"Hm, a couple more, huh?" he muttered to himself. He knew two out of three. One of which he knew was friendly and another he had to keep an eye on. Though, hopefully it was an unnecessary action for him.
He gave a polite smile at all of them and nodded his head in acknowledgement before saying his friendly greeting, “Hello there.”
The dark skinned girl smiled at him.
"Hello good sir."
"Hi, I'm Naegi Makoto. Who might you be?"

Those kind words. Friends…
She couldn’t help it this time. She burst into tears, stammering as she talked, “I..I…it’s…it’s been …h-h-horrible…” she shook all over, trying to get her words out, “…I…my-my fr-friends and I… j-j-just w-wanted t-t-o ex-plore..th-th-e m-mansion at the edge of t-town…”
she took a deep breath and steadied herself and her voice before continuing.
"…A-and…when we got inside… there were… m-monsters… …and we couldn’t… get out… …and…everyone… ..ah… they’re all…gone…n-now…"
"….by-by the time I escaped… the world had ended… …I…it didn’t feel like I was trapped in the mansion for even a day….!!! …but it’s like… years have gone by…."
She was probably sounding crazy to him. But she didn’t care… she just needed someone, anyone to hear her out. Even if they didn’t really believe her.
Naegi walked over to the young girl and pulled her into a gentle hug, rubbing her back. It had been awhile since he had to do something like this. He recalled Sayaka's panic too at the time. Maybe this time he would do better.
He had no idea what she really went through. He was worried that it was another incident from SHSL Despair. He tried his best to sooth her worries, listening carefully and shushing her.
"It's ok. You're out now. Look, I'll do my best to make sure something like this doesn't happen to you again. The world right now... well, I like to consider it sick," he began. He didn't like to think consider the world be like this on its own free will. Left alone, he was sure it would have chosen the right bath but... A virus named Junko Enoshima appeared.
"My friends and allies are working to cure this place. It's going to take time but, anyone and everyone that isn't dragged into this despair is one step closer for us."

When still inside of the school, she and everyone else had been told about the state of the world outside. Their vanished memories… even that they had elected to lock themselves inside! And for her, it hadn’t come a moment too soon…
After all, had it not been for Naegi’s fever, the first murder of the life of mutual killing would’ve been by her own hands. Funny, back then her old life had been worth enough to kill for. Now all she really wanted was the old world back….
…Come to think of it… where had her friend gone? She hadn’t seen him as much as she would’ve liked since they had escaped.
…Oh?
Speak of the devil. That was an all-too familiar ahoge she saw in the distance.
"Oh….!!! Naegi!!"
He was a bit surprised to hear his name. His mind had been wandering on his journey from room to to room in the head quarters and he didn't even really pay attention to what has happening around him. His name snapped him out of his thoughts as he slowly looked around;
"Maizono! Ah, I'm sorry! It's nice to see you. My mind was some place else. How are you this afternoon?" he inquired.

She was shuddering so much, it was difficult to talk. To her relief, he didn’t seem angry, let alone in insane.
"I…I’m sorry…"
Funny, now that she had begun to speak, her tears had also started to bubble up. She didn’t really know why… perhaps it was because he reminded her of one of her friends. Or perhaps it was just after all this time, she hadn’t had the chance to cry out the tears that had been forming in her heart. She sniffled a little, and wiped at the tears with the cuffs of her uniform. Ah, but it wasn’t working well. She only succeeded in dusting her face and smearing the wetness from her eyes all across her face. Even so, she tried to smile for him. Crying in front of a stranger, no matter what the situation, was a little rude.
"S-sorry," she began again, "I-I’m just so glad to finally see someone… wh-who isn’t trying to kill me…!"
He knew that feeling. He himself had been stuck in a school where death and killing was promoted above anything else. He had to fight for his survival even when it meant leaving his own friends behind. He hated it. Every inch of the life and trials he had gone through. And it was all that person's fault.
That's why the future foundation was his safe haven. It was his home in hell. The few that had managed to survive despair flocked there. They aimed for a better tomorrow where the nights weren't as scary and the days were happier. He put his heart and soul into this organization. He truly believed they were the group to pull the world out of despair.
A small smile spread across his face after she spoke. He was just as relieved. "No, it's ok. I'm just glad not to see a mindless despairing zombie around here. Are you ok though? I have some friends that can help you if you're hurt."

She had never been quite the same since then. Any time it would rain, or she would be left alone in a room, the thoughts of that terrible place would creep back to her, and consume her mind with horrible memories. She could still remember running through the mud, praying she didn’t trip, feeling the creature grabbing at her sailor collar. It hadn’t been that long ago actually… and yet it seemed like an eternity.
And on top of that, the world she had returned to was not her own. She had escaped the blue demon only to realize that humanity itself had a monster, not unlike the one that had eaten her friends.
She’d spent her time hiding ever since then, from mere survival instinct.
She didn’t really know why she kept on trying anymore, honestly. To escape that mansion had been one thing… but how was she going to escape the world with her life in tact?
Mika sulked for awhile in an alley, until she heard footsteps.
She’d become so accustomed to it, her body reacted without her mind so much as flinching. She brought herself to her feet and sprinted away from them… only to run right into something.
Solid.. but soft… something that stepped back and grunted a little as she made impact with it.
She stumbled back, realizing she had walked into some man’s back. There was no way to tell if he was… one of /them/ or not.
There was no way to escape, either. If she went backwards through the maze of concrete, she would only find herself face to face with yet another stranger.
"……"
She completely froze.
Naegi felt a body unexpectedly run into him as he was on his way back to the organization he had been recruited to join. For him, it was a safe heaven in hell. He was always on edge that the sudden appearance of a girl running into him was a complete shock.
His body, always small for his age, was knocked off balance and he soon stumbled to the cold ground. A thought in the back of his mind wondered how much blood and horror this ground had seen but he let himself focus on the situation at hand.
There was another living soul in his presence. He was unaware of her status. Despair. Normal. Other. It was hard to tell. The people who were once your friends could turn around and attempt to end your life in the name of despair.
He stood up quickly and prepared himself for a fight. It looked rather weak though. He paused, as she appeared to be a deer in headlights.
"Miss? Are you..." Ok? Sane? Not Despair? There were several words that crossed his mind. Those were the first.

