As much as she wanted to be normal, Gabriella was born to stand out. From a young age, she was known as the geeky genius girl at her school. Popularity wasn’t something she ever cared about which was good since she never exactly fit into that mold. In fact, she was more of a wallflower and enjoyed getting by quietly but that all changed when one winter break she met Troy Bolton. Little did she know singing karaoke with him that New Year's Eve would change everything when the very next semester she walked into the same school after moving for her mother’s job. Money had never come easy to them, especially after her father left but Gabriella’s mom worked hard to always provide for her daughter. She took summer jobs to help out when she could though what the most to her mom was watching her succeed in school. It was expected that Gabriella was going to have a bright future and she worked hard to make sure that she would get a scholarship to lighten the load on her mother. Of course, this new town they’d moved to was also home to the boy she’d sung with that night but he wasn’t exactly what she’d thought. That didn’t mean that over time things changed and they both ended up in the school musical together which only brought them closer. He became the first boy she ever loved which in turn helped her discover her love of singing as well. They were an unlikely pair but always seemed to make it work. That was until graduation when they both had to take a different path.
After getting a scholarship to Stanford she knew she had to take it, this being what she’d been working for her entire life. The downside was that Troy would be going his own way and she’d be lying if she said she hadn’t missed him. That didn’t stop her from doing what she did best, graduating at the top of her class and a job offer from Barbie Cosmetics. Gabriella was happy to move back to the isle but she can’t help to wonder if there was a certain Wildcat there still. As much as she knows she should’ve moved on, she hasn’t. School consumed her entire life which made it easier to get through the breakup and now that she doesn’t have that to throw herself into she’s realized just how deep her feelings ran. Now she’s determined to dive into her work, make a good impression, and continue to work up in the company. If only she could get a familiar song out of her head.
