Anyway the premise is that Mrs Beakley never managed to recover Webby from FOWL, and that FOWL decided to intervene more heavily with the Duck family to truly break Scrooge’s adventuring spirit by abdicating the triplets.
Bradford decided to keep Huey (renamed to August) as a back up heir to Webby (called April) since he was the oldest. The other two were taken by Dan Karnage’s sky pirates, but they lost Louie (who eventually started going by Lyn on the streets).
More Ducktails Separated AU? More likely than you’d think.
This time it’s June and May- in this AU, Heron went a little more ham, and created June and May shortly after April. One mishap lead to another, however, and eventually at around 2 years old May and June found their way into Daisy’s care. Daisy has been doing her best to raise them as her own and keep them out of FOWL’s grasp. I think Daisy used to work for FOWL in this au, which is how she got ahold of the girls in the first place.
Something something the oxygen meter going up and Simon somehow having enough air for days longer then he should and how the sub essentially becomes a part of Simon and how blood carries oxygen and what is the purpose of a real Iron lung anyways and iron is what carries oxygen in human blood after all and the blood trying to make him one with the ship because it was already breathing for him and the eldritch forces genuinely can't understand why he's still fighting to maintain his autonomy and sense of self in the face of something so much bigger than him, when it would just be so much easier and less painful to allow himself to be subsumed
Something about the indomitable human spirit in the face of something that's so incomprehensible that it can make metal breathe for you
I think Iron Lung deserves to be Oscar nominated for the makeup and I'm completely serious. Tiny splashes of blood he didn't know to clean off because he doesn't have a mirror slowly turn into burns and then holes in Simon's head and you don't notice at all until it's too late. You think, oh, that must have been a burn all along, I guess, that's why it was still there. The bandages get bloodied, and then bloodier from the inside. Keeping makeup like that consistent at all is already a nightmare and they made it an arching plot point. The only makeup job I didn't care for was at the very, very end, and it's for the usual "building on top of because you can't take away from the surface" reasons, it's completely fine from this size production.
You guys ever think about the glass pendant of the leaf Simon wraps around his left wrist, as an emotional support pendant and a symbol of Eden (the fellow Eden "brother" who left it in the ship, a ginkgo leaf-shaped plant representative of the Tree, etc.) despite the clear distaste he has for what Eden as a collective has done re: Filament Station/his tattoo/etc.
You ever think about when he transitions into the fever dream of waking up in the blood ocean, his left wrist keeps him chained to something deep within the ocean even when he wants to escape.
A shackle you find comfort in. Simon and the familiarity of the cult that raised him even when they betrayed him. Eden and the belief of the Tree even as it demands atrocities against mankind. Consolidation and the ocean they can't turn away from despite the people they keep losing to it.
Toward the middle of the movie this pendant cracks. Later in the climax, Simon pulls himself free from a crucifixion, and notably it's his left arm that doesn't follow him. You have to break free from the delusional hope for a perfect outcome, and it will hurt and it will be like pulling off a limb and it will feel like losing your home both past and future. But now you are free. You can look at the present.
the concept of laika the dog and simon the convict from iron lung being drawn together as the patron saints of one way trips is so unbelievably bittersweet. i saw the film i get it but also. henry passed during production and i think mark would find it very sweet that people have given the film character a dog as a parallel, almost like a partner. thinking about laika too hard makes me cry she deserved so much better than being sent up with no plan for landing her shuttle or even retrieving it.
no one deserves to be left behind to die in the name of advancement.
