I’M MOVING!!!

Tbh i’ve kept thinking about doing this step for quite some time and now it’s happening!! I’m officially moving Rudolf to a main blog! What does this mean, apart from the obvious? Not much actually! I wanna continue what I’ve started bc I love my threads so if i’ve recently replied to a thread of ours you can just write your next reply and perhaps tag me, so I see it :) I might also move some drafts with me, but don’t hesitate to let me know if you want me to keep a certain one. 

Apart from that I just hope to see y’all over @ FREIGEIIST :)

For a moment the young crown prince stayed silent, staring at the floor, before his gaze met Ludwig’s again. Opening his heart as his friend ask him to was not an easy task, not after so many years of being told that he needed to exude nothing but strength under all circumstances. And yet … yet the King of Bavaria had earned his trust. Yes, their opinions differed, but there seemed to be a connection, a mutual understanding. Rudolf felt like he could tell the other one even his most harboured thoughts. 

“I often feel alone”, he began hesitantly, “Not literally of course, there always people surrounding me. But … the the Hofburg is filled with bigoted vultures. New ideas have no place in these walls.Sometimes … sometimes it feels like they’re slowly smothering me. Everyone expects me to follow my father’s path one day, but I cannot. Not when I see how wrong it is.” A deep breath of relief escaped him as he finished.

He breathed out, trying to calm his nerves, as he sat down on the lounge. “It’s not like that, Mary, truly. But I’ll deal with it myself. You don’t have to bother yourself with another problem.” In these last years they had become partners, both determinded to create the best life for their son, despite the difficult circumstances. “But thank you.” Her support was something he could always count on and he did appreciate that, perhaps more than he’d admit.

Do you ever suddenly get super sad thinking about Rudolf as a grandpa spending time with his grandchildren & also him seeing Erzsi growing up and supporting her on her difficult path?? Bc I do :’(

She did not know if this was a good or negative reaction. She feared for Rudolf. Mary’s hand twitched to reach out to him but she remained frozen in place.

Did he despise her? He had spoken to her so many times about how things needed to end. Mary had been ready to join him, as well. United in love until death. That had been her promise to him.

“Do you hate me?” It was a thought she could hardly bear. Her eyes burned with tears as she awaited his answer. Her stomach felt as if it would fall out of her body and she would disappear into nothingness.

“No!” The answer came hastily and vigorously. He honestly didn’t and Mary’s sadness only increased his own despair. It wasn’t just her fault after all. 

Rudolf had expected obstacles, that something could cause their plans to sway. But certainly not this of all possible scenarios. Yet now they had to face the new circumstances. They would live, for this child ( and for his daughter, the only valid reason why he’d lived with doubts all along ).

Silent tears began streaming down his face, no matter how hard he tried to stop them. All these opposing emotions now turned outwards. “Please, Mary, just ... give me some time to think about this, to ... figure this out.” What he needed now was loneliness, the chance to deal with his thoughts without any witnesses.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE!!

My Rudolf WASN’T in love with Mary Vetsera. My Rudolf didn’t commit suicide because he couldn’t be with her. My Rudolf died because he saw no way out in any aspect of his life. His marriage was a mess, he was attacked by nationalists and their newspapers for his ideals and his relations to jews and he knew he would most likely never ascend the throne of the sinking empire. And above these and more things he was depressed and ill. SO I won’t aknowledge this part of “The Crown Prince”, the Mayerling Musical or any other portrayal for that matter. My Rudolf was  trapped in a hopeless situation without escape and therefore made the decision to end his life.

    she frowns down at her hands. when she looks at him again, her face is not softer.   “ all i want is to see my sister happy, rudolf. whether that is as kronprinzessin of austria or as YOUR WIFE… olga’s happiness is what matters most to me. ” she takes a deep breath. “ you can not hurt her. you can never betray her. if you are uncertain that this is a future you both want… ” she hesitates, leaving her words to hang in the air. tatiana is cautious, and protective, but not cruel. “ if you are sure, then you have my entire heart’s support. as your sister, as well as hers. ”

He felt more than uncomfortable under her questing gaze, and yet he had enough experience not to show that openly. Experience gained most especially in these last days, as Tatiana wasn’t the first member of the royal family he talked to about that topic. “Well, I certainly didn’t think that I’d change my mind about marriage either”, Rudolf replied, a slight smile still visibly on his face.

Soon joy and amusement were replaced by a more serious expression, almost ceremonial. “Trust me, Tatiana, our desires are quite alike. I only wish to see Olga happy and I’ll do what I can to ensure that. I am sure.” Of course she worried about her sister’s future, he understood that notion and perhaps she too had heared certain rumours concerning his past. But he could only repeat what he he had already told her father: The truth.

All this time Rudolf had hoped that he could help somehow, that she’d give him a sign. Now here was the chance he had waited for. The guilt about what had happened, about the horror he hadn’t been able to keep from the Romanov family, still sat deep and the young emperor felt a certain responsiblity for Olga . And for her he was ready to even overcome his natural reluctance when it came to grieving people. 

“Of course. If you wish that.” So Rudolf returned to the bed and sat down cllose to the Grand Duchess.
