Valjean just sat quietly, a steady presence while he waited for Jehan to calm in their own time. It was what he was typically good for, someone to simply be there.
He was a bit surprised at what they said when they finally spoke, unsure what to say for a moment and quickly trying to think of something.
"Whatever for?" he finally asked, frowning as he looked at them. As far as he knew they were a nice boy, nothing that would deserve being disowned for.
And the tears started again. Jehan felt so ashamed, crying in front of someone they barely knew, over something that was entirely their fault. They took deep breaths, trying to stop the tears from falling down their cheeks.
"Came out to them," they said softly. "I told them I'm not a boy. And that I like boys. They didn't like it. S-So they said they would think about it and eventually they must have done enough thinking and decided they didn't want me because I'm not the perfect son who would marry a girl that they wanted."
They practically spat their words, eyebrows furrowing. They were angry, they were sad, they were ashamed. They were feeling, and it was far too much for them right now.
