Took some more pics of Saturn! (I definitely ain’t no Hubble)
12:00 AM 8/2/24 (02.08.24)
Taken with 25mm and 9mm eyepieces with a 2x mag on some, using Celestron NextStar SE8
So I got a solar filter, here’s some crappy pics my guys (yeeee)
(Also the sun is white in the telescope, there is a color filter)
Hey everybody, been a while, but that’s not the point. Let’s get on to:
Fun space fact #7!
Saturns density is 0.69 g/cm^3, while water‘s density is 1 g/cm^3, and due to the laws of physics, this means that if there was a ocean big enough to fit it, Saturn would float!
Fun space fact #6: Due to Venus‘s stupidly long rotation along its axis, which is also rotating the other way compared to other planets, a full Venus year (224.7 Earth days) is longer than a full day (243 Earth days)
Fun space fact #5: The largest mountain in the solar system is on Mars, and it’s called Olympus Mons. Olympus Mons is a huge mountain that used to be a volcano, but is unfortunately inactive. Olympus Mons has a diameter of 624 km, which is insanely huge, and is almost the size of the entire US state of Arizona. It is also almost twice as tall as Mount Everest.
Below is a picture of Olympus Mons and Olympus Mons compared to Arizona.
Just got a new laser to look at stars and constellations with, I love it, old one brokey tho lol. Gonna go cut the moon in half now bye 💅
Fun space fact #4: Due to the rules placed by the astronomical union, there are only actually 8 planets in the whole universe.
This is because the rules say that, to be a planet, the body must orbit the sun. All other bodies that should be considered a planet are either rouge planets or exoplanets.
Have a good day.
Fun space fact: astronomers find rings on planets by tracking when its orbit crosses a star, and seeing when the rings pass over the star, creating a shadow.
Unless you can just see the planets rings normally, like Saturn.
Is cloudy out, me can’t take pictures :(
Really bright pic of Jupiter and three of the Galilean moons, the fourth one was visible but it was out of my telescope’s range. Imma try again soon when Jupiter is a little less bright. One on the right is in an orange telescope filter.
Fun space fact #2: Pluto actually has 5 moons, these are Charon, Styx, Nix, Kerberos, and Hydra; in that order.
Charon is the biggest moon, and is almost the same size as Pluto! This causes them to orbit around each other, creating a small barycenter. The other moons are very tiny, and would definitely be considered asteroids if they didn’t orbit Pluto.
Fun space fact: Asteroids can have moons and even rings!
Haumea is a good example of one that’s in our own solar system; while Haumea is technically not an asteroid, it is only twice the size, and is weirdly oblong, Haumea lies in the Kuiper Belt and has rings. Artist’s representation below
Edit: I forgot to mention, Haumea has 2 moons aswell! They are Namaka and Hi‘iaka.
Does anyone else just really love space? This looks so cool.
Shitty pic of saturn, cant do much bigger because i have a smaller personal telescope, but should i try again?
For those of you who weren’t able to get 100% of the total solar eclipse today… I gotchu <3
