Please add “AAVE” to your resume!

What is AAVE? Its Afican American Vernacular English or, a term more widely familiar, ebonics. If you can speak this way, YOU ARE BILINGUAL!! This is not a reach at all, it is fact. Add it to your resume!! This is not a space filler. This is you speaking on your skill (thats the section it can go into) that you were told was not only “not a skill” but also it was “the wrong/incorrect language”.

AAVE is not “slang”. It is governed by rules just like the english we were taught as children in school. (While we’re on the subject, there is no such thing as “proper” english. There is however, a such thing as “standard” english which only equates to the natural convention of things. This is why we have the situation where UK has a standard english different than America). America is willing to recognize Spanish with it’s rules, Patois with it’s rules, even click “!” languages with its rules and it should also recognize AAVE as a language with its rules as well.
