it's actually so fascinating and messed up how your ability to recognise images as being from a certain period in time is influenced by the limitations of the technology that captured them, and how you can easily manipulate that by simply using said technology, or replicating visual elements that were more common then but less so now.
people say this photo of tom cardy and brian david gilbert looks like a pair of IT guys from the '90s. and it's not only the choice of clothes, but the flash going off (still common in professional photography but rarer in the casual, everyday pictures people share these days as digital cameras improve and have other ways of brightening the image), the red-eye as a result (again, due to people not using the flash as much, but also because of automatic red-eye correction meaning they're not posted that way as much), and the high amount of noise. because that's what you think a photo from the '90s Should look like.
Lately I find myself doing the LLM overuse of em-dashes while still using hyphens, the way any non-copy-edited human would, just because I can. One thing I slightly predict for the near-future is that the stereotype for AI-written text, as the technology continues to grow more supple, will expand to include pretty much everything that is both smart-sounding and perfectly grammatical. I am *not* willing to give up on sounding (ahem) smart, but there are ways you can tweak your writing to be technically imperfect but also both more human and sometimes even better at conveying tone. The readers I care about will pick up on this at some level
