The purple orchid tree (Bauhinia) produces some of the most striking blossoms you’ll find in subtropical landscapes. 💜

Pete Aguereberry spent about 40 years working the nearby Eureka Mine after discovering gold in Death Valley in 1905 with Shorty Harris. His abandoned camp still stands today, offering one of the park’s most fascinating reminders of its mining history.

Kelly Ingram Park preserves the story of the Civil Rights Movement through sculptures based on real events from the 1963 Birmingham Campaign. These works honor the courage of children, families, and leaders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., while reminding visitors of the sacrifices made in the fight for equality. The statues on the bench are tributes to the children who lost their lives in the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church across the street - an attack carried out by white supremacist members of the Ku Klux Klan.

I just love desert art.

One of the strangest and best roadside stops that I’ve found in the California desert, the Glass Outhouse Art Gallery is an outdoor art environment filled with sculptures, found-object creations, recycled materials, and offbeat humor. Visitors can wander through the grounds and discover everything from animal sculptures and folk-art figures to a tiny chapel, vintage objects, and the gallery’s famous glass-walled outhouses.

Don’t be scared when you’re in there - you can see them, but they can’t see you!

Henry’s Tower is the tallest free-standing bell tower in Prague, rising about 216 feet (66 meters) above the New Town. Originally built in the late 15th century, it stands beside the Church of Saint Henry and Saint Cunigunde and is one of the city’s lesser-known Gothic landmarks.

Personally, I loved having this spooky vibe welcome me to Prague. 🖤

This is Dignity: Of Earth & Sky, a 50-foot sculpture by Dale Lamphere overlooking the Missouri River near Chamberlain, South Dakota. The stainless steel panels contain more than 100 blue diamond shapes that catch and reflect the sky throughout the day.

This photo was taken at Castolon in Big Bend National Park, a former military outpost turned farming community along the Rio Grande. Between the desert light and the storm clouds building in the distance, it almost looks more like a painting than a photograph.

The coast redwoods in Redwood National Park are the tallest trees on Earth. Some have stood here for over 2,000 years, surviving fires, storms, and centuries of change. Photos don’t prepare you for how massive they are in person.

An ʻōhiʻa lehua in bloom 🌺

This native Hawaiian tree is often one of the first plants to establish itself on fresh lava flows, helping kickstart the process of rebuilding a forest.

Towering 190 feet above the Texas Panhandle, the Groom Cross is one of the most recognizable landmarks along Route 66. Built in 1995, it’s one of the tallest free-standing crosses in the world and can be seen from miles away across the flat prairie.

Peggy’s Cove is one of the most photographed places in Nova Scotia, mostly because it really does look like a postcard. The village sits on a rocky Atlantic coastline shaped by glaciers, with colorful fishing buildings and huge granite outcrops all around it.
