       Loki snorted as he followed and walked out the door behind Nicolai, he hummed “ I’ve never been, which is nice… I’ve been to nearly every place that sells sweet treats, I’m a sweet tooth. Most tricksters are. ” he smiled.

“It appears we have more in common that we both have imagined.” he said with a smile before turning the corner. “It is surprising you haven’t been here. They allow unlimited toppings.”

He stepped towards her. Slowly. Ominously. In a steady pace where he never broke eye contact with the doe-eyed night nurse. She was tired but effortlessly attended to him.

         “ You never told me your story and I never asked Stephen about it, can you tell me? I have always been curious about you, I want to know what is behind the cold façade. ” Loki knew he was a demon and that he was of royal blood, but that was it, he wanted to ask Nicolai himself instead of questioning others. 

            He sipped the tea and leaned back on the chair, cross legged. “ I like the concept of making my own family, I think that’s what happens here. ”

Nicolai’s shoulders slumped, his demeanor much less soft & warm as it had been before. Before he had thoughts of family and future, whatever he could build in this ancient sanctum with Stephen and Loki and Casey. He thought back of stormy nights and blood painted across his lips, the yelling voice of Father, the coldness he had to master in his stare.

“...It will be obvious that I cannot tell it all to you now. My story lasts centuries upon centuries.” he smiled very faintly as he looked at Loki. “Much like yours.”

“I was born the second son of three potential heirs, all from different mothers. There were more, but Father saw us three as the three pillars of his kingdom.” he sighed.

“Eventually, he was killed in an uprising that I started. My older brother was already excommunicated - my younger brother had no intentions of the throne. So I took it. And I reigned for many years.” he said rather sadly. “With an iron fist is not a strong enough expression.”

He took a moment to pause in his story and sipped his tea.

He stared at her with judgmental eyes. Honestly, reckless of Strange to take other practitioners of magic - the Ancient One - here to this ward. Magic has cosmic residue, those who don’t mask its remains can be easily traced. And that led Nicolai straight here.

“Are you Doctor Palmer?” He asked calmly. There was obvious danger to his voice.

      “Really?” She was a little surprised at the offer. “That would be nice, I’d really like that.” Casey nodded her head, giving Nico a soft smile. He had changed a lot since first arriving at the Sanctum, he was far more gentle. She could see through his tough act at times, like when the kittens swarmed him for his affection.

He nodded. “Stephen has been rather concerned of our own relationship.” he said in a low tone. “I realize I have not always been the kindest or most welcoming to you.” he said simply and straightened his tie before turning to look at her. When he first arrived, he commanded respect, yelled orders and made remarks but ultimately, he was only a dog with bark and no bite.
