Live Review - Iceage @ London
“ I was left surrendered to their gloomy sensation, totally taken away to a whole new place where I could see no one, not the band not the people not my friends, just comfortless darkness that yet cold, it seemed familiar, it seemed so well and carefully constructed that there was no need to worry about. I embraced it”
I really don't know how many musical elements I could possibly name when listening to Iceage, nor I know how far they still have to go or how the fuck Elias Bender Rønnenfelt is so ridiculously attractive, one thing I know for sure though is that, seeing these guys perform live while laid on a nice leather couch with perfect view of the stage, made me at least that night, one of the luckiest guys!
Arriving at the venue full of excitement the scenery was classic with super-stylish fans hanging out of the venue ( like you are going to a fuckin' wedding but anyway who am I to judge) and the band's members having their last beers before the show wandering in and out of the venue. They are not really much of talkers, but hey, it's Iceage, what did you expect all laughs and jokes? can't blame them;
I was silently standing amongst people and after all the waiting and gossiping about Elias Rønnenfelt personality (number one topic on that night I must confess ) the show was about to start.
Myself, sat solo on a nice black leather couch, having a perfect view of the stage, while my beer is still full, desperately waiting for these four young men from Denmark to unleash their dark and soul-sucking set.
Starting their set, in the first couple of songs some disturbances on the sound were pretty obvious. Nonetheless nobody really seemed to care and the band kept on playing until the sound was totally perfect. I really couldn't believe how much passion and effort these guys were putting into it. You could see them performing totally gone, feeling it, being wasted and just don't giving a fuck. Elias was grunting with his characteristic style and voice, half able to stand, falling on the ground on times, while the rest of the band, they were accompanying this great man's voice completing the pitch black and depressing sense that Iceage have exceptionally created.
A very deep darkened sound-space filled with anger, desperation, and troubles, talent and charm, that no man can handle... Only option left, while watching this combination of feelings being expressed through Iceage's music, was to totally surrender to it. And so I did I was left surrendered to their gloomy sensation, totally taken away to a whole new place where I could see no one, not the band not the people not my friends, just comfortless darkness that yet cold, it seemed familiar, it seemed so well and carefully constructed that there was no need to worry about. I embraced it. It was made from Iceage, for us to enjoy, and to say it was just enjoyable would be at least unfair. I won't lie, I am a fan boy of this band and experiencing their show in the very way I had imagined it, was something totally else. Half-drunk and on the perfect spot without even having to be standing up for the whole time... Unreal.
Iceage are talented, talented and experienced so much that literally doesn't fit their age. They are way ahead of their times and they still have a long way to go. They have already crafted their own style in music, blending infinite elements of other genres, and it seems like they will keep on doing so with the consistency talent and success.
Here’s a video from their live show at that day...
