I found it. [His reaction brought a bright smile to light up her face, her finger gently following the triggers curve before she brought the guns handle side closer to her for inspection] Is it real?
Found it? I wish the staff were that careless around me. [he moved around her like a snake, leaning over her shoulder to reach out and feel the gun, accidentally yet purposefully brushing their hands together] Mmm. It appears so. And what are we to do with such a gift?
“Oh, you know, just… A person. This gun would have come in handy a few months ago.” Evelina snarled, shoving the man back into the wall, continuing to press the gun against his forehead. “Now tell me where you put it!”
Mhmm. And what kind of person gives an angry woman a gun? [he chuckled, a squeal of excitement uncurling from his throat when his head hit the wall] I would certainly tell you if I had the faintest idea what you were talking about. Or maybe I wouldn’t. Depends.
It’s not real, it’s a toy gun, see?
[upon further inspection, Frederick let out a chuckle, and stepped away from the muzzle] So it is. Why didn't you say so?
Nope. That’s me, Mr. Party Pooper. [He stood up, brushing his hands off onto his jeans and looked to the man. At his words, the demon rolled his eyes with a laugh] You’re a nutcase, you know that right?
Oh, I can see that. [the response uncurled more laughter from him, ending with a satisfied grin in James’ direction] And you’re demonic. I’m unsure which is worse.
“Just found it lying around.” Jason sneered.
Just lying around? The staff of this place has no regard-- [he grasped the gun, winding his fingers around it] --for anyone’s-- [he pulled it down so it was resting against his chin instead; therefore, he could look the boy right in the face, grinning like a maniac] --safety.
"I did."
How irresponsible of you. Someone could get [his face split into a Grinch like grin, eyebrows rising] --seriously hurt.
Wooooah. Who let you have that?
[James rolled his eyes.] Not a chance. Even as much ‘fun’ as it sounds. [He stood up] I thought you were dead, you haven’t been around much.
Oh, come on. You’re not fun. [leaning against the wall, he studied the demon, one side of his mouth remaining tilted upwards] Oh, you know. I’ve been around. This whole “no sharp objects” is killing me. [he let out a laugh or three] No pun intended.
“What the fuck does it look like I’m doing? I’m busy.”
I can see that. [rocking back on his heels, Frederick examined the demon, folding his arms across his chest and chewing thoughtfully on his lip] Looks rather difficult. Need a hand? [he smirked] I’m sure I can grab one from one of the patients. It’s not like they need both.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. There’s a whole world out there waiting for you. Great cities and art and music. Genuine beauty. And you can have all of it. You can have a thousand more birthdays. All you have to do is ask.
"A ther…apis…t?” The word, like many of the others she was learning, felt like salt on her tongue. She made a sour face, unsure if she liked the sound of it, but she would give it another try before casting it out of her vocabulary permanently. “Th…erapist…” She repeated, but it didn’t sound any more natural than it had the first time. “That’s even more strange than pudding. I don’t like them at all. I want the therapist to stay away.” She said, popping the P as if mocking the staff member. At his offer, her lips spread into a wide smile and she was quick to nod in agreement. “Which one is it?” She asked as her blue hues danced over the each door left to right, then right to left.
[as she sounded out the word, Frederick found himself more and more intrigued as to what brought her here in the first place. What kind of girl her age didn't know what pudding, or a therapist was? Half expecting her to pronounce it the-rapist, he chuckled softly, and placed a hand around her shoulders, gently guiding her down the hallway] It's this way. No therapist dare come looking for you there. [his fingers danced on her shoulderblade as he guided her] Tell me, what is your name?
"I can’t go back… going back gets us in trouble." She mumbled these words to herself as her nails gently dragged across her bottom lip. This was a rule she’d been taught to stick to which made getting herself out of this area more difficult. She wasn’t used thinking for herself and she certainly didn’t trust herself to make the right decision, so when she heard a voice address her she willing gave up all of her attention. Penny’s gaze wandered to the man whom she immediately recognized and a smile began to form on her lips. "I don’t know my way." She admitted, nodding. Internally contemplating running right up to him. Being close to people brought her comfort, although more often than not it did just the opposite for them. "And I don’t want to go back… I can’t go back. That head shrinker is probably looking for me.” Then an idea sparked and with a naive fearlessness she went to him. “Can you hide me?”
[she spoke under her breath while she paced, an actual that dug as a reminder as to where he was, and what situation he was in. When he spoke, however, her ears perked up like a deer and she turned toward him, admitting that she was lost -- and also that she couldn't "go back". By that, he hadn't the slightest idea what she meant. Perhaps it was some reference to previous ailments or frightening situations. He couldn't really imagine another situation where one had to decide which bedroom was theirs; but then again, what did he know of bedrooms?] Head shrinker? What a funny little name for a therapist. [she approached him, cautiously, and he straightened his stature, regarding her with a malicious smirk that was old a little off from a smile] Certainly. I suppose, since you can't find your own bedroom, we can always hide in mine.
Everything on this side of the asylum had been silent for once until Penny came running out of her therapists office, dodging the bodies in her path and swerving around corners until she came to a corridor — the bedrooms. Being unsure of which room was hers or if this was even where her room was located, the lost girl began to pace back and forth, each passing second putting her more on edge.
[Frederick had been returning to his room after a rather unsatisfying day of watching patients and being unable to shove a knife into them when he found her. The girl from before. The girl that looked strangely innocent, who had no idea what pudding was, and was now pacing back and forth in front of some rooms. Slipping his hands into his trouser pockets, he watched her go back and forth for a moment, like a wolf watching his prey, until he finally spoke up] Lost, dear girl?
That’s a funny thing to call it. [Looking down into her dessert cup, her brows creased, studying the texture carefully as she suspected it may have something to do with it, but being as unsure as she was, she simply fed herself another spoonful and decided to forget about it. This was undeniably the best thing she’d ever tasted in her entire life, so she wasn’t exactly surprised to hear that he wanted some through his question. She gave a shrug and held the pudding cup out to him with the spoon included] Sure, you can have as much as you’d like — just please don’t finish it all.
I always thought so too. [his off-handed comment was made as a joke, but in her particular case, her comment was serious. Confused, he tilted his head slightly to the side as he found a spoon on the counter and dipped it in, licking it clean] Never had pudding before? [he took another bite, studying her, drinking her in. There was something vulnerable and innocent about her that sparked Frederick's attention] Scout's honor. You are?
Mmm… whatever this is, I can’t stop eating it.
I believe it's called pudding. [thought momentarily puzzled as to why she wouldn't recognize pudding -- it wasn't as if it were incredibly complex -- he took a predatory step forward and licked his lips, like a wolf] Do you mind some sharing?
No [Kira said shaking her head] Nothings the matter
You sure? [he cocked his head to the side and studied her reserved expression] I know exactly what would make you feel better. Whenever I'm upset, a good murder always cheers me up.
Then I’d be delighted t’listen to ‘em. I’m no idiot though, I know secrets don’t usually come for free. Are you lookin’ for some kinda deal?
[intrigued, Frederick leaned forward, studying her expression] Hmm. Yes. Perhaps I am.