Another thing that makes me insane btw is the part where Simon starts repeating “it’s bigger than me. It’s bigger than me. It’s bigger than me.” to himself as he’s fighting this thing. He’s lost every ounce of self preservation he had. Every ounce of selfishness - including the good selfishness, the kind that keeps you from fully giving yourself up. I feel in that moment he accepted that there was no way out of it, and it’s so sad because he fought so hard for so long, begging, bargaining, searching for hope, raging against all the odds stacked against him, only to give in in the end and resign himself to the idea that his death - his sacrifice - will be noble, when it’s impossible to know if he’d even be remembered for what he did, that it’ll make up for what he’s done when he’s already had more than enough punishment. In his last moment he forces himself to abandon the idea that he deserves to live. He was clearly already on the fence about it anyway (“I just wanna live, is that so wrong?” - the fact that that’s a question that even crossed his mind speaks volumes) but at this point he’s repressed all that. “It’s bigger than me” starts to sound to me like “I don’t matter now”.
anyone else thinking about how simon chose to breathe his last at the bottom of an ocean. seen. heard. and uncontrolled. three things that simon has never known.
anyone else thinking about how butchery is a tradesperson position, one that takes and fufills orders from others.
anyone else thinking about how simon's life has never been his to choose. only his death was. you guys thinkin about that?

I'm so obsessed with this movie. I am The Most Normal about this movie Ever. So have some theories!!
Obviously, there will be spoilers under the cut. DO NOT CLICK READ MORE UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE.
1. Despite popular opinion, I do not think Simon is experiencing extreme radiation poisoning. "Oh but the headaches he's shown having!" Simon got slammed around that sub like the beads in a baby rattle. He hits his head several times and we see him get forcibly knocked unconscious twice. He has a SEVERE concussion. "Oh but the heat!!" Blood boils under pressure. I'm gonna say it again. Blood boils under pressure. Under extreme amounts of pressure, blood boils. We are shown that the condensation and the heat in the sub starts almost immediately upon Simon's first descent, before he's ever used the camera. "Oh but the vomiting up blood!" We are shown that Simon is exposed to the blood from outside the sub almost immediately. The blood that later turns the sub into a living thing. That blood. He is exposed to it, infected with it, on his bare hand, almost immediately. Simon HAS been exposed to radiation from the camera, let's be clear. But the issue is that it's probably around the same amount that a radiologist gets exposed to in their career. Simon is welded into a submarine. A sea-faring vessel with walls that are literal FEET thick to withstand the extreme pressure of ocean depths. The radiation is being blasted AWAY from him, into the ocean. David is completely correct in saying that the amount of radiation Simon is exposed to is negligible. He is protected from it by the sub and, again David is correct, the blood outside absorbs the vast majority of the radiation.
2. The voice, the light, the fish, and the blood are all the same organism. Specifically, I think the light came first. The voice refers to the light (itself) as a fraction of what caused the Quiet Rapture, and we know that the oceans of blood were only discovered to exist after the Quiet Rapture happened. The light, whatever entity it is evidence of, I think then used the blood as a vehicle. The fish was then created from the blood. I don't really have textual evidence for this other than the conversation Simon has with the voice about his name. Simon says "...I never told you my name." The voice replies; "Yes, you did." Up until this point in the story, the name Simon has been said exactly once. Specifically the line; "Sure. Good. Don't mind me, I'm just... trying to get home. You see someone looking for Simon, just... let 'em know I'm still alive." Simon does tell the voice his name- because he tells the FISH his name. The voice, the light, the fish, the blood are all the same. At the end of the movie, the voice tells Simon that the ship is ALIVE, which we can very easily come to understand is because the blood makes it alive. The blood itself is alive, after all. When it floods into the sub, the oxygen meter counts it. Which means it is oxygenated blood. Which means it is living blood.
3. Simon is meant to be read as mixed race, like Mark. Connected to this, "The Father" on Eden is likely Simon's actual father. The other children his actual brothers. Simon being read as mixed race can be taken either way, but I do think there are some textual clues to it. For one, the voice refers to him as "half" quite a lot. "Half-measured, half-committed. Never enough."; The other Children of Eden that we see around Simon are also of varying races, I believe, though I don't remember off the top of my head exactly, but the Voice a lot of the time seems to be speaking from the perspective of Simon's own insecurities. Also important is that of the living characters we get to see onscreen, Simon is the only one who isn't white. Every other character we see onscreen outside of a flashback are white, being Ava, Jack, and David. David is, if you guys didn't catch him, very vaguely visible in the scene in the hangar. He's the one who calls Ava away from the window initially, and you can see him standing in the background.
