45 minutes outdoor skating today at our local hockey rink. Temp was 92 but heat index was 102. It was hot. Me and my 10 yr old couldn't take the heat today. Tomorrow is his first game. That rink has a structure overhead for shade. Can't wait to see him play!

Recording a demo tonight that my wife wrote the lyrics to. My bassist and I wrote the music. We recorded to GarageBand on my iphone providing a random drum track. Worked out well through the mixer and into GarageBand on my MacBook Pro. Finally got a great recording of those one. Looks like we are going to audition 2 drummers starting in 2 weeks. Going to send them this and see what both comes up with. Sounds fun!

It's been a long time

Went ice skating last night. First time in maybe 25 years. It was better than I thought it would be. A lot like roller blades but more fluid. 2 hours with small breaks. Lower back would start hurting a bit. Haven't skated even in my blades over a year now. I need to get back to doing this. Took the kids. Will picked it up very quickly. Jasmyn only using quad skates before had a good start and picked it up without a problem. My ankles were my biggest problem. Wobbly. Half way through I had to tighten my laces again due to support. I blame the rental skates. Looks like Monday me and Will are gonna go to the outdoor hockey rink for some skating fundamentals. Stopping and backwards skating.

Great practice last night

Played a few covers I haven't played since September. Humbles and reminds me really how much I should be playing everyday. Even if I'm unplugged away from the amp watching tv. Lol Wednesday night going to write in the round again and try for something completely new. Last few times spontaneous writing has benefitted us. "A touch of grace" and "Transmit homebox" we're two like this. Lets see what creative forces have in store for us. I played with more settings on my multi effects unit. I seriously want to get my real pedals setup again, but I'm using more one time effects like reverse delay that my pedals don't do. Ugh. Maybe run pedals and multi unit together. Not sure how that will really work. Might try it.

Drama Drama

The other day our drummer quit. That's all I'm gonna say and leave it there. lol I'm ready to start making progress with this band... goals... originals, we have a few. Demos, we have a few open air recordings that sound good enough we could pass as demos. Pro sounding release, we're working on. I'm def learning my bit of mic'ing drums and guitars and getting good sound from each and then applying post effects and eq. Learning the best way my band likes to record.... that wasn't what I expected. They liked to play and record all at same time... I'll have to work on that with them. Also I have noticed the importance of starting everything with a count in. This has to become better practice with me and us.

I have been unhappy with my recorded guitar tone, but I think I figured it out. I switched to the Normal channel on my bassman instead of the bright channel. I'm going to do a few tests like this and see how it sounds.

We talked with a replacement drummer last night. One I've played with before at church. He's a really talented guy super friendly! Sunday we're going to play over some covers and get the gel process started. I've also given him access to Dropbox folder that has all our demos in it for him to start learning his first original "Frailty".

I really want this to work out. I want to start selling song, merch and performing live!
