He heard a machine beeping to his right, the heart monitor, it started to go insane as he felt a thick pain go through his chest. Hissing at the discomfort he ripped the leads off and the beeping settled into a single tone which then diminished. He imagined that an alarm would be going off somewhere, but so far it appeared to be ignored.
Stumbling out of the bed he found loose cotton pants and shirt; he threw them on before trying the door, locked. Turning to the window he drew back the curtains to find a wall. Well that’s just brilliant. Whoever was keeping him here apparently wanted him to stay contained and hidden. Rolling his eyes the man heaved a sigh and threw the curtains back in place. He paced a few steps, fingers tapping against his leg in that subconscious rhythm.
The man soon fell back on the bed after formulating all possible options that resulted in the same conclusion, he would have to wait. He sat with his head in his hands as time slowly passed, ages going by before the door opened.
John almost got caught once or twice; asked why he was there, what he was doing, asked to leave the ward, or simply given a strange look and observed a few whispers between workers.
And yet, he made it through, finding the room he wanted. He only tried the door once, rattling it as he did so.
Locked.
Of course it's locked. Stupid.
Who put locked doors in a hospital? Surely there were doctors going in and out or something—
But there weren't. And if there were few doctors going in an out, then few would have the key. So he could either spend all day looking around for a Doctor he had no idea who they were...
...or he could get the keys from the janitor he'd passed ten minutes back. He turned around and set off at a run, thinking that at the very least he could pick the lock if it came down to it.
It took him another ten minutes to both find and get the janitors keys, and although that was fairly fast John wished he would've been faster. Nevertheless, as soon as he arrived at the locked down again he started trying keys, switching them out as soon as they didn't work.
And then eventually, one did.
Slowly, John pushed open the door and headed inside.
/// I'm going to continue to be MIA for around a week, because camping; so no wi-fi. We're currently packing, and I've just managed to get on my laptop to post this
