I am looking for a Coal/Coal/Bronze Wind dragon, Tundra preferably. I am also trying to get a set of each colour type (XXX) again Tundras are preferred.
My current breeding project is causing me to have a tight hibernation den. I may have to have a blow out sale on a bunch of Gen 1 Nocturnes and XYY/XYX/XXY dragons...
I've been thinking about the gathering/coli food discussion, a lot. So, I went to the Mire and fought roughly 100 monsters. My other data says that we have roughly 73.03% chance to get food drops (this percent comes from roughly 800 monsters).
The 100 monsters I just fought gave me these food drops.
If we do the math on this I got;
29 Insects for 116 food points
14 Meat for 95 food points
24 Seafood for 96 food points
33 Plant for 132 food points.
I got very lucky on fighting three frog guys who are always going to drop food worth 17 points. Had they been any other meat drop from the coli I only would have gotten 56 food points.
Now lets say you have a lair of two of each type of dragon.
Aberration, Gaoler, Guardian, Mirror, Nocturne have a preference for meat.
Aether, Bogsneaks, Pearlcatcher, Skydancer, Snaper have a preference for plant
Auraboa, Undertide, have a preference for seafood
Banescale, Imperial, Obelisk, Sandsurge, Spiral, Veilspun have a preference for insects (seems pretty balanced)
Coatl, Ridgeback only eat seafood
Dusthide, Fae only eat insects
Tundra only eat plants
Wildclaws only eat meat
6 dragons want meat; 6 dragons want plants; 4 dragons want seafood, 7 want insects. You would need between 12-36 meat and plant points a day, 8-24 seafood points; 14-42 insect points a day. Fighting 100 monsters in the coli a day would more cover that.
Let's be serious for a moment, not everyone has only 2 of each type of dragon in their lair (will be referred to as a 'balanced lair'). Most of you will have a preference for a type of dragon. (Mine is Pearlcatchers and Faes). If your preference is not a plant eater and prefers meat, you're in trouble in only farming in the Mire; unless you get a a few annoying frogs to fight.
Most of you also have more than 46 dragons in your balanced lair. Lets say you have 4 of each type of dragon (well, 4.34) that would be 100 (well, 92) dragons. That would double the time you need to spend in the Mire every day. And again, you probably don't have a balanced lair. Which means your time in the Mire every day could be shorter or longer; most likely longer though.
The point I'm trying to make here is that the dragon feeding system needs to be overhauled or gathering needs to be made useful or the Mire needs to be balanced where you have an equal chance to get all food types.
the frustrating part about it is that those items keep being used for other site features so as long as new items aren't added you end up with not a whole lot of food you can safely convert without having to check for everything if it's not worth more on the ah
it's already impossible to feed dragons by just gathering and this just makes it a bit more frustrating to do so
The gathering system seriously needs a complete overhaul, honestly.
Word vomit ahead
I spent a year gathering every single day but not feeding my dragons at all. The plan was to create a surplus so that I could use the gathering turns for other stuff instead. Every few months, also dropped an additional 100kt each food group for stacks of 99x5xpt items when I had the funds. Was also grinding the coli periodically when didn't have burnout. All food items went straight to food points, nothing was sold, traded or hoarded.
Accidentally fed my dragons 3 months early and it completely drained all food points except plants. 9 months of constant food gathering gone in one feeding. Honestly kinda killed it for me, haven't really played since except to host nests.
It really should be that the larger the lair the more items that can be gathered with a higher minimum as well, like you can't send out 100+ dragons and bring back three ants. That shouldn't even be an option.
Another user had an amazing idea I'm super into that ties in really well with the lore that a lot of people have already adopted into their gameplay: Be able to set dedicated dragons as gatherers with the ability to level them in their assigned skill.
Gathering is a waste of time and energy. I'm lucky to have a lair set up where I don't have to worry about feeding 100+ dragons everyday. one stack of food can last me two days. I also love being brain dead in the colli. I lvl several dragons to 10 every week. I am still struggeling with everything BUT plants.
ALSO ALSO ALSO! The food drop rate in any colli section isn't the greatest! You have a 70% chance to get a food drops! And that's me being generous. The percents I've gathered so far are average between 60%-75%.