"I know there’s only something only me, Kirigiri-san and Togmai Kun would know…Do you know..that number, and its significance? If you don’t that means…well..I’m not sure yet…" Naegi had to be careful with his wording,he couldn’t say the number. It was clear as crystal in his own mind, the memory that came with it,and how it’s save his life, not only once, but twice now.
Oh yes, now that was a rather easy one, wasn't it? He couldn't possibly forget it. Even the first time he saw it was still engraved in his memory. He nodded his head slowly. "Yeah, of course I remember the numbers. 11037, it was the message Maizono left behind. It saved my life, she saved my life."
Suit it up.
"I’m Naegi Makoto…." This was insane, never in his life did he think, something like this would happen. it was like reading a sci-fi manga. "This..makes no sense at all..I’m me.."He shook his head. He knew who he was,he had regained his memories, and overcame despair."There’s only one way we can figure out who the other is.."
"What do you suggest then?" he inquired. He knew he was the real one. He knew everything. The fact that he had fought so hard was proof he was real and he was the real Makoto. Unless this was some rift in time, this impostor was more than likely trying to take his spot. He knew he couldn't give it up either because he wasn't sure of the other's motives. It was possible he was another SHSL Despair trying to bring down the one beacon of hope that Naegi had built up.
"…Is it?" Gundam replied quietly, averting his eyes. "Are humans like me… like us… really worth it? You seem to believe we are worth saving, but after what we did…”
And he knew he himself wasn’t even the worse of it. Even his self-loathing after learning what he had done was nothing compared to what, say, Hinata must be feeling after his own revelations. “If I were you, I would not have bothered with the likes of us… I would have left us to die.”
"Then I'm sure glad you aren't me," he stated. The truth of the matter is that he'd die for these kids. He'd do just about anything to see them safe and sound and as he watched them go through hell like him, his heart broke. Even if he was wary of their past, he kept another eye on the future.
"You see, despair and hope are different sides of the same coin. If I gave up on you, if I believed you truly were a menace and there was no chance of saving you, then I'd be tossing away the hope on the other side. No one person is truly despair, that's what I believe and that's why I wouldn't mind risking my life to save you again."
She laughed. “Why’re you wearing ‘em in the first place, Naegi-chi? Why not switch into your trusty ol’ hoodie now rather than later?” Yasuho wondered for a moment just what this particular version of her friend had gone through - dare she ask? She was content to simply smile and look at him curiously for a little while.
He rubbed his neck. This version then hadn't gotten that far then. He felt sorry for them. He knew she was going to face hell and there was nothing he really could do to help her. Nonetheless, he smiled gentle at her and went on with his explanation, "Ah, the organization that I am currently apart of prefers us to look more professional. I can see where they are coming from, but it's a pain."
Now this was a sight to see. someone, who looked like himself. Naegi wasn’t sure on what was going on ,but he wouldn’t let himself be tricked,if it was one.”Hey,there…” Super High School Level Imposter? No..it couldn’t be. The other’s size was, well he didn’t mean to sound rude, but they had no match with each other. Naegi couldn’t beat around the edges, that caused too many risks in the past.”Who…are you?”
"As far as I know, I'm Naegi Makoto. But... It looks like you are me too, so I'm really confused by the situation," he stated. Who was this other person? As far as he knew, he only knew of a select few that could easily manipulate an appearance to trick someone. Was this person one of those people? It was like looking in a mirror though.
"Oh thank God…"
"It’s a relief to me too…" she said, allowing the hot tears of many terrified hours to trickle down her cheeks, "I’ve been a little behind on what’s been going on in the world… you wouldn’t be able to tell me… w-would you?"
Time had flowed differently in that mansion… it seemed years had passed when she managed to get out. And in a sense, it had been leaping from a frying pan, only to meet the fire of a humanity-turned mad.
But this young man… he didn’t seem like a monster. If anything, he seemed like a reflection.
She was crying. Had he done something wrong? What did he say to upset her? He had to make this right then. He shuffled through his suit pocket and gave her some tissues for her tears.
"Oh... um, may I ask how far you are behind? Hell has opened up not too long ago. I can catch you up-to-date as best as I can. I mean... I ended up having to catch up to," he responded.
The fact that his memory was erased didn't help. Still somethings were foggy and half the time, he had a hard time believing it happened in a matter of a couple of years. Honestly, it all seemed like a bad dream to him but his life had been on the line too many times to count for him not to believe it.
