64 + landoscar pretty please?? i truly think this could be a nyoomfruits drabble classic
64. āI heard Omegas like stuffed animals in their nest so I bought like, 30 for you.ā
Ā Itās so stupid, but Oscar has very quickly learned that when it comes to Lando Norris, he just canāt help himself.
It starts off so innocent too, just Lando complaining to Oscar during a particularly grueling weekend early on in the 2023 season, back when the car was still bad bad, that he couldnāt even properly nest because he left all of his stuffed animals at home, and apparently according to Lando, a proper next is not a proper next without at least one cuddly friend or two.
Oscar got him a simple teddy bear, that time. Saw it in the airport and bought it before he even fully realized what he was doing. For a split second he considered shoving it into his bag, pretending it never even happened, but before he could, Lando had already spotted him.
āBought a friend, Oscar?ā Lando had said, cocked head as he eyed the bear with curiosity.
āFor you,ā his stupid Alpha brain said, thrusting the bear forward before he could stop himself.
āOh.ā Landoās face had been soft, taken off guard a little bit. āThatās. Thank you.ā
āI know you canāt nest in the plane, but I thought it might help anyway,ā Oscar had said, feeling a little stupid and like his feelings were written all over his fucking face.
But Lando had just taken the bear carefully and had smiled softly at it. āYeah, no, cheer mate. āPreciate it.ā
āAny time,ā Oscar had said, something deep inside him settling contently as he watched Lando hug the bear closer to his chest.
And heād really meant that, apparently. The āany timeā. Carries a stuffed animal in his backpack every race weekend just in case. He gets sneakier about giving them to Lando though, doesnāt want him to think he doesnāt trust Landoās ability to take care of himself, but. He wants to see Lando happy more than anything.
So whenever Lando forgets to bring a stuffed animal for his nest, which is starting to happen more and more often, he sneaks one into his drivers room, or his backpack, or one time even into his garage, leaving one of his mechanics to find it.
And itās great. Itās perfect. Lando seems none the wiser and Oscar has a happy, satisfied Omega. Or, well, he doesnāt have him, not like that, but itās enough, just watching Landoās shoulders relax or the smile on his face on those particularly grueling weekends. Knowing he helped, in a way.
Until he gets caught red handed.
āSo,ā Lando says, leaning against the doorway, amused look on his face as the watched Oscar gently place a stuffed turtle between the couch cushions. āAre we finally talking about it?ā
Oscar freezes. āI wasnāt- This isnāt- Iām not- You just said, that one time, you liked having them for your nest, and then I got you that one and you liked it and then I just kept buying them, I never wanted to- Fuck, Iām really sorry.
āDonāt be,ā Lando says, pushing off the doorway and walking towards Oscar slowly. āThey smell like you,ā he confesses. And the implication hits Oscar hard. Heās known. He has known this whole time. āItās part of the appeal, really.ā
āI- oh.ā
āYeah,ā Lando says, smiling a little bashfully now. āYou know, some Omegas consider stuffed animals courting gifts.
Oscar swallows. Dares not to get his hopes up. āDo you?ā
Lando reaches forward, runs his finger over the head of the turtle. āDepends on the Alphaās intentions,ā he says.
āI just want you to be happy,ā Oscar blurts.
Lando straightens up, smiles softly at him. āThen yes, Oscar. I consider them courting gifts.ā
I saw the movie at a free advance screening last night (emphasis on FREE! please donāt give this movie money!) and yeah, all this and moreā¦
there isnāt a single female character in this movie who isnāt shown fawning over the drivers at some point. seriously. Not. One.
none of the female characters talk to each other once (even though half of the background engineers are women)Ā
mechanic jodie (aka āwheel gun girlā...i had to imdb her character's name since it's so briefly mentioned) has a crisis of confidence solved by brad pitt telling her to believe in herself, because obviously a man has to be the savior despite the teamās female technical director being RIGHT THEREĀ
Kate, the technical director, says she worked at lockheed martin before coming to F1 (because i guess the military-industrial complex needed to be involved as well???) and the team owner convinced her to get into the sport. because god forbid a woman take an interest in racing on her own without a MAN being involvedĀ
the woman in the club asking if she can meet carlos sainz might be funnyā¦.if it werenāt in the context of the rest of the film showing women as ancillary and interested in sleeping with the drivers. within this film, that whole club scene that spends an excessive amount of time focusing on scantily-clad female aerial dancers feels really gross.Ā
also the whole script is bad, none of the characters have depth, and all of the potential development is ruined by brad pittās asshole character always being shown in the right and the insistence on relegating kate to a brainless love interest. itās really not worth it for the spectacle or seeing like 0.2 seconds of irl drivers in the background (none of them even have a speaking cameo; itās only team principals and stefano domenicali that do)Ā
I could go on for ages about a bunch of other issues with the movie but just...don't bother with it. and PLEASE don't give them your money.
