racing to make drinks through the small area behind the counter, wyatt noticed the frappuccino he made five minutes ago still sitting on the counter. “who’s fucking vanilla bean is this?” wyatt questioned toward his coworkers, but mainly to himself. he swiftly shifted the drink sideways to read the name drawn out in sharpie, “hey, jessica, you think we’re making drinks for free?” wyatt yelled to the audience of the cafe, almost immediately a thin blonde looked back with a scowl on her face and went to retrieve her coffee. “fuck,” rolling his eyes, wyatt paced himself back towards the register. he had known what workload to expect on a monday morning, but this was the largest crowd wyatt had served. there were only two other barista’s working, and the exhaustion of last week’s hours had finally caught up to wyatt. as he waited for his costumer to decide, wyatt aimlessly glanced at the clock wondering how far his break was, “hey, did you come to stare at the menu all day or are you going to order something?”
genevieve had just gotten off the phone with her boss, the mayor of the town, about a discussion for a town dinner held for all the associates. the brunette had been up all night planning this event that coffee would be the only element to keep her on her toes. frankly, she did not need the attitude from the poorly dressed boy. “iced white chocolate mocha with a double shot. thanks very much. someone is cranky this morning.”
spencer focused on his cell phone as he reviewed the list of alcohol he was to buy with his fake i.d. he had become the plug for most of the kids on campus. spencer had three hundred dollars and a hand full of bottles to pick up. when spencer heard a soft woman’s voice, he pulled his sunglasses to sit on top of his hair and matched the voice with cheerful smile. “i’m sure your savior fucked me up enough when he stuck me with two meth-head parents – but if you show off your cleavage a little more, i’m sure more people would actually be interested in listening to you.”
“sorry, sir, but i do not need sex to explain the word of god.”
Maya narrowed her face, listening to the girl quietly. “What if I want to be a sinner? What would Jesus say?”
“just know it’s never too late. do you have anything to confess?”
It was a regular Saturday for Laura. She ran for 10 miles in order to clear her mind. Now it was time to grocery shopping, she was on her way with a green juice on her hand. A brunette reached her with a smile. She listened her with a skeptical look on her face. Even though she wasn’t into religion stuff, she wasn’t gonna be rude to her. She was kinda curious about what she would say. “Our sins? Hmm.. I am listening.”
she was all sweaty; christabelle took a step back. “well, um, in the old testament, god's chosen people were required to perform blood sacrifices, generally on lambs and other animals. then, the mosaic covenant required them to eat the flesh of the animal for the forgiveness of sins. when jesus came along, he put himself on the cross. a sacrifice himself.”
aaron zoomed past the automatic doors at the exit, anxious that the cashier was onto him. he had taken shrooms not even an hour ago and his stomach already felt empty. aaron made his way down to the nearest grocery story for ding dongs and twinkies, but when the word salvation was said to him, he accidentally heard starvation and was all ears. “yes! yes, oh my god, feed me with your knowledge, home girl.”
oh, she was so pleased with his enthusiasm, startled even. usually she didn’t get this type of reaction unless it was from members of her church or own family. “he believed that christ's sacrificial death was necessary in order to liberate humanity from sin and restore communion with the father, that the blood of jesus was payment to god for human sin.”
“wow, i didn’t know people still did this,” leon was on his way to pick up groceries after getting this week’s paycheck, but he didn’t mind spending some time on uplifting christian humor. “tell me, what has christ done for my sins?” he smiled, taking a brochure.
christabelle covered her nose with her hands, wincing at the scent coming from the boy. “you smell like cannabis.”
“is that lady over there dead or just really old?” wyatt nodded towards the woman’s grandmother.
“she happens to thrive just well for a woman over the age of seventy, thank you very much. do you usually wear jeans so tight you can see the outline bulge of your cell phone in your pocket? i’m sure i can dial 911 from here.”
chris was only interested in going to the supermarket, grabbing a bag of doritos and a liter of mountain dew, and going back home to continue his resident evil marathon. he rode in swiftly on his penny board and when the woman with the brochures stopped him, he couldn’t help but get a little feisty, “is speaking to somebody about a man turning water into wine tax deductible? because if it’s not i’m pretty sure i have somewhere to be.”
“no, sir, but it does give you a greater chance of getting into the pearly white gates in the sky above.” christabelle turned back to look for her grandmother’s approval which she received with a proud grin and a wink. her nanay was the most important woman in her life and she was glad to hold her hand. “he died to liberate humanity from sin. have you had premarital sex? if so, once your pray for forgiveness, god will not question your entrance to heaven.”
