it was FRUSTRATING. the blonde clearly was struggling with the material and all she could do was accuse him of being ignorant. at least that’s what he assumed she was accusing him of. his face hardened, ceruleans trained on the textbook that seemed to have a whole other language printed on its pages.  ❝ whatever, ❞ he sneered, irritation thick on his words as broad shoulders slouched forward, discouragement ebbing in his expression as he shuffled his long legs uncomfortably under the short table. he didn’t BLAME her attitude, he was honestly surprised the stout brunette hadn’t snapped him until now, but it was still annoying she had done so. bailey didn’t like be SCOLDED or talked down to.  ❝ right, ❞ he scoffed, not believing her. how could someone as tight-ass as herself have an actual life ?? her grades were above average. you can’t be well-liked, have perfect grades, and a LIFE; that isn’t how the world balanced things out. was he jealous ?? no. it just bugged him that she thought she knew everything when there was so much her smart-ass had left to learn;  ❝ just being able to fill in a scantron doesn’t make you a well-rounded person. having a personality and an interest in things other than textbooks is important too, princess. ❞ the boy lifted his pen to his mouth, chewing on the end for a moment, keeping his eyes down before he finally lifted his gaze to her, a light brow raising;  ❝  what are you interested in other than TEXTBOOKS, rory ?? ❞ and he was seriously curious.

the brunette seemed to have hit a nerve as she watched bailey’s face harden, but she was beyond fed up with being so disrespected when all she was trying to do was help that she didn’t feel the slightest bit of guilt or remorse. “i do! just because i get good grades doesn’t mean that’s all there is to me. ya know, it actually is possible to have fun in life and do well in school. there’s no optimatum, you don’t have to pick one or the other.” at his words, she nodded. “no, i agree with you. filing in a scantron doesn’t make you a well-rounded person, but learning how the world works and what shaped us does,” rory retorted, choosing to ignore the pet name that made her skin crawl. passing the notes that she had finished sketching out in his direction, she was about to start reexplaining everything but his words broke the silence that had fallen around them before she got the chance. glancing at him with her eyebrow raised, she could tell by the look on his face that he seemed actually curious about what she was interested in and wasn’t trying to make another crude, unwanted comment. “i like to paint,” the petite girl murmured. “i like reading fiction books, not textbooks. i like hanging out with my friends and i like volunteering at the human society to walk the dogs and play with the cats that haven’t been adopted yet. i like listening to music and i like binge watching netflix like every other basic girl out there.”

she knew that following morning was going to be SOMEWHAT awkward… in fact, birdie had fully expected it. she spent all night practicing what she was going to say, making sure nothing that came out of her mouth was out-of-the-ordinary. she even spent a good two hours planning out an outfit ( a-typical plaid skirt with a bulky cream sweater and levi’s sherpa-lined denim jacket. specific and UNORIGINAL. )  yet, no amount of preparation could have set her up for how class with mr. gibson was actually going to go.. she was shifting in her seat, pen pressed against her lower lip, eyes focused SOLELY on her notes which were riddled with clean, color-coded markings and highlights. she tried to avoid his gaze at ALL COSTS, but everytime she’d flicker her eyes upwards and they’d meet their counterparts; she wasn’t able to resist smiling, cushioning her porcelain teeth in her plush lower lip. soon, it all became a game to her, and she’d purposely make even the slightest of movements to try and catch his attention. twirling her hair, laughing at jokes that usually only earned him an eyeroll, crossing and uncrossing her legs. at the end of the lecture, when all the other students had filed out, birdie purposely took her time packing up… only to pause when she felt the prescence of her professor looming over her. ❝ wonderful lectuer today, SIR- as always. you never fail to capture my attention, ❞ she complimented, remaining as collected and PROFESSIONAL as possible. ❝ i quite liked your commentary and analyzation of chapter six, particularly. . . i’ve always admired your ability to read between the lines. ❞

matching with one of your students on tinder was something that aiden never imagined himself doing, but when he saw the doe eyed look of the brunette that sat in the front row of his class flash across his screen, there wasn’t any time to actually think about it before he found himself swiping right. to his surprise, the it’s a match screen appeared only moments later and he couldn’t help the ego that was swelling inside his chest at the thought of her finding him attractive. it was one thing to match with his student, but it was another to message them. and yet aiden had found himself doing just that. the two had spent the rest of the night messaging and while he imagined things would be awkward, their conversation had flown very easily and he found himself enjoying getting to know her outside of the essays she had turned in and the comments she had made in class. however, the next morning shortly came and while aiden didn’t expect anything to be different after how smoothly their conversation had been the night before, the dark haired professor found himself unable to keep his gaze off of birdie. every time their eyes locked, his grin would only widen and he had to remind himself to act more natural. for the remainder of the lecture he found himself trying to avoid birdie as to keep himself in check. but as the hour came to an end and the class began to file out, she took her sweet time packing up. the last student made their way through his door and aiden double checked that no one else was in the room before walking over to the girl. gaze flickered over her body before landing on those innocent looking eyes as she turned to face him. his heart rate quickened as she complimented him and he found himself a bit dumbfounded momentarily. “well, i’m glad at least someone enjoyed the lecture today. it seems that most your fellow classmates would have much rather slept or browse through their social media.”

Braden smiled at her and nodded. “I’m alright. Can’t complain.” he said with a shrug as he put his hands in his pockets. This was going to be harder than he thought. Seeing her this close, he wasn’t sure if he would be able to work up the courage to ask her out. 

“Has it been busy today?” he asked before mentally slapping himself. Just ask her! He had seen her pretty often, and he never saw a sign of any boyfriend. Why was this so hard?

“good to hear,” the red head responded, her attention hyper-focused on the milk she was currently steaming. turning around to grab a few needed ingredients, she then turned back to him and began to mix everything together. 

“feeling a pastry today?” emilia questioned as she nodded in the direction of the pastry case. “we just put out a batch of vanilla scones,” she added, the words coming out in a singsongy tone. at his question, the girl just shrugged. “not too bad. just our usual morning rush which you luckily missed.”
