okay but glam (the CHARACTER, ykwya im not talking about you, dumbass 😭 get off my blog) is such a perfectly written example of disassociation after trauma. like a lot of media that attempts to make a character disassociate after trauma does so strangely, either too drastic or too subtle, and they fall into stereotypes and lose their sense of being. which, dont get me wrong, can and does happen, but i think the way they wrote glam is just perfect. while he was sebastian and stuck in that house, he wasn't quieter exactly, but he was almost smothered. he doesnt have the chance to say what he thinks without ridicule or even abuse. and sure, chives loudness did help him grow into a new person, but even as glam, with his own family, he still doesnt talk much. sure, he talks more, but he keeps his sentences brief and only really speaks to those he deems worth it. and when he opens the box you can just see it on his face that it effects him. it matters to him. he didnt abandon sebastian as completely as he thought he did, as entirely as he wanted to. he likes to think that he left that part of him, that scared lonely boy, behind, but he didnt. he carries him with him because he doesnt know how not to. because, at his core, thats still who he is. he's still that little boy that wants a family, one thats jarringly different from his blood. he still adores music, and takes his inspiration from that to alter his physical appearance into something he can stand to look at in the mirror. hes still fiercely loyal, still devastatingly clever and determined. he didnt lose any of himself, and he only truly changed on a physical level. he's disassociative but he isnt empty, not like so many disassociative characters are, and god if that isnt beautiful character writing idk what is
