Hey gang this week's #fjmbtsthursday is a bit of a throwback, but it's a personal fave from my GL cover run. Also going back to keeping the images text free. Let me know which format you all prefer. Let's go! 2. Layouts. I usually give my editors at least four cover ideas, but my mind was pretty set on one of them, so I only did two. This was done in Photoshop. 3. I was new to working completely digital at the time, so I didn’t have “pencil” brushes yet. Using the standard round brush, I adjusted its opacity as needed. 4. I went with a pastel brush in PS to give this piece a rougher and more natural edge. 5. Beneath the line work I laid down some color flats. To be honest I kinda like this as is, but I pressed on so my editors didn’t think I was being lazy. 6. I added a bit more colors for separation and proceeded to add shadows. I filled a layer with purple and set it to multiply. Using a masking layer, I used the same pastel brush to paint in the shadows. 7. I created a new layer set to color dodge. I filled it with orange to create this yellow glow. I created the highlights by setting a layer to color screen and once again used the masking layer technique. 8. Using a digital water color brush I painted in the spacey background, along with a splatter brush for the stars. 9. I used a combination of layers set to color dodge, and some layers with an outer glow effect to create the light streaks. 10. I finished it off by adding more splatters to give the image a more dynamic feel. https://www.instagram.com/p/BvAmvKhHOab/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=82membz4gzy1
