Welcome to Fallout 3 Hot tips. I have played the game extensively and have beaten the game on every difficulty. I own the GOTYE and can answer any question about the game you may have. Contracting Radiation Poisoning: Wasteland Survival Guide

This one is probably the easiest to accomplish. All you have to do is go out and collect 200 rads of radiation and you're done. Just go and report back to Moira and claim your prize. Now the optional bit is to collect 3X that and go for the even higher stage of rad poisoning.

The absolute easiest way to accomplish this mission is to simply walk down to the Atomic Bomb in the middle of town and drink the water around it. That will give you around 10 or 11 rads per second by drinking it, making the quest go by rather fast.

Another way to gain the poisoning is to eat and drink a lot of radiated items. Granted not the most graceful or likely solution, but still an option for all you food hoarders.

After completion of the quest, you gain the ability to regenerate limb condition at a rather high radiation level. This is useful, considering limb damage happens every 10 seconds out in the Capital Wasteland.

Super Duper Mart: Wasteland Survival Guide

The Super Duper Mart is located relatively close to Megaton, being just over the hill to the right of exiting the town. It is a large Supermarket that used to store more food than you could imagine and was a hot stop for doomsday preppers from before the war.

The interior is swarmed by raiders and are rather annoying at a low level due to their fully auto weapons which are always there. At least one will have an assault rifle, another will have a Combat Shotgun, most will be melee or pistol wielders. A tough fight if you go at it alone. 

The quest is to run in, get the food and then exit, with the medical stuff being a bonus if you manage to find it. There are 2 different places to find food in the mart:

In the bottom left hand corner of the store (upon entry) in a fridge

A fridge sitting in an old frozen food display

The medical supplies are a tad more difficult. They are behind a normal locked door, or an easy hackable terminal. Either way you get in, you will find the medical supplies up on the wall in a medical box upon entry.

*I cannot stress this enough: DONT JUST RUSH THROUGH THIS PLACE! It has so many useful items, weapons, foods, ammo and chems everywhere, so be on the lookout. Especially near the pharmacies and counters. There always seems to be something good to take.

Minefield: Wasteland Survival Guide

Minefield is located to the north of Megaton and the Scrapyard. Getting there is the easy part, but surviving is a tad difficult due to the sniper, Arkansas, firing rounds at nearby cars. These explosions set off other landmines and also cause heavy knockdown damage if close by. 

Solutions:

Detonate all the cars yourself, walk through the town without getting shot at.

Wait, have him shoot the cars, run back, let them explode and continue on the safe path with no mines thanks to the shooter.

Kill Arkansas, do as you wish with the cars and mines with no added pressure.*

*Note that this does interfere with the Slaver's questline so be sure that you want him dead

Fallout 3 and Dogmeat

Getting Dog Meat early on in Fallout 3 is a very smart move. He is the 2nd strongest follower in the game, and can be recruited no matter what your karma level is at. 

He is located at the Scrapyard on your way to Minefield. (Or at least that's where I always get him.) He will be sitting around a few dead bodies with some loot on them including his old master's. Take him under your wing and enemies will be less able to sneak up on you due to his extreme perception.

Well, I am not sure that you can kill Harold by shooting his heart. However, I know that you can kill him by burning him up at the ground level. You could also kill him using the alternative method of using the poison given to you upon entry to Harold's little area.

You dont need to carry every single type of weapon out there

Cut down on what you have. Take your total amount of weapons that you have in your inventory, pick the ones that you ever fire, and then cut that number in half. Just follow that little trick and you will almost never get overencumbered due to weapons weight.

Dont waste a perk on anything spray and pray

Spray and pray is a tactic often used for weapons such as mini-guns or maybe even a gatling laser. The point is literally pull the trigger and rapidly fling your centerpoint all over the place hoping to land a hit. This is not wise. I wastes your ammo fast, encourages a low hit/miss ratio and, frankly is rather dumb. Why would you waste all that money on ammo that wont deal any damage?

Never rely on a single skill

Relying on a single skill is one of the fastest ways to either run out of ammo and ultimately die... a lot. Guns alone will only get you so far. Have your melee or unarmed skills up high as well so that you can varry your shots and make them actually count.

The infinant caps glitch

This is the most widely used glitch in the entire series, hands down. The glitch is basically the shop getting confused and momentarily breaking it's barter system. When this happens, you will end up with the ability to sell a weapon for more than you bought it, or sell it again for more than it was worth when you brought it. 

To make this more simple, I will list what you will need:

A vendor (preferably one with a lot of caps)

2-3 weapons of a single type (sawed off shotgun works best)

You walk up to the vendor and preform buisness with him or her. Sell then 2 of the weapons you brought for the glitch to work. Buy one of them back and then alternate between the one you have in the shop and in your inventory. You will start to notice that your weapon will start to increase in price when you have it, but then you can buy it back for dirt cheap. Once that starts happening, you know that the glitch has worked.

This is good for legally clearing a store, without taking karma damage.

How to get as much ammo for your weapons as you want

In the DLC Operation Anchorage, you can get more than 30,000 rounds for any weapon used in the DLC for free. I will bullet the steps:

Get the class for whatever weapon you want's ammo

Go to the nearest ammo dispenser

Drop off all your rounds on the ground in front of the machine

refill your ammo count

drop your ammo again

repeat until you have all the ammo you want on the ground

pick it all up and move on to the next gun if you want.

This is a good one for all you spray and prayers who use up a lot of ammo fast.

The Gary glitch in Aiding the Outcasts

The Gary glitch is one of the most well known glitches/exploits of the game. This glitch takes place in the Brotherhood Outcasts bunker. The Outcasts will ask you to get into the machine and pass the simulator to get into the vault, that has refused to open, that is full of stuff. I will bullet the different steps involved to do it right.

When you go into the main hall leading to the simulator machine, you turn to your left.

There is a door with a Gary clone on the other side who is dead already. Drag him into the simulator pod.

Set him up so that he is draped over the seat of the pod and can remain still when not being held put.

Go through Operation Ancherage and get as much supplies as you want from inside the simulator. 

Complete the quest inside the simulator

Rapidly hit the select key or button until you get an inventory list.

Deposite everything you have onto the Gary clone that you were able to access

Exit the pod and turn around to take your stuff out of Gary's inventory.

This is how you get the Winterized Combat Armor to have in the Capital Wasteland without mods or console commands.

Unarmed Skill

The unarmed skill is a great fall back skill to have. Meaning, if you are unfortunate enough to run out of ammo in the field, or your melee weapon breaks, you can always rely on your fists to deal damage. The higher the skill, the better off you are in hard times of little to no ammo.

The less you carry, the better off you are

A character that can be very light when they travel is usually the one that survives the longest. They can also pick up the more desirable items without caring about becoming overencumbered. A better chance for survival becomes up for the taking in that sense. Stay light, live longer.

Navigating the Speakers in the Sierra Madre

The speakers in the Sierra Madre are some of the most aggrivating things to run across. They set off your collar if you stand near them for too long and are almost EVERYWHERE! Well, I am here to make it easy for you. You can shoot out all but 1 kind of speaker in the Madre. Spot them from a distance (Old radios, CB radios, speakers on the wall WITHOUT the red light, ect.) Just shoot them out because as far as ammo goes, you will only run out of it if you waste it on the holograms or ghosts without a high guns skill. Walls disrupt the frequency from hitting you, so be sure to hide behind them as much as possible when navigating the area outside and inside the Sierra Madre.
