No we weren’t toxic… I… Actually needed a hero… And you were… Busy.” Emily looked away, fighting back tears. “Your career was supposed to… Be as it is… We were to remarry… But the Mantle destroyed all of that. I’m not even the same person I was… I can’t look at my swords with pride anymore. All I see is… The faces of the people I couldn’t protect. Amelia walking around in a daze, having forgotten Damien and her children. The people they tortured to try and make Xiaolian bend to their will… My memories of the past being used to keep me in check… ” She looked down.

“Because of my stupidity each of us has a reminder of those months. Little bundles of joy we should have lost in all the stress…”

“I understand..” He sighs and looks away. “I think I just needed to let all of that out of me before I self destructed.. I’m sorry if any of it has caused you more pain.” He looks back at Destiny’s room with a nod. “You managed to move on so I suppose I needed to just say things that I held in…”

He managed a weak smile, “I really care about her, you know? She’s getting better and I think I am getting there too, especially now.” He leaned against against the doorway. “Things will get better eventually..” He chuckled at a thought. “She faints so much when she thinks we’re about to make love.. I adore her because of it. I think it means that she really cares about me? I enjoy my time with her in the desert, and honestly… She’s saved my ass a lot out there. She’s strong like you, but different.”

“There’s a big difference between that spoiled brat and I. I belong here.” She said quietly. She moved her suit case and pushed it past him. “… She… May accept she belongs here. Ashlan too… But Shiloh fights it with her every breath.”

“Emily.. Enjoy your honeymoon.” He looks away and allowed her to move past him before he went to Destiny’s room.
