i'm glad my father dies

I’m glad my father died.

No—

not because I never loved him,

not because I lacked respect,

not because I did not care.

I loved him enough

to know disappointment

would’ve broken his heart.

It would hurt him

to watch his daughter grow

into someone he could never wished for—

He wanted a simple and normal life for me.

He wanted to see me in bright career, get married, have children, rising a family, and live the kind of life he always imagined for his daughter.

But I don’t think I can give him that.

And I know he would keep asking himself what he did wrong.

He would think he failed as a father.

I think that pain would destroy him slowly. more than his own sickness.

And maybe

it is kinder this way.

Because now he rests untouched

by the grief of unmet expectations.

Now his memories of me

remain gentle,

unfinished,

still glowing with hope.

So when I say

I’m glad my father died,

it is not cruelty.

It is love

wearing mourning clothes.