So the second and third sentences in that last paragraph; The Father and the other Children of Eden. Well, The Father refers to Simon as "My son". Not "my children" to address the entire group, even when he switches from directly speaking to Simon to speaking to them all. But "my son", very specifically speaking with Simon. Simon refers to the other Children of Eden as "my brothers", even after Filament Station. Even after they've left him behind and he expresses a discontentment with Eden's ideology and methods, he still refers to them as his brothers. "My brothers abandoned me. THEY ABANDONED ME!" That emphasis on the idea of abandonment is important, and brings me to another point;
5. Simon's mother abandoned him. Now, on my first watch, I thought she might have died in childbirth. The voice specifically says that the only legacy she left Simon with was death. But upon my second listen, there's the person credited as "A Familiar Voice". A Familiar Voice is the one who speaks to Simon and guides him back to the SM-8 when he gets lost. But before that, we hear it speaking to him in a memory. "Don't be like that, Simon, you're going to love it there," it says. It's encouraging Simon, telling him he'll be happy somewhere. But it isn't we're going to love it here. It's you're going to love it there. Wherever Simon is going, A Familiar Voice isn't coming with. And then, the voice over the speaker asks if Simon's mother would even recognize him. Now why does it go for his mother, I hear you ask. Why bring her up? Well, in the first conversation Simon has with the voice, he calls for his mom. When the oxygen ticks down a box and he starts to break down because he's scared, the first thing he says is "Ma-" like he's calling for his mother, only to cut himself off. He takes a deep breath, pauses like he's swallowing the pain of a wound that never healed, and moves on. But that idea of abandonment, it never goes away. His brothers abandoned him. When he gets angry at the voice, he tells it that Ava and the COI abandoned it. Not just left it, abandoned it. Simon knows the pain of being abandoned, not just from his brothers, but from his mother.
6. Simon killed the other Children of Eden that we see in the childhood flashbacks. Now. Here's the thing. The first time we hear the nickname "Simon the Butcher" or just hear Simon referred to as "the butcher" or "butcher", it is accompanied by a brief flashback. Young Simon stands alone in front of the last tree. He's staring down at his hands, covered in blood. Around him lay the bodies of the other Children of Eden he is previously shown standing around the tree with. "Oh but can't that just be metaphorical, for the guilt he feels for the people of Filament Station?" Sure, maybe. But the movie hasn't shied away from showing Filament Station in the flashbacks Simon has to it. The film has no issue showing the guilt Simon feels for Filament Station. And don't forget, Simon had his nickname before Filament Station. "Simon the Butcher finally grew a conscious. Don't forget, you have more blood on your hands than all of us combined, killer.". Before Filament Station ever happened, Simon was a killer, hated even by other Eden Soldiers. And we get no other explanation in the entire movie for why Simon would be referred to as "the butcher" or "killer", except for that flashback. That, in combination with Simon's desperation to live and the way he clings to fairness, I think indicates he may have been manipulated into killing the kids or possibly did so out of what he believed to be self defense. Also, Ava directly states that in the film, the other Eden Soldiers escaped Filament Station and were not among the 62 people killed.
7. If the voice had not taunted Simon about it being alive, or about him being "Simon the Butcher", it would have won. Simon wouldn't have been able to save the black box. We see that the blood brings the ship to life, right? And when Simon first tries to open the porthole, the ship itself doesn't let him, because the ship is a living thing under the control of the voice. The Voice taunts Simon about being "the butcher" multiple times. And when Simon can't open the porthole, it specifically taunts him about the ship being alive, and that the ship won't let Simon get the box to safely. If the Voice hadn't told him that, there is no way for Simon to have known what to do. There is no way for Simon to have been able to save the box, because he couldn't have known what to do. But the Voice, which has taunted humans for being arrogant and greedy, commits the same sins as the humans it despises. It taunts Simon because it can and, ultimately, Simon realizes what to do because of that arrogance. "You want the Butcher!?" Simon screams. At the end of the day, it is Simon's hope for a better life for himself and the rest of humanity that saves the day. But before that, before hope and the indomitable human spirit can win out, the path for it to do so is paved by Simon's killer instinct and the blood on his hands.
