.. Before you leave me..” he said sadly. “Even though I appreciate your apology. But please don’t call yourself a bitch.. You’re not a bitch.. You were just upset .What I did was irresponsible…” he said honestly looking around the room to smile at the crib. “But as irresponsible it was.. I feel blessed…. I’m having a son that I didn’t know I would ever have. It may not be with the person I thought it would be with. But it’s okay. Things happen.. I’m gonna make the best of what it is..”
Charice smiled into the hug and squeezed him tightly. "You're welcome." She nodded, knowing that she deserved whatever he'd wanted to do or say to her. She'd been cruel and mean when he'd needed support. "Aww Sammy, I was a bitch," she snorted. "But it's okay because I know that you'll love me regardless. That's what family does." She raised an eyebrow at his pride and nodded her head. "Yeah. Hell I always thought you and Cedes would pop a few light skin babies out."
Sam: chuckled a little at her comment about being a bitch. “Well you’re right I’m always gonna love you! Even if you are annoying” he teased, pushing her playfully. He went to sit on the stool in front of the rocking chair. He sadly smiled at the thought of Mercedes and him having a child together. Even though they both decided they didn’t want children, he couldn’t help but think of what it would be like. He continues to picture a curly head little boy or girl with Mercedes' beautiful eyes and his trouty mouth. He chuckled at the thought because quickly clearing his throat “yeah… Well God had other plans. I guess. But it's okay..” he chuckled letting out a small cough. Besides.. We both moved on and she is happy with her beautiful girlfriend.. So..” he sighed.
Charice watched as he mulled over the idea of him and Mercedes hypothetically children. She narrowed her eyes in suspicion at the smile that crossed his face. She knew that whatever they had was long gone but with the way Sam was talking, she had a sneaky feeling that it wasn’t as gone as he thought. She opened her mouth to call it out but stopped herself. If Sam wasn’t ready to admit what she found so obvious, then she wouldn’t force him. He would have to come to his own conclusion about Mercedes whether he liked it or not and all she could do was hope that no one got hurt. “Yeah she is. But hey life can throw a fast ball at us. I mean I never thought I’d get back with Dylan. But life had other plans. I guess just don’t ignore the signs when they show up,” she winked before taking a seat against the wall. “So tell me… you thought about baby names yet?”
Sam: chuckled at the memory of Charice and Dylan’s love story. Don’t get him wrong, it wasn't an easy road for Charice or Dylan. It even got ugly at times to the point that he didn’t even think they would be able to co parent. But here they are married AGAIN and moving back to Paris to start their life over with their kids. But he didn’t really think it could happen to him and Mercedes. Could it?! He shook off the thought, waving it off. “As happy as I am that you and my dumb brother are back together. I doubt that is gonna happen with Cedes and I. and I’m honestly okay with that. “ he shrugged. “Who knows, Marley might come back and wanna work things out,” he said, trying not to wince at the thought. When Charice asked about if he had come up with baby names he got excited. “Oh yeah! I have come up with a lot of baby names. I haven’t shared it with Alyssa yet… BUT I’ll tell you!” he said, grabbing the list out of his pocket. “So.. I thought about Harry Style Evans, Liam Delware Evans, Sebastian Bach Evans” he said looking up at her. “What do you think so far?”
Charice nodded. “I mean what if it did?” She asked. “I’m not trying to put anything out there and I like her lil girlfriend but I’m just saying. Don’t put a period where god put a comma.” She rolled her eyes at the mention of Marley. It wasn’t that she didn’t like her, in fact she actually liked the younger woman but she knew in her bones that her and Sam were not the right match. “Please don’t tell me you’re holding out for Marley?” She listened as he listed off the potential names and cocked her head to the side hoping he was joking. “Boy I know you’re not about to name your child after one of them one direction boys,” she laughed.
Charice shook his head, he knew that she was right. That things can change in an insistent and nobody knows what God truly has plans for them until it happens. But he couldn't allow himself to think about it because it wouldn't end good. "Listen it took me forever to let go of Mercedes. Hence what happened at my wedding. .I can't think about the thought of her and I getting back together. because it will just ruin the friendship that we worked soooo hard to rebuild.. Besides. Mercedes don't want kids. I'm having a kid. So that's it on that." he shrugged. Sam knew from the way Charice looked at him that she didn't really like some of the names. "Hey! Harry Styles is the king of pop! Okay?! I would be honored for my son to be named after him" he pouted with a sigh. "honestly I thought about naming him Daniel Richard Evans or Theodore Richard Evans" he said softly "I wanted something with my Richa-I mean Dad's name in it.. But..." he trailed off.
