DANIEL DE BRUIN Designer and graduated at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. Daniel de Bruin built the impressive installation ‘Neurotransmitter 3000’ and a 3D printer, that both push the boundaries between man and machines. He explores his role as a designer in an age where computers and machines take over manual labor. Daniel is fascinated by this technological progress and the effects on our society.

MARLIES VAN PUTTEN Designer and graduated at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. For her graduation project Marlies van der Putten designed three objects, made out of oxidized materials. ‘Oxidation Aftermath’ combines neutral materials like marble, wool and ceramics with copper. During the oxidation process these materials change in an unexpected and beautiful way.

JORIEN WILTENBURG Designer and graduated at The Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. The particularly aesthetic project ‘Micro Urban Mining’ by Jorien Wiltenburg is a creative vision on how to recycle electronic waste. Her signature style is recognizable by her experimental approach and her focus on tactility, refinement and design.

ROEL VAN EEKELEN Illustrator and graduated at the The Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Roel van Eekelen designed the conceptual cafetaria ‘Het Goede Leven’ (‘The Good Life’), which reflects his love for food and design. Though Roel graduated as an illustrator his project proofs that he is a multi-talent. With clever designs, compositions and typography he transforms fastfood into exciting art.

JELLE KOK Graphic designer and graduated at the School of Fine Art and Design (St.Joost ) in Breda. Jelle Kok graduated with two projects: an eye-catching campaign about visual poetry and the playful book ‘8:55 tot 17:34’. Especially the beautiful designed campaign posters stand out and are based on the five elements of visual poetry (language, shape, color, space and sound).

NEL VERBEKE Designer and graduated at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. The graduation project ‘Embrace melancholy’ by Nel Verbeke is a bittersweet expression of melancholy in our daily life. Nel designed four objects that represent different facets of melancholy. In this way she examines how melancholy can play a positive role in a world where there is an overemphasize on happiness.

JIP HILHORST Artist and graduated at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. The two-part publication ‘Some Of The Good Old Ultra Violence’ by Jip Hilhorst is a surreal mix of thoughts, theories and images about the search for freedom. Jip presents his designs and illustrations in many different forms, including books, wallpaper and fashion. His work is featured in Subbacultcha and Vice magazine.

JURRE BLOM Painter and graduated at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. Jurre Blom graduated with a compelling series of paintings that are inspired by odd photos on the internet. In his paintings, Jurre gives apparently ordinary events a fascinating and uncanny feel. For his graduation project he won the Dooyewaard Stipendium, which gives him the opportunity to focus full-time on his autonomous work.

ELENE HULLEMAN Graphic Designer and graduated at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. Elene Hulleman explores in her stunning textile project ‘Invasive Fabrik’ how nature can play a role in design. With clean graphics and natural colors, Elene visualizes the human influence on nature – particularly plants. Elene is also part of illustration and design collective UMLAUT.

NIELS MOOLENAAR Photographer and graduated at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. For his graduation project Niels Moolenaar traveled around the world for three months, working on the beautiful photo series ‘Decoherence’. With his keen eye for detail and composition, Niels gives a new perspective on daily objects and situations. Niels is also co-founder of multimedia studio Kepler Creative Amsterdam.

ISA VAN WEERT Illustrator and graduated at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. Her exceptional project 'Cosmographic Revolutions of Earth’ is inspired by pseudo-scientist Karman Matter and questions our interpretation of the physical reality. The black and white illustrations show a distinctive style with geometric shapes and dark characters. Isa is currently working on projects in illustration and with her art collective EMP.

BART VOLLEBREGT Graphic designer and graduated at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. Bart Vollebregt’s remarkable typographic installation is made out of 200 handmade ceramic tiles. He designed two unique fonts in order to create a poetic text, which expresses what typography means to him. Currently Bart is following the prestigious TypeMedia master course at the Royal Academy of Art The Hague.

We zijn verheugd dat Fontanel Finals 2015 net als afgelopen jaar gepresenteerd zal worden in samenwerking met Adobe Benelux. De ideale partner voor Fontanel Finals, dat voor de achtste keer een waardig podium zal bieden aan het grootste aanstormende creatieve talent van Nederland die vanaf begin augustus door ons gepresenteerd zullen worden.  — Adobe Benelux

Wetenschappelijk gezien zijn tranen onder te verdelen in basale, reflex of emotionele tranen. Diezelfde wetenschap stelt dat elke traan een andere samenstelling heeft; maar wat betekent dit nu in ‘realiteit’? Dit was de vraag die de Nederlandse fotograaf Maurice Mikkers zich stelde voordat hij samen met vrienden aan een experiment begon. Hij gaf zijn onderzoeksobjecten de keuze om uien te snijden, hete pepers te eten, in een ventilator te kijken of daadwerkelijk huilen van verdriet of geluk en vervolgens nam Mikkers een foto van elke traan onder de microscoop. Het resultaat zijn uitzonderlijk fascineren beelden die doen denken aan sneeuwvlokken en een bijzonder grote diversiteit tonen. Voor meer werk van Maurice Mikkers zie hier.

Fontanel Finals Open Call 2015

We bieden als Fontanel dit jaar voor de zevende keer het overzicht van alle eindexamen exposities van de Nederlandse kunstacademies. Daarnaast selecteren we ook weer de meest getalenteerde afstuderende creatieven - de Dutch Design Talents - en geven we ze een podium om wat meer over zichzelf en hun werk te vertellen. 

STUUR JE WERK IN  Met een kort interview en een showcase van je afstudeerwerk zorg je ervoor dat je onder de aandacht komt te staan van blogs, tijdschriften, ontwerpers, headhunters, opdrachtgevers of wellicht je toekomstige baas en collega's. 

Tijdens de eindexamenexposities lopen er ook Fontanel scouts rond, maar bestaat de kans dat we elkaar mislopen in de hectiek. Daarom doen we nu een oproep zodat je ons -in alle rust- kunt vertellen over jouw next level afstudeerproject.

Je kunt je werk insturen tot 14 juli, maar hoe eerder hoe beter. Door de grote hoeveelheid inzendingen kunnen we helaas niet iedereen voorzien van een persoonlijke reactie. Als je wordt geselecteerd tot Dutch Design Talent, nemen we natuurlijk direct contact met je op.

Vanaf afgelopen vrijdag toont het Rijksmuseum voor de eerste keer een groot overzicht uit zijn rijke collectie kostuum- en modeprenten. Op ruim 300 prenten is de verandering van de vrouwen- en mannenmode van 1600 tot de eerste helft van de 20ste eeuw en de ontwikkeling van het modetijdschrift tot de modeglossy’s zoals wij die vandaag de dag kennen te zien. De tentoonstelling is vormgegeven door ontwerper en gastconservator Christian Borstlap, die tevens de video voor zijn rekening nam. Mode-illustratoren Piet Paris en Quentin Jones verlenen hun medewerking. Zie hier voor alle informatie.

Fontanel Finals is live! Voor de zevende keer geven wij een handig overzicht van alle data, tijden en adressen van de verschillende eindexamenexposities. Alle vooraanstaande kunstacademies zijn vertegenwoordigd. Staat jouw academie er niet tussen? Geef ons een seintje.
