A lot of years ago I studied Illustration at (then) NMIT and learnt the skills that now pay my bills. I also met some of the best people I ever have known. To celebrate 20 years of the incredible Illustration program at (now) Melbourne Polytechnic an exhibition is currently on (with a few little pieces from myself and 20 years of alumni) at Chapel off Chapel. Glazed and Sewn

I was super chuffed to be asked to be part of this group exhibition with such a talented bunch of artists who work with textiles and ceramics. Below are some images of the Charlotte Campbell's extraordinary embroideries and Tara Whalley's beautiful digital prints. There are many more fine works from Trish Burton, Clare Fennessy, Amie Luczkowski Gibson, Sarah Lyons and Lucinda Florence too. It's up until 22nd January.

My work is titled Panspermia - Panspermia is the hypothesis that life can be dispersed throughout the cosmos via meteorites or other more intentional means (aliens in spaceships). For this exhibition I hypothesize that life came to Earth from Mars, via a beautiful pink meteorite. Colour and pattern collide and explode into life. In my mind, surely the creation of life on Earth was a colourful event.

Lieutenant Finn - a sequel

In a sequel to "Begin Transmission" I illustrated the second installment by my brother in law, for his baby boy, Finn. It also follows Finn's journey to Earth, where he is trying to find his big sister Eimer, who arrived on the planet a few years before him.

"As clothing, textiles protect the body and convey social status, age, gender, and religion through the amount of material used, weaving quality, garment length, and decoration. They are considered precious items that are kept tightly guarded because they are worn so close to the body; if left unattended, an article of clothing could fall into the hands of a sorcerer or enemy who might then harm the wearer. A very worthy and respected profession, over 60 percent of Malian artisans worked with textiles in 2003. Today, bogolan lives on through the tourist market, in the fashion world, and through the work of contemporary Malian folk and fine artists."

A little project I did with my brother in law for my niece. My bro-in-law wrote a beautiful story about his baby girl and I drew the images and designed the layout. It then was given as a Christmas gift for family members.