Charice raised her hands in surrender. “Hey my lips are sealed. But I am proud of you two for at least figuring out how to be friends. I know you mean a lot to her,” she smiled. She scooted over to where Sam was seated and placed a hand on his knee. “I think naming him after Richard would be amazing. He’s the best dad I’ve ever had. It only means your son would turn out just as good as him.”
Sam: smiled softly "She means a lot to me too. I'm very lucky to still have her in my life. " He said as he rubbed his knees. He nodded his head in agreement as Charice talked about how Richard was a good dad. Even though he was mad at his dad in the past he still loved him. and he realized that he was way to hard on him. "He is the best. I honestly would be me if it wasn't for him. It's because of him I feel like I can be a dad." he said honestly, placing his hand on top of Charice's. "and I can't wait to see my son with his grandfather. " he chuckled.
Charice smiled as Sam spoke about Richard. He really was a good man. He was patient, warm and loving. “It sounds like you need to talk to him,” she said giving him a knowing look.
Sam: took a deep breath and nodded at Charice’ suggestion “I know… I know! And you’re right. But I don’t know how to apologize for being such an ass. I guess when he started laughing about me saying I’m a dad. I thought that was his way of saying I wouldn’t be a good dad. But I know that he wasn’t saying that. He was just shocked.” He said softly “ I really miss him tho.. and what makes me feel worse. Is that he still calls me every dad at the same time. Telling me about his dad and asking me about the baby. Even telling me about good cars for people who have babies.”
Charice smiled softly. “He’s your father Sam. Being a parent means being there with open arms when your kids mess up. You don’t need to know how, he’ll listen regardless.” She chuckled a bit. “Look if you can forgive me for handling this news so badly, then give Richard a chance. He loves you and once Dylan and I leave it’ll be you here. He’s gonna need you. And that baby.”
Sam smiled softly nodding his head "Yeah he definitely has been there through all of my mess and Dylan's messes" he chuckled sadly at the memories. He sighed before letting out a whine. "I hate it when you're right.. But you're right.. You know honestly I think I was just in my feelings.. I knew deep down Dad didn't mean any ill will toward me... or the situation. I think I'm just scared and nervous... and I want this kid to have so much that I didn't have in a father when I was growing up." he said honestly. "But I promise.. I'll talk to to him." he said patting her leg. "Anyways! a little big head birdy told me that you and San are good! which makes me really happy.. I know she missed you dearly. She told me with her and Brittany barely speaking and Cedes always busy. She felt she didn't really have anyone but Alyssa." he said as he adjusted himself in the chair. "I don't know if its because she is getting older but San seems different.. Like she is more calmer and she is definitely more self a ware. Which I love that for her... " he softly chuckled. He stared at Charice for a little while before getting a little sad. He really was sad about them leaving. Don't get him wrong he was happy for them. Happy that they found each other again and happy that they were gonna start all over again as a family. But he couldn't lie he was gonna miss them all dearly. "I'm gonna miss you sis.. I know I can always come and see you and my loser Brother" he said with a chuckle "But it's not gonna be the same as driving down the road."
Charice smiled with pride. Sam was hard headed, just like her, but he knew when people were in his corner and Richard definitely was. "Big sisters are always right," she laughed, giving him a playful push. Her smile grew bigger at the mention of Santana. They'd only gotten back on track with their friendship a few days ago but it was like no time had passed at all. And while she was so excited to be leaving for Paris, she was going to miss being around regularly for everyone. "She really has grown up. I mean she had to. We all have." She could feel herself beginning to choke up and swallowed thickly. Even though Sam was making a joke, she couldnt help but grow serious. "Sam, I owe you a thanks. When I first met you, I thought you were some boring rich white boy who was obsessed with my cousin and now, you're my family. You've always been a good brother to me. Better than I deserved sometimes. So thank you. And if you don't come and visit me and Dylan before the year is over, I will kick your ass," she laughed, leaning over to give him a final hug.