8. Final theory, for now! The C.O.I. and Eden can be read as a colonial metaphor. At the same time, Eden acts as a past that Simon is chained to. The colonial metaphors are pretty simple. Simon and the previous pilot of Sm-13 both have necklaces with pendants of preserved leaves from The Last Tree, so clearly this is something that is incredibly important to Children of Eden. Simon's has had his taken away. When he finds the other guy's, he looks at his other wrist, where we see a matching black cord and pendant ring that is broken and missing its pendant. Later, in flashback dialogue heard as Simon is speaking to the voice after retrieving the black box data, we hear Ava tell Simon that the leaf was confiscated by the C.O.I., because the C.O.I. wants to start their own garden someday. Essentially, they steal a massive part of Simon's culture from him, with the intention of making it their own. Simon also says he was given a tattoo by Eden, and the C.O.I. made him burn it off. Evidence of Simon's culture is repeatedly stolen from him and even attempted to be erased from his appearance and identity. To point out again, the only other non-white characters we see in the movie are Children of Eden. Every member of the C.O.I. that we see in the movie are white. At the same time, however, Simon doesn't feel at home in either Eden or the C.O.I. (possibly harkening back to point 4). He puts the previous SM-13 pilot's bracelet around the opposite wrist than the one he wore his own bracelet on, meaning throughout the movie he has two thick, black cords wrapped around both his wrists. Cords that represent his past, while he relives his past and his guilt every time he closes his eyes or loses focus for too long. They're a physical representation of him being chained by his past and his grief.
Now, no more theories, but some fun details I noticed;
After getting the black box data when Simon starts becoming more aware of his surroundings and reality again, he gets a large burn across his face in the shape of the blood that sprayed from the porthole.
When the Voice first tells Simon about the coordinates and promises him freedom, it isn't actually promising freedom, it's telling him that it is going to kill him. When the Voice promises "freedom", it says; "You will have your freedom." This is a direct mirror to the previous pilot's voice message; "They will have their execution. And I will have my freedom." Contrast this with when Ava finally promises freedom; "And then I'll be free?" "And then you'll be free."
The shape of the leaf in the pendant mimics the shape of the crack in the porthole.
When David is speaking with Simon over the speaker and gets angry at Simon telling him to shut up, the audio starts to get garbled as David continues to speak. But it sounds like he says "The last guy died down there."
There isn't really any way to tell how Simon died. He either drowned in the blood, was killed by the immense pressure, or was burned to death by the blood. Either way, his death was likely slow and extremely painful.
there’s like a reverse fairy belief thing going on right? Whatever the god sees or think it sees becomes real, what it doesn’t know isn’t real or stops existing. Are the fish monsters shaped like that because they’re based off of humans and the submarines. Like sm-8 lady IS the monster stalking Simon. the top half of the skull is oddly human like. So the god sees these things roaming the blood oceans, and it sees the humans piloting them. but they’re seen as one thing?
Like that’s a human within the monster. A messed up human but it’s pretty human shaped.
I can’t find an image of the monster but it felt sub shaped to me? kinda like a weird football
Nothing has stressed me more than having to tell people because of the iron lung movie that the alcohol that you drink and thats in mouthwash is different than 70% concentrated isopropyl alcohol that Simon in the movie drinks. So not only did his dumbass get radiation poisoning and possibly decompression sickness (yes I know he was welded shut into that hunk of junk but there would still likely have been certain pressure changes) but he got his ass poisoned with a disinfectant.
